I'd want a Blastoise for a buddy. He seems like the most practical. He's hygienic, he has a shell so he can stay outside, and he can ward off intruders. He can wash your car for you.

Realistically, most people wouldn't have more than like 3 or 4, especially past the age of ~20, unless you became a professional trainer, which doesn't seems to be very common.
