This reflects real life as well.But in this case deer populations exploded because people were focused on killing off all the predatory animals as much as possible without thinking of the ecological consequences.It's almost as if bears and wolves exist(ed) for a reason... Like, they would rather avoid talking about what is to have some of these fucking things in your life and instead they default to "wow, my Litwick is so strong!" which makes most interactions have a weird kind of tonal whiplash.
