Moon Knight EditionPrevious Thread: >>59494288FAQ: https://pastebin.com/MypNBzca
I hopefully have cards coming today. Just want a delivery with the correct cards, had a nightmare with the last few orders (1 was my own fault).
Some cool card I found on ebay. Does anyone know where it's from?
>>59502796Too busy to do a deep search, but here's a headstart.https://db-dokfanbattle.fandom.com/wiki/Project_Voltage_Rock_Hatsune_Miku_(Rock)
>>59502328Unlikely. Am I kicking myself for not finishing Gym Heroes and WotC black stars? Yes. But thankfully, I have almost a complete duplicate set of holos from most other sets, so I'm hoping for trades to finish.
>>59502796I just did an image search. Said what that other anon said. Project voltage, a collab between pokemon and crypton future media. A big list of collab cards, and songs.https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pok%C3%A9mon_feat._Hatsune_Miku_Project_VOLTAGE_18_Types/SongsPics of cards and song stuff. You have picrel, from Sept 23 2023.Now I'm interested, ffs, only started a couple of months ago going for 1 mon, now I'm evolving. Love it.
Oh look there's a meowth galarian in the hatsune collection. The other Brit anon (I suspect he's a proper fan of pokemon, I just like cool stuff, anything cool). And this is a cool looking card (most are in that collection, desu).Oh no, more to add to the collection, oh woe is me.*looks at his cards and tells them they'll be another girl joining the collection*
Forgot cool meowth collab image.Sorry.
This looks super cool, tempted but not in the mood to pay a hundred today
>>59502892>a hundred for misaligned shit
do you guys order from buyee, mercari?how does that work , with shipping and taxes?
>>59502900No sane person cares about centering. Has nothing to do with a card’s condition.
>>59502624 #>tell us again, objectively, why indo cards are not superior to kr, cn, thai, and even to some en/jp cards.Because they’re Indonesian lol
>>59502625>Cope, all languages are official pokemon products, your English shit is as authentic as Indo ngukalang mbalang or German Glurak heil Hitler. Not saying Indonesian cards are literally inauthentic. I’m saying they feel like a shabby compromise relative to the only two languages anyone actually cares about (English and Japanese). It’s fine to buy these cards if you’re Indonesian, but if you’re some American buying cards in Esperanto or something to save a few bucks, you are genuinely mentally unwell.
>>59503178>anyone actually cares about>just means Americanswhy are they like this
>>59503157It has to do with card aesthetics which is the #1 most important thing. I'd rather have chipped corners than a completely off centered card.
>>59503222You think the chinese and japanese give a single fuck about indo cards?
Japan make the cards/IP while, whether you like it or not, America moves the market. Indonesia has never and will never do anything so no one cares about Indonesian cards, hence why why they're dirt cheap. What little value there is in them is purely on the Pokemon brand alone.
>>59503222I’m not even American myself. Nevertheless, it’s obvious English and Japanese cards command the overwhelming majority of collector interest (and market value if you’re into that sort of thing) across the globe. No other languages come close to the desirability of English and Japanese, and that’s why Indonesian, Yiddish, AAVE, Esperanto, etc. cards are regularly discounted 70% relative to the only two languages anyone actually cares about. (And this is somewhat incidental, but English is also the official language for sanctioned Western tournaments). But once again, if you are Indonesian (or German, French, etc.), it makes perfect sense for you to collect in your native language. I’m exclusively making fun of people buying cheap, foreign-language cards only as a means to save money.
>>59503246>i’d rather have a damaged cardMentally unwell. But you’re probably a modern collector where condition doesn’t really enter into things and 99% of cards in circulation are pack-fresh and mint. For vintage, I’m always going for a perfectly preserved card.
>>59503281NTA but as someone from a non-English market, this topic is really a bit more complicated.I'm German for example and the vast majority here only collects German and sometimes a little English or Japanese on the side.So you guys aren't wrong in most markets that officially sell English cards but someone in a different region will have a very different point of view on these things. For example until Prismatic Evolutions started the current wave of stupidness, German cards were more expensive here than English but that changed now for most sets with English being considered the global "investment" language. (Keep in mind English isn't even officially sold here)But I could see it flipping again if there's another scalping/investing crash.
