First , Red haven't chosen anybody. Second, Red didn't even knew Yellow was a girl. Third, based on Pokespe pattern, Red is set to end up with Green.> But Blue Green and Blue barely even interacted at all. IIRC its release window was funky in some regions, so it was something you had to read or read up on online. I can't actually speak for the latter from memory as I read it in bulk more recently, but the former is pretty immutable.But as for the actual comic, Kusaka (the series day one-present writer) can be- and earlier on HAD to be- a diabolical extrapolater. He has some kind of mandate to fit in every major character, story beat, and mechanic into each arc, but the implementation seems pretty up to him. It is a story you think you know until it isn't, and you can't predict where Kusaka while zag instead of zig because you don't know what elements he wants to play around with. A favorite example of mine off-hand is when the normally flat encounter with Magma/Aqua at the museum becomes Ruby's life-and-death battle with a new Magma Admin on the submarine. Or a smaller example, the ways the Johto arc uses the radio throughout. And more fundamentally, going back to the "better than Ash" argument, it gets to have more proper and creative battles, and just fly off the rails when it wants to. The kids are cute and if we got a small anthology series just about their episodic hi-jinks I would read it. Biggest fault is probably that arcs enjoy being episodic for the first half or so, then realize they aren't going to get to their destination on time and speed up. I recall only R/S REALLY suffering for it.
