Do people dislike any of the things that emerald changed from ruby/sapphire?

I know a lot of people dislike a lot of the platinum changes from diamond/pearl.

I've also seen the sentiment that the original games reflect masuda's original vision and some people care about that in and of itself, basically the idea that the third versions aren't even canon
>>
the magma hideout sucks. and only having one concert hall at the ass-end of the game is stupid.
>>
Steven > Wallace as champion. He's a cooler character, and the archeology theme of his team is more varied and interesting than just being yet another Hoenn water-type specialist. Emerald tried to make up for this with the Meteor Falls fight, but they botched it by giving him the rival battle music and making his team stupidly overleveled.

>Do people dislike any of the things that emerald changed from ruby/sapphire?
Other than Steven being cooler as a champion, I prefer the contests tents. There are enough battle facilities already. Hoenn didn't need more.
>I know a lot of people dislike a lot of the platinum changes from diamond/pearl.
Literally nobody on earth unironically thinks that. Anyone who says that is trolling.
>the third versions aren't even canon
Kek at anyone that cares about pokemon "canon".
>>
didn't love the cave of origin being permanently sealed off after dealing with the sootopolis crisis. but on the other hand, team aqua hideout stays open permanently so you can't lock yourself out of the master ball unlike in sapphire
>>
>>59528445
Pretty much solely the change in Champion, which actually means its complained about more than Plat which was just full on upgrade in all ways. Third versions are also probably the real canon version.
>>
Steven is a cooler Champion, baby Frontier tents over other tents are dumb but whatever, and having to hunt down Groudon and Kyogre is a bit annoying, that's about it.

Platinum is a straight upgrade over DP in every department except maybe Dawn's outfit.
>>
>>59528464
>Third versions are also probably the real canon version.
Cynthia explicitly refers to Platinum happening in BW so there's that at least.
>>
>>59528445
being gatekept from early meditite kind of pissed me off
>>
>>59528445
there are some arguments to be made that having to fight both teams kind of fucks up the pacing and makes the story a bit more generic. Wallace definitely isn't as iconic as Steven as champion either. not having contests throughout the game is kind of lame.

>I know a lot of people dislike a lot of the platinum changes from diamond/pearl.
I've never heard this. only criticism I can think of for Platinum is that it doesn't have the DP version exclusives, but that's minor considering how much it expanded the Pokedex outside of that.
as good as Emerald is I think Platinum improved on the base games way more than Emerald did. besides the Battle Frontier, Emerald is more of a sidegrade, and if you don't plan to play the BF then you can play pretty much any of the 3 versions, and I do know people who prefer to play R/S because of the story or other reasons. whereas Platinum is just a straight upgrade to Diamond/Pearl and I don't think I've met anyone who would go back to D/P over Platinum.
>>
>>59528499
>having to fight both teams kind of fucks up the pacing and makes the story a bit more generic.
Not really, actually. The game heavily favors Team Magma as antagonists, and you tend to buddy up with Team Aqua more than fight them. They only really become antagonistic towards the end of the story.
>>
>>59528517
the main thing is that you go through both team hideouts, which is the part where Pokemon games already tend to drag
>>
>>59528445
I massively prefer the protagonist design in RS.
>>
>>59528623
May and Dawn are much cuter in their vanilla outfits.
>>
>>59528625
May yeah but Dawn nah
>>
>>59528445
I've only ever played Emerald, should I bother with Ruby or Sapphire? A couple of years ago I gave Pearl a chance and I was pleasantly surprised about the experience.
>>
>>59528633
The main game is basically the same, you just have one more base raid and fight a different champion in terms of main game differences.
>>
I hate the extra Team Magma content. Always slows down the pace. Steven is better than Wallace. Otherwise it's mostly an improvement.
>>
>>59528633
Beware of the infamous berry glitch that's exclusive to Ruby and Sapphire (Emerald doesn't have that problem)
>>
>>59528647
Absolutely getting fixed if it comes to e-Shop.
>>
>>59528623
I agree, thankfully there's a patch for Emerald that gives them those designs and also changes the text window back to the blue one from RS

