>FAQ
>What is this?
People are turning into Pokemon in the real world. Some are having the time of their lives, and some are struggling to survive. These are their stories.
>How do I join?
Just start posting.
>What's the lore?
People and animals (and at least one tree) are changing at random in their sleep, waking up still in the real world, but now as Pokemon, and nobody knows why (that includes you. Please don't try to explain it). Just enough transformations are occurring to notably change day-to-day life without collapsing civilization. This is not the apocalypse, even if it might feel like it to some characters in the moment. Some people are more in touch with their instincts than others, and some have lost more of their humanity than others. That's about it. Avoid legendaries if possible.
>What the Hell is PIPS?
In many of the stories, the scientific community in-universe has begun referring to Pokemon instincts and the loss of humanity some people who transform experience as Pokémon Induced Psychosis Syndrome, or PIPS. The term is explained in more detail here: https://rentry.org/sip-concepts

If some people started rocking other people's shit with super strength and superhuman durability, shit would go even more sideways than with the Pokemon.

Go ahead, have a Pokémon themed doughnut. Sure people are randomly waking up as Pokemon, but that has to just be a coincidence. There’s no way eating a Pokemon doughnut would make you wake up as a Pokemon right? It’s just a doughnut with icing and a little sugar picture. It can’t do anything to you right?
>>
>>59516144
Those kinds of promos would probably suffer terribly in the /sip/ scenario. Most people are going to realize that the odds of turning into something with hands is much lower than anyone wants.

While not the first of their kind, and certainly not the last, the Human Futures organization made headlines after their company spokesman disappeared from his home. A muk wearing his tie was found in a relative's home by investigators, who confirmed his identity.

The irony of the situation was pointed out by many, and some have used it to fuel theories that turnees and their forms are being selected by fate, or some higher power. The Department of Health has found no evidence that this theory is true, but the Secretary of Health did acknowledge the humor of the situation.

Fake treatment camps remain in a legal gray area, and some states are penning legislature but no direct action has been taken against them at the moment.

Imagine Mad Men advertising executives working long days and weekends trying to figure out how the public responds to ads for everyday products with Pokemon
>Thank you for meeting with me. I understand your Krispy Kreme franchisees were excited for this promotion and are waiting for word on whether to proceed
>We have made the calculations and put them into action to determine the reaction from every major demographic
Men 18 to 30:
>Our core demographic for nostalgic purchasing and the desire for consumption related to their own childhood
College educated women over 40:
>Their education will mean they are unlikely to believe in the superstition that it would cause transformation, and their higher earning potential and means they have disposable income for donuts
Suicidal Poets:
>This demographic is likely fascinated with the transformation phenomenon and the perceived cash grab of the promotion. Despite their negative perspective, this will still increase awareness through their social media presence
Fat Midwestern Fathers:
>As core customers of your brand, this promotion has little to no risk of alienating them through perceived culture war connections
Kids with Diabetes
>The high sugar content of the promotional items will conflict with their medical needs, but this is an excellent opportunity for cross promotion and increasing conversion to higher margin Mini doughnut and Dots doughnut hole products
Pentecostal Preachers:
>Data suggests a surprising link between members of religious clergy and interfacing with transformees, likely as part of their religious obligation to welcome those in need. This added stress means they may be more likely to treat themselves with the Pokemon product.
>>
>>59516620
Mothers under 20:
>Likely to treat their young children with the branded product due to their hectic schedules caring for them despite any concerns over transformation
Interracial Couples:
>The difference in their background culture will likely mean they have differing opinions on favorite Pokemon and will purchase additional doughnuts to share this difference with others and think about hypothetical contrasting transformation their relationship could endure
>Atheist Professors:
Their highly analytical behavior with assumed superiority through knowledge and lack of faith means that they may actually purchase additional doughnuts to publicly virtue signal their disbelief in transformative effects
Government Employees:
>Providing incentives in the app and rewards program may increase sales for this demographic as they fill the “doughnuts for the office” run while their department works overtime on policy for accommodating Pokemon
Xenophobes and Racists
>Research on antisocial websites suggests some may actually increase their interest in Pokemon related foods in an attempt to become a superior species of Pokemon, thus increasing sales of the target product
Private Aviators:
>Despite the perceived high risk of transformation in flight, aviators for high end clients make up a large portion of customers at airport kiosks and will likely appreciate the participation in regular nationwide promotions

>As you can tell from the above report, everyone will see your new promotion and have positive interactions with your brand. Think about it this way: guided evolution of your imagery. This goes beyond traditional advertising truisms like “color makes us hungry” and “hunger makes us human”. Everything’s connected.

[Six months later, this advertising package would be leaked online to humorous derision by the general public. Despite this, sales did increase as a result of the tie-in.]

A get-together with friends is always nice, isn't it? From heated discussions about current events, to friendly banter, or even a good old heart-to-heart; it rarely gets boring with the right company!
But every high has it's lows. Some after-parties just weren't meant to be enjoyed.

I would absolutely follow the life and times of scamcario. Constantly getting into shenanigans as he's compelled to unwanted (and unprofitable!) heroism, never quite able to shake the feeling that he's doing the wrong thing when he scams, or that people are going to take advantage of him when he does good. Winds up getting into fierce debates with himself. It'd be epic and hilarious.