>>59503294larping zoomer. Real vintage collectors have 0 issues with time worn cards.
>>59501414>>59501424>>59501572>>59502611Bros I said 10 years ago. 2016. Cards were like $10-50 max on release. Vintage was more expensive for the chases sure but 10 years ago the chase of the set didn't come out at $800+.
>>59503004As an UEfag, from Japan you will get raped by customs without exceptions.
why are indogs trying so hard
>>59503416Seamonkey behavior knows no bounds
>>59503178Again with the [in your opinion] they feel like a compromise to the only two languages [your opinion again] cares about.Let's set aside Indonesia for a moment. Americans being 300 million and the internet/reddit/youtube being mostly americanized gives the impression that other countries care about chasing English or Japanese for the perceived internet hype value. In Europe most countries with a TPCi language collect in their own language rather than English. They don't care about your headcanon of "only two languages".And for the last sentence it's not just a few bucks, at least it wasn't up to last year. I have done the opposite in some cases, i.e. buy English because Japanese was too expensive (see the XY promos and the radiant collection for example, some were 10x the price in Japanese). Now it's all blurred because investards got to the Esperanto languages as well, so you see the Indonesian Mewtwo being 1/3 of English, while last year it would have been 1/20.
>>59503416Imagine being a turd worlder no one cares aboutSuddenly a big corpo like Pokemon caters to you by making the next main game inspired by your country (technically only one part, the only civilized part) and starts printing cards in your local language
>>59503436>In Europe most countries with a TPCi language collect in their own language rather than English. It's actually kind of ridiculous what the current hype is doing to European markets because my fucking German grocery store now sells imported Chinese, Korean and Japanese Pokemon cards in addition to German.
>>59503484I also see a lot of JP/CN/KR boxes in Italy, I guess it's because they are the easiest asian languages to import compared to IN/TH, and they aren't as hot as English so LCS can overcharge 5x on those boxes more easily when Italian cards are sold out.
>>59502796Weird, I think that might be a fanmade card otherwise I definitely would have seen something like that before.Because it didn't come with the CD as an extra goody, and the preorder bonuses for the CD were either acrylic stands or clear files, and these are the actual official cards for Project Voltage. What did you search to find that? Mind sharing the page or seller?I'm surprised how many of you never heard of Project Voltage.
Hey guys bought 100+ packs of the same shit sets over the last oh 1-2 months, kind of a long time haha, for my birthday haha. I'm rewarding myself haha. Luckily I got access to these and not the scalpers. I'm not a gambling addict btw...
>>59503581Well there are also the photo cards but that's obviously not the design of what you got and also way better quality.
>>59503609HAHAHAHAHAHAHASO FUNNYHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
>>59503609people unironically think like this as they buy at scalper prices to fulfill their gambling addiction. and it's all new collectors. embarrassing
>>59503609Are single packs, double/triple packs and random tins better than ETBs and booster boxes?
>>59503622Also, been collecting since shrouded fable, time to say goodbye to this hobby...
>>59503649I just saw that.
>>59503436>In Europe most countries with a TPCi language collect in their own language rather than English. They don’t care about “only two languages”I’ve said exactly this multiple times, including in the comment you just replied to, you fucking mongoloid. I’m taking issue exclusively with people who buy foreign language cards as a means of saving a few bucks, which is deeply shameful. But of course if you’re a German, you’d probably want a Glurak, and there’s no shame in that.
>>59503649>since shrouded fableLMFAOOO holy fuck
>>59503324Wrong bitch. I’ve almost certainly been collecting longer than you, and I have quite vivid memories of being repulsed by my friends beaten and scratched up cards. I recall in the 90s trading some worthless Dragon Ball card (I think it was Launch) for my friend’s Venusaur, and while I was happy to have it, even as a small child, I knew it was subpar because the holofoil was showing through scratches on the card’s face. Pic related: I only bought this beat-up Nidoking because it was mistakenly priced as a Shadowless copy. Otherwise I’d never have considered it.
>>59503682>repulsed by my friends beaten and scratched up cardsNot him but you're actually soulless. How dare they love and use cards for their intended purpose.
>>59503682NIDOKIIIING! WHAT THE FUCK ARE THOOOOOSE!?!?
>>59503778What are what?
