The humanoids or the objects or the ones that are literally just the animal it's based on? PS sorry about the shitty editing in picrel. I didn't mean to make the background black. Though ironically it kind of works in making Mr. Mime look even more creepy lol. Personally I'd say the humanoids are the worst ones. Just simply due to the fact that they're creepy and kinda bring up moral dilemmas. Like why am I catching this thing that looks like a person and is very intelligent and making it fight for me? And overall can you just imagine, assuming you're a person with pets if your pet cat/dog/bunny/turtle/guinea pig/bird/whatever evolved into some weird creature that's a mix of animal and human? Would be pretty fucked up if you asked me. And it sucks that so many of these are starters now...MOST starters in recent generations actually. I think Skeledirge's the one with absolutely zero humanoid qualities since like gen 5.Then for the object Pokemon...mostly just lazy I guess but not as nearly as bad as the humanoid Pokemon. Fortunately not as creepy as the humanoids though they do break immersion a bit. And then lastly for the ones who are just regular animals they are just inoffensive I suppose. Not amazing but not awful. Definitely better than object mons and way better than humanoid mons. A lot of these actually (or at least the ones from gen 1) are pretty common favorites and considered iconic. A lot of Normal and Flying types as well as even some Water and Poison and Bug types fall into this category.Anyway yeah those are my thoughts. Yours?
Taking the first comment from Yawnfag.
>>59535340Getting creeped out by fictional creatures from a children’s game sounds dumb
>>59535340i agree with you about the humanoids. i just can't like them no matter how hard i try
>>59535356Malding over them over their design just because it's a "cartoon animal" is also dumb.
>>59535384Nah that one makes senseIt’s a monster franchise, I don’t want to see animals
>>59535356Nah nah nah nah nah it makes sense. They ruin imagination. Like imagine you are there in the world in the game. So real to you that it practically becomes live action. You see the Pidgeys flying. The Skiddos running around in the grass. Some Charmanders chilling by a volcano. You see some Slowpokes chilling by the lake. And then a fucking Mr. Mime pops out at you out of nowhere. Or even worse a group of Mr. Mime that makes it seem like they're in a cult or gang of killer clowns.
>>59535388Too bad because it started with gen 1.Also if (You) attempt to move the goalpost I'll have (You) know that doing so is an admission of defeat.
>>59535340Humanoids for sure. I used to really dislike them growing up for the same reason of it being a moral dilemma. Getting into other monster franchises made me excuse them but the way the world of Pokemon operates inevitably makes their existence uncanny, and it's hard to not notice how Lucario has set the precedent of humanoid industry plants for every following generation. I'm biased for liking a lot of generic animal Pokemon, but I the only ones I really can't defend are Toucannon or Flamigo. just boring.Objections are overhated. Most criticisms I see attack them for being based on a Thing, but... so is every other Pokemon. Generally their worst offense is being forgettable.
>>59535447Gen 1 had fewer cartoon animal designs than every other gen. There’s a reason why it’s still the most popular gen while you perpetually seethe in jealousy over it.
>>59535450Thanks for admitting defeat.
>>59535356if he finds humanoid pokemon creepy then he better not check out any horror series rated pg-13 or tv-14 and higher both animated and live action and both eastern and western. he better stick to stuff made for kids
>>59535453Thanks for admitting defeat.
59535469>as xey parrot my post
>>59535340green and white feminine humanoid plant/fairy
>>59535340>Skeledirge>absolutely zero humanoid qualitiesIt literally stands up to sing into a mic and show its tailcoat pattern, but sure it walks like a croc.>>59535419Depends on if you see pokemon as just animals of the world or monsters too. Humanoid monsters have existed in fantasy since forever. Like Mr. Mime but also Hitmonchan, Machamp and Alakazam in gen 1 pokemon.
>59535473>as xey admit defeat again
>>59535340Object pokémon are more of a reference to yokai. After sitting for 100+ years if not some other circumstances, the object becomes sentient.
>>59535340i genuinely never saw anyone giving a shit about the three pokemon for the "Literally just the animal it's based on" category
With Jynx it's like if your Pokemon can be mistaken for a racist caricature of a Black woman then you KNOW it's just WAY too humanoid lmfao. Would never happen with an object mon or an animal mon.
objectmons no question.
