As much as Sword and Shield lacks depth, lacks exploration, as much connection with your Pokemon as some other titles, difficulty (I don't personally care about this one), and the dexit and move cutting stuff (don't really care about this one either), it has something no other Pokemon game has to this degree and it's aura.

The music, character designs, animations, general themes and feeling of the game and mechanics all come together to create this wonderful intense vibe during Pokemon battles. People don't like dynamax usually but I love it. It gets reduced to just "you make the Pokemon big" but well, first of all it's literally just mega evolutions except everyone can do it (e.g., gigantamax exists). More importantly though, the Pokemon being "just big" is why I love it so much. The feeling of power it creates combined with the music, just how intimidating it feels, how intense and epic it makes the battles feel -- I've never played another Pokemon game (I've played all of them multiple times except B2W2 and SM and USUM) that makes me feel this way. I think that's something wonderful about Pokemon games, they all have such a unique vibe generally and give off unique feelings despite being the same at the core. Personally this one just does it for me, and I know it does for a lot of others as well. I could list more wonderful things about these games, I could make fun of people cherry picking and zooming in 500x on trees to make fun of textures, I could make fun of so many things, but I just wanted to make this post because I know a lot of others on this board feel similarly and I would like these games to be remembered for what they did exceptionally well, at the very least sooner rather than later.

Pic related is my favorite fight in the whole series. Why? Not the Pokemon, but everything leading up to it and surrounding it. The battle the difficulty the Pokemon itself are almost irrelevant in the face of the context, the music, the environment, and the feeling. The moment when Rose looks down at his Pokeball for just a moment before sending it out -- realizing what he must do despite it all -- it gives me chills, and there are multiple moments in the game like that for me and I don't really get that in any other game.

That's why I love them so much. I just wish Rose's motivations and the plot around the darkest day and everything wasn't apparently partially gutted.

That's a lot of words to say "the gym battle theme and Chairman Rose's theme slap"

And Bede, and the legendary fights, and dynamax, and the Pokemon and character and area designs. Really the music in the entire game slaps.

Sounds like you were right.

It’s literally not

sword and shield are shit games whose sole virtue is that they aren't scarlet and violet

The "look down at pokeball" is dumb and just generic Anime bait, they've been doing that since like season 1?
I actually wonder if a kid would think it's supposed to be sentimental or not. Because in this context, he doesn't express any regrets to you until after the battle, just excitedly announced he brought forth the darkest day, and his dialogue uses a ton of exclamation points as he talks about stopping you, but then in battle he is completely stiff and hesitant.

I don’t have as much of an issue with SwSh’s story as others but this scene completely fell flat for me. I found his interruption at the finals and his “undercover” meeting in Hulbury more entertaining unironically.

Because his plan isn't to defeat the player. Its literally to just stall you to give Leon more time to defeat and catch Eternatus so that Rose gets all the glory for his Champion saving the world single-handedly.

Rose thinks his plan succeeded after you defeat him which is why he's not angry for losing against you in battle.

I thought aura meant presence, intimidating vibes etc.
But the way zoomers use it recently it just seems like it means
>Pretend you won anyways
>>
>>59450232
I thought he was just bummed out because he knew his reputation was already fucked at that point.
>>
>>59450323
I mean he's pretty smug and patronising in his concession.

This is last dialogue, I read it as he was counting on Leon succeeding and proving method to his madness. But when Rose realised he screwed the Poochyena he hands himself to the police offscreen to avoid the embarrassment.

>Most impressive, <player>!"
"I wouldn't expect any less from a challenger endorsed by the strongest Champion ever to grace our beloved Galar region!"
"I really do wish I could have seen the Championship Match between you two. And I'm terribly sorry to have ruined the whole Gym Challenge and everything!"
"It's too bad, but it can't be helped... In order to solve the energy issue as soon as possible, we awakened Eternatus. But we couldn't control it. The Champion came to aid me, even at the cost of abandoning the match."
"Indeed, just like a knight in shining armor coming to rescue a princess from a dragon!"
"I do tend to ramble on, I know. I love to make speeches. But I think I can stop talking now."
"I think the Champion should have captured Eternatus by now. If you're curious, you can take the lift up."
"And I trust you'll be going too, right, Hop? I certainly hope losing to me didn't discourage you too much. Go on now, both of you! Go see how our Champion is doing!"

>>59449273
Unironically yes. SwSh is also still the best looking pokemon game.
>>
>>59451553
Yeah it is which is crazy. Upscaled USUM and swsh are my favorite of the 3d era

>>59449273
are you serious its probably the pokemon game with least aura cause leon and sonia babysit you

He just kicked Hop's ass before you. This actually makes him being sentimental even odder. Like damn, how many kids do I have to kick today?

Oleana does everything for him including putting together his Pokemon team an. He looks down at the ball she gave him to try figure out what to do with it then figures out he needs to throw it to start battling.

Dude go watch a movie if you want "vibes" or "aura". GAMEs should not put GAMEplay on the back burner for some shitty, somehow still overrated by some, models acting out a terrible play.

>absent-minded migrant tech CEO almost causes the end of the world over an energy crisis that won't happen for another 1000 years, completely detached from the common man and Pokemon battles even though he financially backs the league

>lacks exploration
>lacks connection with Pokemon
Nonsense. I had tons of fun exploring Wild Areas with my Pokemon. Especially Isle of Armor one which has a great map and your team members follow you around.

I must agree that the whole atmosphere around Gym Challenge is phenomenal. There are very few moments in the series as hype as battling on those huge stadiums for thousands of people. Two kaijus battling it out while crowd cheers in the music. Amazing stuff.

The most important thing about video games is how they make you feel in the end. This one made you write this post so take it as you will. I personally love these games despite their flaws and easily put them above 80% of Pokemon games. And I played like 50 of them counting spin-offs.

>>59449274
My personal favourite moment is when you defeat Hop in Challenge Cup and the camera goes behind his back and you can see him visibly shaking from frustration. Just as we go back to his front, we see him smile sadly accepting his inferiority.