>>59503759The feeling of looking at unblemished WotC holofoil in the sun’s brilliant light is without parallel. I’m sorry, but scuffed and beaten cards simply do not lift the spirit in the same way, and it’s you who is soulless if you can’t recognize this. Of course it’s different if you own a bunch of busted up cards from your youth. But by no means am I going to enjoy someone else’s damaged cards more than a pristine copy of those same cards.
>>59503798soulless
>>59503682>Wrong bitch. I’ve almost certainly been collecting longer than youSure you have...Did you also get your E3 Pikachu from your Nintendo Power subscription in 1999?
>>59503656I'm not the German anon, and you obviously skipped the part of my post where I said that it's not "a few bucks" of difference, since Japanese has become almost as expensive as English, because it's pumped by the same retards who pump English. If the price difference is really a few bucks I go with Japanese, all my AR are in Japanese, but I'm talking about high end cards where the difference can be as high as hundreds of bucks compared to Chinese and Indo.In that case, if you prefer to pay a big premium just to have the card in a different language which is not even tour mother language, and your justification is "because everyone says it's the better language", then it's a (You) problem, not mine. And if course I exclude English also for the shit texture, I wish I had my whole collection in JP.
>>59503810Cope>>59503882No, I think I bought my E3 pikachu from TrollandToad in like 2015 or something. As a kid, I mostly had set cards and the more common promos that came with CDs or games or movie screenings. I must have dragged my poor mom and dad to three showings of Mewtwo Strikes Back to get all the stamped promos.
>>59503963How much for all of the Black Star promos?
>>59503946I’m not saying you’re the German, I was speaking broadly, as in, “if you’re German, French, Indon*sian, it makes perfect sense to buy German, French, and Indon*sian cards (respectively).”>if you prefer to pay a premium to have the card in a different language which is not even your mother tongueWell I’m a native English speaker who also happens to understand Japanese, so it’s the best of all worlds for me.>exclude English for the shit textureImagine buying m*dern in the current year.>I wish I had my whole collection in JPThen just do it, anon. It sounds like you understand perfectly well that you’re settling for inferior cards. It doesn’t have to be this way. The premium is in fact worth it. >>59503978Back in the day, like $150 (excluding the two uber-rare trainer promos). Not sure about now.
>>59503998>Back in the day, like $150Oy veyDats anudda 6 Charizards
>>59503998No, the premium is not always worth it when it's too high and the only difference is the language. Again, most of my collection is already in JP, and out of 200+ cards I have maybe 10 cards in chinese and only 2 in Indonesian, in these cases the difference in prices were massive. If I bought those few cards in Japanese I would have spent more than a thousand extra $ and there's no way you'll ever convince me that it's worth it just because JP is the more mainstream language.I prefer JP just as the og language, but I don't consider other languages as inferior, as long as they have the better print quality. I even prefer some cards in Chinese because they cover less artwork. Your definition of inferior is not the same as mine.>Imagine buying modernOh, you are one of those people. I also have vintage wotc in Italian, as well as JP vending and carddass, sue me because I also like modern art rares.
>>59503798>st*r holo instead of cosmo
>>59504050Like what you like, I’m just being turbo autistic. But that said, you must never settle for inferior languages. >>59504057Where am I going to find a cosmos 1st edition Nidoking? Also only the OG starlight (and maybe the Unseen Forces “reverse” foil, if I recall) are genuinely “holographic,” with optical depth and parallax.
If y'all were real collectors, you'd buy the few Polish language sets printed just before Poland got invaded and destroyed by the Nazis
>>59504118I prefer the ones that came after that had the swastika holofoil pattern. Sometimes I even scrape off the card to reveal more hidden swastikas underneath the printing.
>>59504220lol
>still buying physical
I like the shine on Korean cards
Newly acquired
>>59504342>I like the shitty glossy cardstock and films on Korean cardsftfy
Korean will always be better than Indonesia lil jit
>>59504476There's no gloss on this one though?
>>59504501compare the black parts of the card (V symbol, V rule, retreat, etc) with another in EN or JP, you'll see what I mean
>>59504342>That giant fingerprint texture
>still grading cards
Guess that anon died.