>>59535491not sure if i'm just naive but i didn't perceive jynx as blackface at first. i didn't even perceive the black part of her face as skin. i thought it was a shadow similar to the gastly line or the shellder line or tangela. i perceived her as some sort of weird ghost woman just without the ghost type explicitly. plus wasn't there a pokemon stadium animation where her fainting animation had her basically completely fade away and turn into just her wig? basically insinuating the wig is the only real part of her body?
>>59535340I like the humanoids just fine and like the "literally just the animal" less(but when they are done in an interesting way I like them). That being said, I wish the humanoids leaned further into using human-like monsters. Minotaurs, Lamia and other such things, but also using animal+human combos we haven't seen as much.
not sure why people hate voltorb/electrode so much when pokeballs are literally a pokemon franchise original and not an object from the real world. plus they are based on mimic monsters which are common in jrpgs
>>59535559it's not literally a treasure chest with coins in it so retards think it's a bad design
>>59535560HAHA! THE TABLES HAVE TURNED! NOW OLD BAD, NEW GOOD!
>>59535356>from a children’s gameYet here you are as an adult still playing these "children's" games and following this series made for "children"... so what does that make you?A hypocrite?
>>59535340I kinda liked the gen 1 humanoids such as Mr. Mime and Jynx and the Hitmons because of how random and weird they were. I also liked Blaziken for being a completely random and unexpected evolution. For most starters up till that point you sort of knew what to expect, a bigger and stronger version of the pre-evolutions while Blaziken was just random. However from gen 6 onwards they became way too common. Now I can no longer like Mr. Mime or Jynx for being random and unique because they no longer stand out. I know gen 5 had some humanoids like Emboar sorta and Sawk/Throh and Conkeldurr and Gothitelle but they look more monstrous as opposed to just fursuits so for me it began in gen 6. Plus a lot of the gen 5 humanoids were parallel to the gen 1 ones.
>>59535746idk i'd take a fursuit over literally just a person lol. like in op picrel mr. mime vs meowscarada
>>59535746Hitmonlee is pretty much some weird cryptid thing. The others are arguably cartoon people.
>>59535792Same goes for Hitmontop. Hitmonchan is easily the worst of the line being a boxing gloves guy with a dress(?) and a weird shaped head. Tyrogue is kinda eh but still better than Hitmonchan. Hitmonlee (especially) and Hitmontop are the best ones.
>>59535559>it's supposed to be bad
>>59535340humanoid mons are good if they're played as something weird and not a cool mascot.
>>59535855>it's bad because I said so
>>59535855>it's supposed to be badPeople like you just don't get it and will never fucking understand why Pokemon from Kanto are different compared to other regions. You just had to be alive during Gen 1 to experience it for yourself. Like another comment said, you're just seething in jealousy... probably because you never got the chance to experience the original Pokemania.
>>59535340Ghost being a type justifies the objects since gen 1 (so does fairy later on)>Biped = humanoid Who the fuck are you, Plato?"Just the animal" are easily the laziest designs
>>59535805Hitmontop also has dumb hair, shape and clothes.
>>59535340None of them, the problem comes when they distinctly lack the monster aspect. If it's "just a(n)" anything, it's bad.
>>59535340By "object Pokemon" are we including the cool ones almost everyone likes such as Aegislash, Chandelure, Magnezone, and Rotom (at least his other forms when he possesses items)? The ones that are so cool that they break the mold of what object Pokemon are supposed to be? And would Rock types and the such technically count as object Pokemon? I don't know.
>>59536745Well 3/4 of the ones you named are all Ghost type and when it comes to object Pokemon I think Ghost can get a pass just for the theme of ghosts being able to possess objects. I wouldn't really count Rock types as objects because when people say object Pokemon they're referring more to man-made human objects rather than ones that occur naturally in nature. I'd say Rock types are more similar to Grass types and plants as in they both occur in nature despite not being animals. Plus if that were the case then practically all Rock types would be object Pokemon except for the ones combined with some animal characteristics lol.
for the humanoid category i'm ready to be crucified for this but i never cared for gardevoir. the only reason it's popular is because people wanna fuck it. the whole evolution line actually including the branched evolution gallade is just garbage to me. just some sort of weird alien humanoid with green hair? i'd much rather have something like alakazam or espeon as my psychic type. for me the gardevoir line is only slightly more appealing than jynx and i fucking hate jynx
>>59536891I agree. I don't hate the Ralts line or anything but it was always kinda meh to me. Just so many Pokemon I like better.
>>59536891>the only reason it's popular is because people wanna fuck it. I liked Gardevoir for many, many years before I even hit puberty and/or had my first boner. I didn't even think of it as sexual I just thought it was a cool Pokemon. It was a very rare find at the very beginning of the game and part of a powerful 3 stage evolution; almost like a second starter. Similar to what Mareep was in gen 2 and also with both being of a single type that's pretty rare and powerful without very many weaknesses. I didn't see it as "sexy" or even beautiful I saw it as more as imposing and intimidating. I thought of the green hair as more of a helmet and the red spike on its chest as something it could impale opponents with and that's why the spike is red. I didn't even think of it as feminine because my Gardevoir was male. These days I still like Gardevoir but not nearly as much as I used to because the internet kinda ruined Gardevoir for me.
>>59537032>I saw it as more as imposing and intimidating. I thought of the green hair as more of a helmet and the red spike on its chest as something it could impale opponents with and that's why the spike is red.oh wow i never thought of gardevoir that way before. that definitely makes it way cooler in my eyes than the whole waifu interpretation
>>59537141I think that IS supposed to be the default interpretation of Gardevoir. The Pokemon Company just had no idea how weird the internet could be lol. Ruby and Sapphire was back in 2002 in which internet weirdos weren't as quite as prevalent as they are now.
>>59535340>humanoid is fine so long as there's not TOO many in each dex, though it feels like they're adding more each gen. Also would be nice if the franchise could decide on how "human" the humanlike Pokemon should be. Overall I like them as they add some diversity to the dexes, though I don't like when starters are clearly gendered due to how divisive they tend to be, like watching my nephew's shock when he learned his male Popplio evolves into something girly... then evolves to become womanly>objectmons tend to be pretty okay. It varies, but they're generally a bit creative, even if most of the time you have to see them moving around and doing shit in the anime to really fully understand the concept. Some are a bit lazy, but it's not too badFor me, it's the "literally just my mom's dog" basic-ass animal Pokemon, they always come across as lazy, since most just straight-up are "real animal but in the Pokemon art style" the Pokemon. They just feel like filler.Like, in a world where Pokemon can be some weird DNA-robot-alien, a big sun lion, a rabbit that uses its ears like excavator arms, a bomb-throwing fairy, or some flower dinosaur, it's always rubbed me the wrong way that some Pokemon are just a regular dog, or just a regular bird.>>59537284Gardevoir was viewed as an elegant woman since day one by everyone, even normies. Nobody saw a "knight", even non-normalfag Pokenerds, especially since it evolved from one of the girliest Pokemon the franchise had at the time. The entire line being voiced by women doing female voices in both US and JP didn't help.PLA took it a bit further, but that's a "new" game so it probably doesn't count.
>>59535450That would be gen 2.
>>59535340For me it's literally animals>objects>humanoids though it really depends on the humanoid/object. I like Lopunny because it's still based on and acts like an animal. Humanoid mons are getting too human-like lately and it's weird. Objectmons should mostly be relegated to Ghost type and not stupid shit the designer saw around the room, like keys. Both objectmons and humanmons suffer from uninspired designers.
>>59535340The humanoids are the worst because they're just weird and not in a good way. Weird in a way that just make you uncomfortable. There's a reason people keep begging for quadruped starters. Let's hope the developers don't screw up with gen 10.
>>59537465Doubt it, there's a reason there are more humanoid starters now, the quadruped starters tend to flop no matter how much people seem to beg for them.
>>59535340
>>59537284Pretty sure Gardevoir leaned into the Princess Knight concept. The very first notable manga Princess Knight was named Sapphire, and Gardevoir shows up in Pokemon Sapphire.
>>59537465>Weird in a way that just make you uncomfortable. There's a reason people keep begging for quadruped starters. And yet quadruped starters are the least well-liked starter of their group in almost every case.
