Of course weapons would realistically be in the Pokemon world, but it removes all stakes or reason for the Pokemon trainer to be involved in importnt events (if you're writing them). My Hero Acadmia uses guns but they're not the focus for that reason. People want to see the heroes with their quirks fighting battles with stakes. Sure a few quirk users could function in a society where everyone has guns, but it's not a main focus of the series for a reason: it removes the point of having a superhero universe.All this to say, if you feel so strongly about it, make a Pokemon training story with guns. Nothing is stopping you.

Is there any pokemon fanfic that's set earlier in recent history. I mean like 1960s maybe, pokeballs haven't come out but will soon, trainers still use whips like in the original gen 1 sprites, your "pokedex" is a 100+ page ring binder, there's no pokecenter instant healing machines. In games you always meet these old trainers that look like grandpas and it makes me wonder what an oldschool pokemon trainer would be like within the pokemon world.
