It's odd considering that there were femenine looking pokemon that were locked to that gender before such as Jinx. Wonder why they made male gardes even possible.

>>59500685Garde's a combination of many factors, principally based off female ballet dancers with elements of anesama ningyō, which a cursory GIS reveals to be seemingly chiefly of Japanese women in traditional garb among other minor elements (elves, masquerade masks). The knight element chiefly appears to be a pun on a noble lady calling さあ、ナイト saa, naito ("Come here, Knight"). That they then went and furthered the "Garde = Female" by giving it a ballgown/wedding dress evo, complete with elbow lenght gloves to further set the image should have told you they saw it more as gooner material than a knight. Especially when adding the correct gendered "knightly" form in Gen 4.
