I only respect Pokemon Blue/Red and everything 1st gen. This isn't "just nostalgia". I've learned that it's much more.Sure, there might be better Pokemon games out there. But you have to understand that these later installments are basically just mods or expansions of Blue/Red. Imagine what it took to make the very first Pokemon games. Someone had to come up with the concept of Pokemon in the first place, draw 151 monsters, and invent numerous game mechanics that we take for granted these days. Shit like gym battles, master balls, repels etc. have been in every game.What I'm trying to say is that making Pokemon games got a lot easier after the first game because they just copy the established lore, slap a new story and some ugly new mons on it.I was there in 1999 when Pokemon fever hit Finland. It was amazing.

This kind of argument can be made for any IP that gets more than one installment. It doesn't automatically make the first entry the best one or the only one worthy of respect. You're underrating the value of refining and improving upon those initial concepts, like gens 3, 4 and 5 did, which is not always as easy as it looks on paper.