>>59537534You're not supposed to point that out
>>59537529They match well and Diantha even looks like her
>>59537465as someone who hasn't followed the new games since gen 5 and no longer give a shit i really wanna see they make pombon another fire/fighting starter just to piss people off. oh and i guess make gecqua water/dark since that's the most common water type starter combination not counting mono types? and make browt grass/fighting since that's the most common grass starter combo? i don't know just make them all the least common type for their respective types to piss people off. and make all three as humanoid as possible. draw three human people from the real world and just give them animal heads
>>59535340Objects all highkey suck, even cool ones like aegislash still suck in multiple ways
>>59537534Swampert and Torterra are plenty well liked and I think Skeledirge is too but I 100% remember Venusaur and Meganium getting A LOT of shit even despite Venusaur arguably being the best for Kanto playthroughs and then for Samurott people didn't really like any of the gen 5 starters anyway. Of these mentioned Swampert is 100% the most popular. Also helps that it has exactly ONE weakness in Grass type while in Hoenn Grass types are rare meaning you borderline have an invincible Pokemon as long as you're not underleveled and know good moves. And then should ones with no legs like Serperior or Primarina even count for quadruped? I dunno. I think they are disliked regardless though.
>>59535340animals: 10/10ohjects: 1/10
>>59538084Venusaur, Meganium, Samurott and Skeledirge get mogged hard by their prevos. Funnier for Samurott and Skeledirge since their first stages, which are bipedal, are among the most popular pokemon of their gen. But when they get quadrupedal at the end they rank much lower.
>>59538093Oh we're doing out of 10?Animals: 11/10Objects: 5-6/10Humanoids: 0/10
>>59535340>I think Skeledirge's the one with absolutely zero humanoid qualities since like gen 5.It's a opera singer clown, it still has humanoid traits, it's not just a matter of apparence
>>59535340I love the object Pokemon just simply because I find them funny. They're just so silly. The regular animal Pokemon however are just boring and the humanoid Pokemon I avoid as much as possible. For humanoid starters I either box them or just use the pre-evolved form(s) without ever evolving it. I remember with Torracat refusing to ever evolve it into Incineroar and Sobble refusing to evolve it at all period and just using them that way lol.
>>59535340Objects are the best just for Aegislash alone...nuff said.
>>59538429after that new mega i think chandelure is the better object mon
>>59538457nta i would've said rotom but at this point rotom is just overrated and i'm tired of seeing it everywhere. it feels like it's borderline reaching pikachu, charizard, lucario, greninja, etc. status
>>59538510if it wasn't for the whole porygon anime incident then porygon probably would've been used in the way rotom is used now
>>59538084Serperior was the most popular final evo for Gen 5, I think. Pretty sure the most popular final evo in Gen 7 is dependent on the country though. Primarina in Japan, Decidueye in the US.
>>59538561Even though I normally hate the color pink and feel neutral towards the color orange I believe that Porygon is a much better design than Rotom.
>>59535340the regular animals just simply because of how boring they are and how little they stand out. it's just sort of like yay a rat...yay a fish...yay a caterpillar...the objects and the humanoids are at least more memorable even if for negative reasons
>>59535340Unsure if unpopular opinion or not but I don't see anything wrong with any of them. I'm someone who doesn't really truly hate any Pokemon and can see the beauty in all of them even if obviously some are way better than others. Even the object Pokemon, the humanoid Pokemon, and the Pokemon that are regular animals contribute to the beautiful diversity of the Pokemon world. Let's not forget Pokemon is a reference to pocket MONSTERS not pocket animals. Monsters can be quite literally anything. And that's good in my opinion. If it matters at all my favorite kind of Pokemon tend to be dinosaur/dragon/large reptile looking ones. So quite common as that includes basically all Dragon types naturally and then some starters such as Charizard, Feraligatr, Sceptile, etc. And then my LEAST favorite...eh...kinda hard I guess but I guess the humanoids but I still like them a lot.
>>59535340i will drop all humanoids in the trash before i touch a single ice cream cone or literally mom's pet snake
>>59539518While I do admire your enthusiasm and optimism I also fucking hate you with the fire of a thousand suns because you're exactly the lowest common denominator that Game Freak has been targeting since gen 6. Game Freak knows that they can make the lowest quality games possible with objectively shitty Pokemon designs and retards like you will still enjoy it and buy their games. If only Pokemon fans all over the world young and old as a whole decided to stop buying new Pokemon games till Game Freak actually started to make high quality shit again like they used to in gen 5 and below then perhaps things would be a thousand times better.
>>59539568>you're exactly the lowest common denominator that Game Freak has been targeting since gen 65*>actually started to make high quality shit again like they used to in gen 54*
>>59539568Ouch ouch ouch ouch ouch...I feel like cursing you out and calling you all sorts of names right now but a part of me knows you are right and that I basically just got put in my place. Regardless if I'm self-aware of that or not though I'm not changing my outlook. You only live once. Might as well do things you enjoy even if they're not the smartest things to do in the long run.
