I've been using Quick Guard MSceptile with Roar Jolteon, two very fast pokemon that you would want to set up TR against and neither having the initial output to KO. Max speed + speed nature Jolteon is 200. It's also base 130 speed, tied second for the fastest non-mega available.

MSceptile at neutral nature max speed is 197, or you can +speed nature with 16 EVs in speed to hit 199. Unless the opponent has tailwind there isn't much that can out speed that duo, so they are going to get hit with a Discharge and then a +1 MSceptile.

Now that I think about it I barely see Alolan Ninetales anymore. I guess it doesn't help that snow just isn't very good. I was looking at the other snow warning Pokémon and they don't get used much. It at most sometimes cucks rain who doesn't have a mega rain setter. The bonus of 110 power blizzard never missing isn't as useful as 90 heat wave + 50% damage. I've never been afraid of Mega Froslass because so many things shut it down like a fire type or dark type. It doesn't offensively boost the main type or passively benefit other types by weakening a type. You can't build a "snow team" because it would just be all ice types and maybe Slowking. I think sand has a similar problem with how passive it is and how you end up just stacking a bunch of Pokémon with the same weaknesses. The only well thought out weathers/terrains are sun and rain.

It has bad types that don't benefit from the ability. Water, dark and fighting have great contact moves. Ghost doesn't and ghost only barely got a not shit physical move. Excadrill and a lot of Pokémon with contact abilities have the same problem. Ground types want earthquake but it's a waste to use it. Mega Excadrill has something like sub 10% usage which is completely pathetic. Barbaracle and Aerodactyl don't benefit from rock moves because there barely are any with contact and head smash doesn't get distributed to them. I get limiting Aerodactyl from moves but the rest could use a boost.

I see Mega Excadrill as more of an extension of the mold breaker set. But piercing drill still isn't useful. The horn drill thing is so niche you basically have to call a protect. Maybe I could pair it with something with encore but then no one will ever use protect and just try to kill Excadrill. It just doesn't have a moveset that can justify the ability. Iron head and high horsepower don't cut it. And they don't want to give it more moves like close combat because people would just use those without the mega.

Yeah, I don't think I'm having fun. This shit isn't good at all. It's like Chess except there's a 40% chance every turn some guy will jump onto the board and cancel your move. It was in a trick room game on my hard TR team. I set up TR properly with a fake out support and turn one took zero damage on either Mon. I was full advantage in speed. He was just stalling trick rooms by trying to double protect in specific moments and off bulky pivot switch ins.

i slightly tweaked how the zero-sum game works in the type-only analysis i did earlier. instead of only having STAB moves available, a population member can randomly have neutral or even super effective non-STAB moves available. some heuristics are used to ensure things like a pure ice using fire is almost impossible, and also to ensure things like having a neutral move against normal type is more common than having a neutral move against steel for example (but it's just heuristic, it does not use actual game data, this is purely an analysis of which type is best regardless of the actual pokemon/game). anyway, here are the results now with some included info about what the rankings actually mean:
