Why didnt she get any of the "ZOMFG 100 DAMAGE!!1!" fame the 'Zard did?
>>
I have literally never seen a single person before you mention anything about how an old TCG card actually plays. The answer to your question is because charizard is popular while nobody cares about zapdos.

He has low hp not def RETARD
>>
>>59498238
def isnt a thing in the tcg so "HP" should account for overall constitution. cloyster being the worst pokemon at taking a hit fundamentally goes against the its essence

welcome to base set where they had no idea how to scale anything so basics had 120hp while stage 2s had 60hp
meanwhile stage 2s had worse attacks than basics at worse cost

Because Discard ALL energy cards

Why did they make so many cards with huge energy costs if they also made Energy Removal? Did they genuinely not forsee that being so powerful?

>>
>>59498233
I think they made a lot of the cards blatantly useless to balance out the type ratios, so that water/normal users don't get such a disproportionate amount of viable choices
>>
>>59499268
Okay, but it didn't happen until years after pokemania
>>
Love my water type deck in TCG The Video Game on the game boy
>>
>>59499620
Funny I'm reading this a couple minutes after I turned off that game. Kino game as kid since no way in hell I had money to get all the cards I wanted and now kino game as an adult since I no longer have friends to play
>>
>>59499647
Singleplayer non-roguelike card games are such a rarity. Inscryption captured that feeling a bit (doubly so as its second part is so clearly inspired by the game) but other than that, you've got Thronebreaker and that's basically it
Why some indie hasn't done something with the idea yet is beyond me
>>
>>59498259
I only very recently learned that the Magnemite line doesn't learn Selfdestruct at all. I've had that misconception for almost 30 years entirely due to the TCG.
>>
>>59498207

Such a bizarre take on hyper beam. If anything it should discard your own energy for really high damage, not unlike OP's zapdos
>>
>Pros
No scalping
No investorchuds
Charizards everywhere
Promo Mews everywhere

>Cons
Haymaker decks everywhere until 1999-2000 cards were declared obsolete for tournament play; if you didn't play some kind of variation of Haymaker deck you're fucked in the playground, at school, at your friend's house, at your local game shop, during tournaments
>>
>>59501369
>if you didn't play some kind of variation of Haymaker deck you're fucked in the playground, at school, at your friend's house
Not true. Most kids were by no means even aware of the competitive bullshit and optimal strategies
>>
>>59498207
This. No one actually plays the TCG they just see big numbers and dragon. Zard is king
>>
>>59498207
There are a ton of fun deck options for the early pokemon tcg. Print out some proxy decks and run them with friends for a good time. Just be sure to gentleman's agreement away licktung stall and haymaker to expand the pool of playable decks. Maybe clefable and mewtwo decks as well. Really lower the power level of the format, the jankier your decks are the more fun they'll be to play.

only chansey and because it has high ass HP in the games too

I agree onix with 90 HP is a farce though
>>
>>59498198
because Charizard got more exposure than Zapdos, that's it.
Back in the day, Zapdos was seeing some play thanks to Electrode, meanwhile Charizard was nowhere to be seen, he already was the collectionist's crown jewel, not to mention that the meta was revolving around big basic pokemon and evolutions were simply not viable. And Charizard's fame doesn't relate to its playability anyways.

the idea was to use Mewtwo's Barrier attack constantly while you use trainer cards to remove energies/disrupt your opponent until they deck out. Wasn't very good.
>>
>>59498198
>discard two energy
or
>discard ALL energy
Gee I wonder
>>
>>59502012
I guarantee you if the effects were reversed the popularity wouldn't have shifted whatsoever
>>
>>59502012
Charizard can also eat any kind of energy while you have to find 4 Lightning energy for Zapdos

Why run Zapdos when you can run 4 Electabuzz?
>>
>>59502156
There's literally zero reason to run Charizard. Hell even Charmeleon is a fundamentally better pokemon
>>
I'm surprised they came out with the Classic Collection like a year or two ago and they didn't reprint cards from the WOTC era down to the last detail, would have killed scalpers and investors hunting down on vintage cards as well.

Should have reprinted everything from Base Set up to like Neo Destiny including Southern Islands and the Black Star promos plus all of the theme decks from the era along with the Base Set starter set.

Charge $1500 for the 1st Edition Pokemon Center version and $1200 for the normal one.

There is if you're a stupid little kid who thinks attack power = how good it is