>>59539573Nah gen 5 was definitely still very good. HeartGold/SoulSilver were VERY tough acts to follow but I believe Black/White and Black2/White2 still somehow managed to pull it off close enough. The animations and spritework in gen 5 was basically the best 2D Pokemon has ever been. Gen 6 though then ruined everything that gen 5 set up and we've basically been using the same 3D models from gen 6 all the way up to this day.
>>59539637>Nah gen 5 was definitely still very goodNo it wasn’t.>The animations and spritework in gen 5 was basically the best 2D Pokemon has ever beenIt’s the worst looking gen in the series outside of arguably gen 9.
>>59539568Eh they can still make high quality designs but some of their artists have wack ideas. Get rid of those guys.
>>59539637>The animations and spritework in gen 5 was basically the bestWhat about the animations and spritework made it good? Be specific.
>>59539637most people's criticisms of gen 5 have always been super superficial. like oh no the ice cream pokemon oh no the garbage bag pokemon oh no i can't use any of my old favorites (even though b2w2 fixed this part) and all that shit as if previous gens had zero bad designs. and people keep purposefully focusing on the lame pokemon such as watchog and the elemental monkeys and not the actually cool shit such as bisharp haxorus hydreigon braviary volcarona chandelure krookodile zoroark archeops etc. like sure dewgong and fearow are so much cooler and more original than bisharp and haxorus
>>59535340I've found out that the people who hate on these categories tend to be the most obnoxious people on the internet.
>>59539667>the entire game being an ugly casualized straight line is superficial>not like my non-superficial complaints like kanto pokemon existing in xy
>>59539667I mean no one's denying gen 5 had some good Pokemon at least but a massive amount of gen 5 Pokemon were just inferior parallels to gen 1 Pokemon. Like who the hell thinks Conkeldurr looks better than Machamp? Or Seismitoad better than Poliwrath? Hell the Hitmons are already weird to begin with but Sawk and Throh manage to somehow be even worse. Alomomola makes the already lame Luvdisc (I know it's gen 3) look cute. Bouffalant is just sort of Tauros with a goofy afro. I will say though Gigalith looks better than Golem and Zebstrika looks better than Rapidash. And Gothitelle equal to Gardevoir I guess. But the vast majority still looks worse.
for you guys arguing about gen 5 may i propose...gens 1-4: legendarygen 5: okaygens 6+: hellish
for you guys arguing about gen 5 may i propose...gens 1-4: legendarygen 5+: hellish
>>59539720>>59539722Nah you guys gen 5 was a step down from gen 4 but still not as bad as gen 6 forwards. The 3D models they've been using since gen 6 are just plain ugly with no personality. Plus gen 5 did reuse the already gorgeous sprites from gen 4, just made them animated. If you call gen 5 sprites crappy you're calling gen 4 sprites crappy too.
>>59539743>but still not as bad as gen 6 forwards.True. It’s worse.
>>59539743Nta but that's not true. The gen 4 sprites are great. The pixilated mess of some of them in motion... not as great. That's the criticism of the sprites in gen 5. Some like the animation, some hate it, and some see it as a mixed bag (like me).
as a double agent for both 4chan and reddit it's funny to see reddit sucking gen 5's dick so hard meanwhile here on 4chan we're basically cutting off gen 5's dick and letting it bleed to death. it's like night and day
people have been making arguments for new pokemon sucking as early as gen 3 not even gen 5
This question is foolish. I truly would not put one above or beneath the other. Individual mons yes, entire categories no. The charm (or whatever is left of it) of Pokemon is its creature diversity. To attempt to undermine or even wish to rid of one of these as a whole is a failure to understand how Pokemon became one of the highest grossing franchises of all.
>>59539771i expect redditors to like Gen 1 a lot more, seeing how it has a lot of fat Pokemon, which is remniscent of their messiah figure Big Chungus, but I suppose Gen 5's Pokemon resembles their other god, Keanu Reaves.
>>59539783damn i think you just murdered all of reddit. quick you better hide the body before the internet police catches you
>>59535340Objectmons are the HEART AND SOVL of Pokemon, objectively being based on just an animal with nothing else to it is the worst sin you can commit for a Pokemon design, the furries are a mixed bag
>>59539783big chungus is from /tv/
>>59539783Wait isn't gen 4 the one who has the most fat Pokemon? Especially because of all the bulky looking new evolutions to old Pokemon?