No cards today, ebay scammer didn't reply either, but less than £10 spent, and I will get it back. If I don't get the cards by monday evening, I'll leave a SCAMMER ALERT review. Bastard.>>59504800I'm thankful he posted, I didn't know about that collab, and it has some cool cards on. Going to try and remember to look at the songs as well.
>>59504844I like this one.https://youtu.be/Imcr7rsBxsc?si=GdcgRpCKA-y7SAxW
Going to a card show, how likely am I to be able to pass off XY era cards that I bought for HP price as MP? I'm sure I can convince one of the hundreds of vendors that they are MP.
>>59504893You'll get next to nothing. Vendors don't want MP cards.
>>59504940>Vendors don't want MP cards.you have no idea what you're talking about. I'm talking about highly popular cards. I sold my damaged Radiant Collection Gardevoirs at 80% to the first vendor I asked.
>still buying modern
For anyone that's been collecting these cards for over 6 years (or even since three years ago), how do you justify buying singles?Vintage common cards that were $3 are now $40. Reverse holos from the ex era that were $50 are now over $400.What used to get you 10 nice (not chase) cards now affords you just one.
>>59503759Looking at friends fucked up cards was an actually repulsive experience. We had sleeves back then and Beckett magazine clearly showed to anyone that gave a shit that these cards had value in them. It wasnt a lot but $10 for a holo Scyther back then was insane money for a kid and you'd want to preserve that in a least a sleeve. Kids that didnt actually care about Pokemon and were just in it because it was popular them rattle around in a shoebox.
>>59504982>how do you justify buying singles?buying sealed product is even worse
>>59504982>how do you justify buying singles? It's easy. They are most likely going to keep going up, so in that case you are getting a bargain.
>>59504982I dont regret buying what i like so i dont have to justify it.
>>59504982I don't. I get msrp product and that's it usually, unless the single is so cheap even as a SIR because no one wants it (ie recent 3 sets that isn't the chase SIR)
I don't like going off auctions but paying the same price for a 4 point difference is way too absurd for me. Glad I didn't buy the PSA 3.
Anybody think dumb shit like Palworld or Winds/Waves potentially being mediocre could affect the prices of cards or do you think they're too big to fail now?
>>59505411SV crashed the market so never say never but I believe it's unlikely.
>>59505411problem right now is fucking ascended is causing scalper insanity cause people want the expensive pikachu, gengar, and dragonite.blame investors. hopefully 30th gets printed a shitload so people can get stuff.
When I was a kid I was throwing tantrums over not getting a $20 toy. Kids these days are throwing tantrums over fucking $1k cards. https://litter.catbox.moe/26d22gah3p2ullpm.mp4
>>59505526idk why people get so hung up on values, you can get amazing illustrations for 10 bucks even. it doesnt HAVE to be a $2000 card.
>>59505526All he did was put his hand on the case? How is it ruined?
>>59504989I know what you mean. I take care of what I have so my shit is in decent enough condition. Then I see a few of my friends' stuff. Doesn't matter if they're cards, physical games, books, etc.. It's encrusted in mystery grime, bent or banged up, and looks like it was run over by a truck. Some people simply don't have the knack for preserving things.
>>59505543value is the whole point
>>59505526Inflation is crazy these days
>>59505572I think this is better than the tree pikachu, but it wont cost $1000+ for example.
>>59505519That or just shoot scalpers and investors
Thoughts on sellers adding extra cards as gift?Should I say thank you or what?Did you ever get valuable/cool extra cards for free with your orders?
>>59505587>but it wont cost $1000+ for example>haven't seen the en prices of paldea evolved meme karpAnon...
>>59505777every 30th pack has a random pikachu of the 30, so it wont be hard to get like an SIR. but, we'll see.

I pulled this when I was a child and the packs were still in stores. I remember, at the time, no one really caring much about having a pokemon that belonged to someone else (i.e. "Erika's" or "Sabrina's"). But now, I really like how it adds some colour to the pokemon world, especially when the pokemon are something you wouldn't normally consider that particular trainer owning, but when you think about it a little longer it actually fits thematically (Erika's Dragonair). Anyways, I really like the cards that Giovanni and the Rocket team have.
>>59507863>no one really caring much about having a pokemon that belonged to someone else (i.e. "Erika's" or "Sabrina's").That's actually why I stopped buying cards back then. Obviously in retrospect it would have been nice to have kept going especially into gen 2, but whatever.