>>
>>59528467
I prefer the Starly attack at Lake Verity over just randomly getting them from Rowan because Barry likes Pokémon a super duper lot
>>
>>59528765
The Starly encounter is such a boring retread of Gen 3. At least Platinum gives some character to Barry, Rowan, and Lucas/Dawn in that scene.
>>
Changing pickup sucks
>>
>>59528776
Getting mons from a professor for no reason is a boring retread of Gen 1.
>>
>>59528806
You were given a reason thobeit
>>
Emerald has those tag team NPCs which could be considered a negative if you don't care for double battles.
>>
>>59528445
no zangoose so it sucks
>>
>>59529087
but if you want me to be serious it fucking pisses me off they dont let you trade with any other version until the postgame for no reason
>>
>>59529092
Agreed. Gen 2 had a great setup: get Pokedex, trade with other "paired" games. Get to Ecruteak (after 3 badges) and trade with any games.

Emerald could easily restricted trade with FRLG until Slateport or Mauville. And before anyone says it, the NatDex was stupid. Another thing Gen 2 did better. No locking other mons off until the postgame!
>>
>>59528445
i hate how they replaced the contest halls with pointless battle tents, in RS i always liked doing a few contests as i progress in the game.
i also don't like the 8th gym and the e4 champ both being water trainers.
>>
>>59528445
>I know a lot of people dislike a lot of the platinum changes from diamond/pearl.
what really? what do they dislike from platium.
>>
>>59529092
You can trade with RS and other E's IIRC, just not Fr/LG. Same shit with Colosseum and GoD blocked trades until post game, it's because game rentals were a big scare for publishers at the time and they didn't want people renting a Pokemon game for a weekend, trading starters or other early game goodies over, then returning it
>>
>>59529874
>You can trade with RS and other E's IIRC
Yup. Did a Gen 3 living dex a few years ago and one of the first things I did was trade myself all three starters. As a bonus in RS you get the National Dex for trading with any other Gen 3 game. To date it's the only generational living dex I completed.
>>
>>59529144
i really hate that i can't rematch steven. for that alone i still like doing a ruby or sapphire run sometimes
>>
>>59529858
it's not slow enough, I guess
>>
>>59528445
Litterally the only thing people dislike is the champion change and even then post game steven is at least a cool fight
>>
I dislike the non-static double battles, the ones that you can just get by accident if you walk between 2 trainer's lines of sight. But that might as well be skill issue.
>>
>>59530208
What's wrong with those I'd usually try and force them to be doubles for added efficiency
>>
>>59530225
I think it's a mix of not paying attention and getting put into a double battle with my second pokemon not being the one I'd want out, and the fact that a few of them sneak their way in, with the second trainer being hidden/obscured behind a tree or something else (I remember at Slateport beach there are some you really cannot see under the parasols)
>>
>>59530232
Simply have your second pokemon be the one you want?
>>
>>59528445
>I know a lot of people dislike a lot of the platinum changes from diamond/pearl.
like what?
>>
>>59530239
Yeah, that's what I do when I'm paying attention. Which is exactly the opposite of the example I used.
>>
>>59528460
I agree except the "overleveled" part was on par for a post-game boss. Red in gen 2 was the thing to measure up to and nearly all post-game bosses are in the 70s. It is to keep you playing and there is no content locked behind him.

Also Steven was better as Champ in RS for storyline reasons. He is with you the whole way. Wallace comes out of nowhere at the end. And yeah, Water champ after 8th gym being Water was redundant.

There also felt like no reason to go into the Cave or Origin just to be told to go find Rayquaza at Sky Pillar. In RS it is perfect sense because the legendary is in there.
>>
>>59530112
You should look into Emerald ACE. One of the egg codes allows you to rematch Steven in Meteor Falls. Of course the setup is a pain in the ass and if that's all you want to do, it might be easier to just play a ROM hack that replaces Wallace with Steven. But there are a lot of really cool codes out there.

