Hugh from Pokemon BW2 is one of the best rivals in the series. He has that aggressive, competitive edge to his character, always battling you explicitly because he wants to see how strong you've become. Not a pushover friend like modern rivals, not a jackass like Blue or Silver either. I also liked his whole obsession with beating Team Plasma members to get his sister's Purrloin back.Hugh is also chad as fuck because at one point he straight up doesn't even want the pretense of Pokemon battles with Team Plasma, he flat out decks one. Hugh is the best "friend" type of rival Pokemon's ever had. At some points he's behind you, at some points he's ahead of you. He doesn't pull his punches with you, but also enjoys seeing you grow stronger, and his trust in you is unwavering. During the breach of the Plasma Frigate at one point, he straight up tells you to back him up, and there are multiple instances of you and Hugh entering double battles against Team Plasma together.And the final battle against him is perfect. Hugh shows up at the end of Victory Road, his arc with Team Plasma having already been complete. But he didn't just go home, he finished challenging the Gyms and now he wants to see the culmination of your own journey. A small detail that also makes him a chad is his sheer love and trust for his own team. When you attack his starter in the first rival battle, he says "I'll never forget the pain you put my partner through."TL;DR: I'm tired of the Hugh slander. He's the best rival in the entire series.

I think he's one of the better rivals. I enjoyed the teaming up aspect and his personality felt a little less one-note since he wasn't super friendly or jerkish most of the time like several other rivals.