>>59539801oh that reminds me at the time people were shitting on gen 4 before shitting on gen 5. they thought the new evolutions looked retarded. i remember them especially hating lickilicky, probopass, magmortar, rhyperior, tangrowth, dusknoir, magnezone, togekiss, etc. though a few such as weavile, froslass, leafeon, glaceon, etc. were well enough received. i also remember though people not liking how detailed and complex the gen 4 starter final evolutions were. and so on
>>59539843Why Magnezone? That's a good one.
>>59535340The worst pokemon of all time is an objectmon that is a humanoid so "my mom's dog" group is fine.
>>59539568>objectively shitty Pokemon designs...and other things only retards like you who can't be taken seriously says here because I doubt you have any credentials to justify retarded statements like that
>>59539893I can't speak for him but I based on his reply to the other anon I think he was grouping in all "fat/bulky" gen 4 evolutions together.
>>59539695>Or Seismitoad better than Poliwrath?who the fuck DOESN'T think thisPoliwhirl you would have a point but Poliwrath is just a worse Poliwhirl that offers nothing new, it's a bottom 10 design in the series
>>59539968I don't think he knows what the word objectively means...>>59539568So were you absent in elementary school the day they taught you the difference between fact and opinion, objectively and subjectively? When it comes to facts and objective things they're things that just are what they are and can't be disproven. The sky is blue, the grass is green, a zebra is an animal, a coconut tree is a plant, Americans speak English, Mexicans speak Spanish, etc. If you want examples in Pokemon itself then Grass beats Water, Hydreigon has a BST of 600, Pidgey evolves at level 18, etc. Now when it comes to opinions and subjective things these things are basically just feelings where it's how an individual person feels and isn't right or wrong. I prefer chocolate over vanilla, I prefer Shrek over Toy Story, I prefer the color green over the color red, I prefer bitter foods over sweet foods, I prefer tigers over lions, I prefer blonde women over brunette women, etc. No one can really tell me I'm wrong for preferring chocolate over vanilla because that's just my preference. If you want examples in Pokemon itself then I prefer Greninja over Charizard, I think Teddiursa is much cuter than Phanpy, I think Dragonair's Shiny is better than Dragonite's, etc. You see kids...I hope you learned a lot.
>>59535340Try to guess which one of these pokemon is actually beloved and/or popular
>>59541076meowscarada
>>59541105Bingo
>>59541073i know you were (rightfully so) being as patronizing and as condescending as possible to him but the sad thing is that A LOT of full grown adults over 30 still somehow don't know the difference between objective and subjective...sometimes it feels like the iq of the average person is like 50 something. and i wouldn't consider myself smart but i do like to think i have some basic ass common sense at the bare minimum
>>59541073Lol drop that postmodernist "everything's subjective" trash. There are objective truths in art design. Whether you like those objective elements (or these facts I'm spittin') is what's subjective. You can like things that are objectively bad. Just don't try to pretend everything is subjective to validate your tastes.>>59541273Wasn't exactly right to be condescending when you're both wrong. The funny thing is, you both believe yourselves to be more intelligent yet don't realize you're on the same intellectual level as inbred hicks.
>>59541324literally NOBODY said that "everything's subjective." that other anon literally just explicitly explained the differences between objective and subjective and facts and opinions. since you're just THAT retarded to completely miss the point i'll just copy and paste the definitions from an actual online dictionary (cambridge dictionary in specific because ai killed off the official google definitions)objective: "based on real facts and not influenced by personal beliefs or feelings"subjective: "influenced by or based on personal beliefs or feelings, rather than based on facts"fact: "something that is known to have happened or to exist, especially something for which proof exists, or about which there is information"opinion: "a thought or belief about something or someone"those are the literal dictionary definitions of those words. if you wanna go change the official definitions then be my guest. it will be a lot of hard work but you can try
>>59541076>>59541105>>59541206Now try to guess which one of these is almost universally hated and single-handedly is used as an example to disparage a whole generation despite the generation itself being really good and full of inspiration and good designs
>>59541604vanilluxe
>>59541643Bingo
>>59535340Despite how much hate Mr. Mime gets I believe he has more than made up for it since his introduction. Ash's Mr. Mime in the anime is hilarious and one of his most iconic Pokemon and it was entertaining in the Journeys anime, Mr. Mime was also hilarious in the Detective Pikachu movie, Galarian Mr. Mime and Mr. Rime are great and funny and Leon's Mr. Rime was great against Ash in the anime, etc. I'd say Mr. Mime has really made a name for himself. Even a weird Pokemon who is massively disliked for being creepy or whatever can become likable through representation. I could see the same having happened to Jynx too if only it weren't for the whole blackface controversy. I did find Jynx pretty entertaining in its anime appearances.