Pre-transformation Eti feels a curious mixture of fastidious and lackadaisical. Between Josh and now Hanna, we've been seeing some notably mentally stable transformee kids lately. I hope we get to see Bruno and Hanna in WBIA proper.

You know, I used to think that if /sip/ were a Terra Invicta campaign (because I think about things like that because clearly I'm not satisfied just being regular autistic - I had to go for advanced autistic), Eti would be a shoe-in for the Resistance. But after that dream? Perhaps he'd be more at home in Humanity first. :^)

>At least counter the inevitable headache, I thought to myself.
Bro's about to have a headache for an entirely different reason...

Ironically, Eti, if you can think you might be insane then it probably isn't the case.

I think this blind panic reflects a relatively more realistic initial response to being transformed. Now we know where all that self-hatred came from. Just an instant, visceral, "m-m-m-MONSTER!" reaction. I can just imagine the pointing, shaking hand, even though he didn't actually do that. Poor guy.

We're seeing once again how Eti's sense of self-worth (his sense of self period, arguably) is mostly extrinsic, to the point where he gets humiliated even when nobody else is around.
>>
>>59518700
It's an interesting way for Pokemon instincts to first manifest. Ripping the whips off is a perfectly natural thing for a a Mienshao to do, but Eti's attitude towards it could almost be read as an act of self-harm. Probably not the healthiest interaction with the instincts overall? And he does wind up maintaining an at best standoffish relationship with them afterwards...

>play detective
At least he seems to be on some level aware of what's going on with the Pokemon instincts. That self-awareness is valuable to have when interfacing with them.

>Another terrible thing
Ouch. You really feel how deeply poor Eti loathes all of this...

No reason you can't still help people, mate. I'll have my hat with fries if that desire didn't also influence his decision to join the Affligés...

While we've already had some decent insight into how much our Swiss mink hates and is disgusted (and feels violated?) by his new form, it's definitely at its starkest and most visceral here. You get the sense his cultural grounding might be the only reason he didn't completely lose his shit (what would it look like to go feral, but in act of violent rejection of the new form, rather than the normal way of going feral?). Between this and Prof, these "rewinds" to the moment of transformation for a character whose story didn't otherwsie start there are always a pleasure to read. Nicely done.
>>
>>59516913
Very nice. Hearing that Etienne wishes he could help his friend more was a great moment. The desire to be philanthropic felt new to his character, but helps reinforce a lot of what was previously just him being nice or a good leader.
Then the shoe drops…
I wonder how much of his agony was a result of being a bit hungover. Probably less than he’d like to know. I liked the mirror scene. Figuring out your new anatomy is always a fun part of these stories. The bit about heart rate was fun too.
Overall, a great look at the moment that made our unwitting mustelid the man we’ve come to know
>>
>>59518700
>are those low-key Churchanon and ProfD references
They're lyrics from a song that line up very conveniently.
>>
>>59518700
Nowadays, “Suicidal Poets” usually go by the term “doomer art hoe” on X, the everything website.

As >>59518760 said, they’re just the lyrics to the song. I don’t think Churchanon ever mentioned being Pentecostal, and I always imagined Professor Decidueye being ambiguously Christian for some reason I don’t know why.

If someone has a logo they need redesigning, I’m here to help you. Time is of the essence, after all, we live in the future. Alternatively, maybe we need a Spiral of Durants next?

That makes me think of a dumb question I've had. Is there consensus for how communication works between species? Do all Pokemon understand each other, whether they used to be human or animal? And can humans and Pokemon talk with each other, regardless of the Pokemon's original species? I'm sure it's been covered in stories, which is why I call it a dumb question. But I haven't lurked here much, so I don't know how it works.
>>
>>59520157
There's no hard rule, but the convention so far has been that anyone who turns and retains control of their faculties can still talk like they could before. The other direction of animals turning into Pokemon has so far avoided granting speech. Which makes me wonder how things would work with parrots or domesticated ravens that have some spoken vocabulary.
>>
>>59520157
In general, humans turned into Pokémon are still able to understand and speak with humans, and understand and speak with other people turned into Pokémon, but they can’t understand animals or animals turned into Pokemon. There are a few examples of exceptions, so if you feel like you can write a really compelling story, go for whatever works.

If this is building up to an Alolan Raichu bit, you've got my attention.

I need a consensus on something for a plot in one of my stories.
How does the law regard buying and selling pokemon?
In real life most states in the USA ban the possession of dangerous wildlife and the Captive Wildlife Safety Act prohibits interstate commerce of animals like tigers and mountain lions.
In the /sip/ world there might also be concerns of human trafficking in parts of the world as some horrible groups might capture any pokemon they see regardless of origin.
Obviously someone who had a cat that turned will be able to keep that cat as a pokemon but I wonder if pet stores would legally be allowed to sell any of their animals that turn.
>>
>>59523555
It depends if the advisors to the people making these decisions have friends profiting from human trafficking or not. If they do not have human trafficker pals, they will make it illegal to buy and sell Pokemon because there's a good chance it's human trafficking, even if they're completely lost to PIPS. If they do engage in human trafficking, they'll be wishy-washy and evasive and deny that it happens in any meaningful way. If the politician is aware or cottons onto how horrendous this is, they may bury the advisor themselves.
>>
>>59523662
>It depends if the advisors to the people making these decisions have friends profiting from human trafficking or not.
