Since alchemists only needed specific fossilized bones, that explains why no complete fossils have survived to the present day and why Cara Lis only found incomplete skeletons. (This actually happened in real life; many fossils were ground into powder to make dragon soup.)They could even create a Dracolich from the remaining fossils, instead of living chimeras.