I dislike everything Emerald changed from Ruby/Sapphire except for the Battle Frontier.

I spent nearly 2 years playing Ruby & Sapphire non-stop, so when Emerald came out and fucked with a bunch of shit, it was like those uncanny bad dreams where you're in your house but everything's off by several inches. I fucking HATED it. I only got any enjoyment out of it when I got to the Battle Frontier.

I wont play Emerald to this day; only Ruby & Sapphire, but namely Ruby. I get annoyed seeing people mainly focus on Emerald when they do Gen 3 videos and runs, honestly.
>>
>>59530419
You didn't like being able to fight both Magma and Aqua? It feels weird to only fight one.
>>
>>59530425
Yeah, I didn't. You fought only one evil team in generations 1 & 2, so fighting one evil team just felt natural. Bouncing back and forth between two evil teams felt cluttered.
>>
>>59528647
>>59528654
That's been fixed a million times. Even later revisions of the cartridges have it patched by default. Kind of a moot point anyways since every RSE cartridge has a dead battery by now unless you replaced it.
>>
>>59530419
I can understand this. Something similar happened to me going from Silver > Crystal, the change of the Dragon Fang quest to a quiz makes me upset to this day even though I can agree it makes a better story device.
>>
>>59530419
>>59530439
If RSE all come at once, I might unironically get sapphire since as much as I love the Frontier, I just can't get invested it in again from scratch with gen 3 mechanics.
>>
>>59530452
I will only buy one of them if they have online trade, and I say this knowing very well they won't have it.
The only reason I would ever have to get them would be to complete the dex, so if that's impossible without me getting a second switch I might as well save me 30 bucks.
>>
>>59529858
Purugly got send to “fuck you” purgatory in platinum and hadn’t recovered since. I will say that while it gives “you control the buttons you press” vibes I don’t like how they just give you an option to buy poffins in platinum instead of making easier ways for growing/obtaining exotic berries
>>
>>59530486
Lunatone and Purugly playing together in the "3rd game fucked us" playground.
>>
>>59530512
Oh, and Mareep.
>>
I hate that they removed the contests from each city but that's about it. Emerald is pure unfiltered kino
>>
>>59529874
you cant trade with other rse's if they arent the same region as yours until the postgame, which bothers me in specific lol since my emerald is english my ruby is japanese and my sapphire is italian, i know its a me problem but its so arbitrary and annoying
>>
>>59530515
Mareep is nowhere near as bad as Purugly. She has only been arbitrarily withheld in Crystal and otherwise plenty available. Purugly was Pearl exclusive until fucking ORAS aside from a BW2 funfest mission.
>>
>>59530586
>its so arbitrary and annoying
the data on the carts is different enough for both games to corrupt when connected
>>
>>59530595
Yeah that's kinda shit.
>>
>>59530599
thats a gen 1/2 thing iirc, ive never had an issue with the trades themselves besides the arbitrary block
>>
>>59530612
its also the case in gen 3 which is why they added said block. the games were translated by localizers editing the source code and recompiling the game. different length strings can rearrange the binary to the point where data in memory gets shifted around.
>>
>>59530619
>>59530599
Incorrect. Gen 3 data structure is independent of language.
That's exactly why you can trade between different languages after the post game.
If there was a code issue, how would this be possible?
>>
>>59530631
You can? Thought you couldnt. I work with the decomps and many minor changes keep bricking the save file and the linking so I thought the lockout was a general thing not early game. That's retarded then.
>>
>>59530637
Yes, that's what >>59530586 said initially.
In gens 1 and 2, you really can't. But Gen 3 onwards (except Ruby/Sapphire 1.0) you can trade freely between languages, except for Hoenn games that lock it to the post game.