>>59507917>>59507863I also thought the “So-and-so’s Pidgey” was an extremely lame gimmick at the time — and still do to some degree. But the rocket cards in particular seem pretty cool. The idea of some rocket goon capturing a Moltres is pretty cool.Though the gym sets also rely on stock Sugimori illustrations way too much. I never really had a desire to complete them, even as a vintage autist.
>>59507863>>59507917>>59508015I remember back when you could buy Wizards booster boxes for 100-200. Opened a box of Gym Challenge, but never managed to find a Gym Heroes box. As a vintage autist, what a fucking pain it is to seek out the Gym cards.
>>59507863>no one really caring much about having a pokemon that belonged to someone else (i.e. "Erika's" or "Sabrina's"Yeah, I remember that. Rocket was cool but using other trainers Pokemon didnt make sense to me. Didnt help that base sets rotated out. I stopped caring and switched to Yugioh, which came off as cooler.>when the pokemon are something you wouldn't normally consider that particular trainer owning, but when you think about it a little longer it actually fits thematically (Erika's Dragonair).I always thought that was neat. It makes sense, you dont stop at only catching a single type of Pokemon so why would they? Sure, your character is supposed to be a genius prodigy in the games but the gym leaders are supposed to be too, so of course they would go out and catch other Pokemon when not on the clock.
>>59508066The gym sets used to be dirt cheap, even when everything else was dirt cheap. They were even dirtier and cheaper. Now I guess they’ve got a bit of a renaissance going on? Quite astounded to see the average Gym Heroes holo being considerably more expensive than their Jungle or Fossil counterparts. Gym challenge even moreso. What gives? No one wanted these a decade ago (or even during the COVID boom, really).

I wish i never learned what graders look for when they are evaluating a card because I got a single recently that I bought online and noticed on the back of the card it's off-center by alot, and this really bothers me, but since i'm going to put it in my binder it won't matter, just the fact i'll always know that card is off-center at the back now (and probably the reason the guy sold that one online aswell) will stay with me lol
>>59508015>Though the gym sets also rely on stock Sugimori illustrations way too much. What's wrong with that? Sugimori's art is iconic for the series and most of them were tastefully done. I'm glad his art made it in card form.

i dont get this fad... is it some money laundering scheme?
>>59509043yes boomer its money laundering
>>59509051ok yeah that much is obvious at the top level but then why are like random poor people suddenly "collectors" all of a sudden, buying, sellign and trading all these cards? is it just like hustling or something? i literally cannot wrap my head around any of this because i've never had a job

>>59508955Don’t get me wrong, I like Sugimori, but his art is all over the franchise. It just feels a bit cheap to repurpose an existing illustration for a card rather than commission a brand new piece of art. I just don’t find the Sugimori cards all that exciting (though I think a rare few were in fact made specifically for the TCG — shining Charizard for instance?)
>>595094900% chance this shit is worth a gorillion dollars. No one is going to want it. It’ll be like the gold cards from the SWSH series that are technically rare but sell for like two bucks nonetheless

pickups from today.
Haven't posted in a bit, went to card shop in city yesterday. As i was flicking through the cheap singles boxes, a 40 year old girlboss business woman type chick comes in and announces she wants to buy some etb's, either chandelier head eevee or some other gay modern shit. The newly inducted femployee (the store's run exclusively by young asians) starts hyping this old lady up like>yaaaaasss love that for you, you go girl! Treat yrslf!!!Old lady says wowww pokémon cards are so nostalgic. She wants to buy two boxes, one to open and one to (((appreciate in value))). Says she'll go no higher than $345 AUD per. Walks out having spent $700 on modern cardboard. Chinese staff nonchalant, back to trawling ebay and eating KFC. I'll post the few cards I bought later
>>59510164Holy 10s
>>59505068How do you find MSRP product? Everywhere I look is overpriced.
>>59510269camp out at a store on release date
>>59509922I've been seeing a bunch of cards listed at NM when they are clearly LP and sometimes lower.
Do art collectors say "I just spend a million dollars on oil on canvas?". This whole "its just cardboard bro" downplaying is getting annoying.
>>59510177>appreciate in valueI'll never understand you westerners.
>>59510323thats why youre poor.
>>59510315As an ex-gacha addict, my policy is>does this have practical value?and>does this serve a purpose? You can get mileage out of 3D models on a phone and the game will serve its purpose, whereas buying a box without opening it is undermines its value and serves no practical purpose.
>>59510329I buy a product to use it. If I don't use it I'd feel bad for taking away someone else's opportunity to do so.
>>59510339I get that about just sitting on boxes but, again, do art collectors say "I just spend a million dollars on oil on canvas?"
>>59510345No idea, haven't been there. The closest analogy I can make is buying a single card for ~500 of the local currency. Cards are essentially works of art, and since I genuinely have a purpose for it, it didn't feel wrong to me. With that said, unlike oil on canvas, I take my favorite cards with me on my hours of commuting to and from work, so I can enjoy them anytime unlike a canvas on a wall.
Just got back from the card show. I wasn't planning to buy this ugly as sin Garde but this swirl literally made me cream my pants so I had to get it.
>>59510389Would be worth thousands more if the swirl was just above her butt.
>>59510400It's worth nothing since It will never be sold. I was actively looking for this beautiful Gardevoir and the swirl is just the cherry on top.
>>59507863Based, I got codex to slave away and make an auction tracker and managed to spot a mint one 5x less than market value a while back. Still nowhere near as cheap as yours. There seem to be a lot of auctions that end in time zones unfriendly to burgers and Euros, making Asian hour auctions quite good for last-minute sniping

>>59509922>>59509931>>59510304A PSA7 is labelled as NM (Near Mint) on the slab itself. Have you ever bought and cracked and inspected a PSA7 card? It's about a 100% likelihood that you would consider that card LP or even MP if you saw it in the wild raw. But, under the rules of PSA that this whole fucking hobby abides by, a card that grades a psa7 is considered NM (so it can have significant whitening and scratches and be off center). LP would be a PSA 4-6, MP 2-3, HP and Damaged is PSA 1.
>went up $150 in a daySee you poorfags later.
Not sure If I got fucked on this trade or not but my cost basis on the JP Jirachi was $55. The PSA 4 had a swirl on it while the JP one didn't. JP one also had pretty bad scratches on closer inspection. Guy gave me $20 plus the PSA 4 for my non swirled JP copy. Also the PSA 4 is a pop 7.
>>59510437wow $150! You could take the day off the cash register if your boss gives you permission!

>>59510451The holo doesn't have any scratches as far as I can see. I would also take a beat up swirled copy over a non swirled semi better condition copy. I would give the JP Jirachi a PSA 6 or 7 at most. Also pop 7 turns me on...
>order departs post office on Aug 3 and is never seen againEpic!
Finally bought the superior Lisia's Appeal. Dawn is obviously the weakest SAR here but I can't think of another one that I can replace her with.
>>59510408Oh damn, anon. That's sick, very smart. How do you have it set up?>Still nowhere near as cheap as yours. Tbh, I don't even know what to put for my purchase prices of these cards. Do I put $5 for the Moltres since that is how much a pack was then? Or is it effectively $0 at this point?

I guess if you're really paranoid about condition but you arent going to buy a raw PSA 10 online because the seller would have already slabbed it. Whats the point of collecting cards if theres no place to show them off?
>>59511918Really depends on how they handle the art. There are a lot of examples of beautiful/cool Sugimori cards.
>>59512675I have a lot of high-value WotC cards, so I like being able to trade for cards I need. From a "showing off" perspective, I have a toploader binder specifically for this trade route I take, and vendors always seem impressed with it and most are shocked they're my duplicates

Someone said in an earlier thread that normies were becoming aware of the Vending series. Is that actually true? I dont really see much discussion about it aside from people that have been in this for a while.

I need help, I haven't bought Pokemon cards in ages (not since the e reader era) and found out a number of stores around me have old Pokemon booster packs from the x and y era onwards. The problem is that each of these establishments are a little sus and I don't know how to tell if they're legit or fakes. Does anyone have a complete resource on how to tell legit booster packs from fake ones? I would appreciate it. Note it's not explicitly x and y but the general eras from that point on and onwards. I'm probably going to have to ask this again because this thread is about to sage so don't be surprised if I ask this again. Thank you all