>>59541324NTA but>There are objective truths in art design. No there aren't. This is nonsense spouted by pretentious artfags so they can claim their scribblings are better than other artfags' scribblings so they can sell more of them. Art isn't even real, it's a buzzword like SOVL on /v/, except older. Thankfully AI has woken people up to how worthless "artists" actually are.
>>59541324Except Pokémon monster design can't be said to be the same as modern art or even food and their rules. You can't even say for sure that the west and east have the same rules for what would make an objectively correctly designed character/monster.Unless you have been like hired at TPC so you know their design rules or can piece together Pokémon design rules by analyzing a bunch of interviews and monster designs, how can you say what Pokémon stick out as objectively bad Pokémon designs?
>>59535340i think theres plenty of space for all of these desu it takes a certain kind of autism to put pomémon into categories just to get mad at them and im just a different kinda beast i guess
>>59541798>I could see the same having happened to Jynx too if only it weren't for the whole blackface controversy. I did find Jynx pretty entertaining in its anime appearances.the same would 100% have happened for jynx. perhaps it could've even have played the role of ash's mr. mime's girlfriend or crush or something. humanoid pokemon in general i imagine are pretty practical and fun to draw and animate despite how a lot of people hate them. since they can grasp at things and hold things the same way a human character can and shit
>>59535340The think that kinda breaks immersion for me with objectmons or humanoids to unsubtly based after human creations is that they make no sense world-building wise.Pokemon are natur al creatures, have more or less always existed (even Magnemite was there 3000 years ago), so pokemon designs based on obvious human creations (objects, specific clothing...etc) feel retarded. But GF gives zero shit about world building or consistency anyway, so...
>>59543430>so pokemon designs based on obvious human creations (objects, specific clothing...etc) feel retarded. With Ghost types and ONLY Ghost types this can kinda work as the idea is a ghost possessing things to mess with people and the best objectmons are basically all Ghost types anyway but other than that yeah it feels retarded.
>>59535340Obviously humanoids, since they are just there to please furries and are lowkey just weird, the only one i respect is mr.mime and his father mr.rime since he is obviously just frenchmen, batteling fantastical beasts and monsters.
>>59543430Anon, there is some lore that is explain in the pokedex. Look at Conkeldurr. It's pokedex explain that they taught humans how to make concrete. It's clear that in the Pokémon world, humans learn from Pokémon and they created things based around them.
>>59543568I agree with you on Mr. Mime and Mr. Rime. I'd also add Jynx to that very small list since she's obviously just a Viking woman, deciding to explore this bizarre and mysterious world. Mr. Mime/Mr. Rime and Jynx are very unique in their roles and are iconic even if for negative reasons, however all the furries in the more recent gens can go to hell. They may technically look more appealing than Mr. Mime/Mr. Rime and Jynx but they're really basic with no inspiration at all beyond "hey let's make something furries can simp, fap, coom, and goon to."
>>59543568>>59543637i'd say the furries were fine till they began to go overboard in gen 6+. before that the only furries were really lucario, lopunny, zoroark, blaziken, emboar, and i think that's it. the furries were rare and spread out and as such stood out. in gen 6+ though they just introduced too many of them
>>59543703i don't know if i'd count emboar as humanoid or a furry. bipedal does not automatically equal humanoid. i'd say emboar is more similar to pokemon like nidoking/nidoqueen, rhydon/rhyperior, tyranitar, dusknoir, lickilicky, etc. than a humanoid or a furry. the others you mentioned though yes 100% furries
>>59543703Yeah, gen 6 added so many furfag Pokemon, like Braixen and uhhhhhhhhhh
>>59543826All three gen 6 starters were furfags...in the case of Greninja whatever the amphibian/reptilian equivalent of furries is if it even has a name I don't care enough to look it up and I don't wanna know lol. Greninja may not have fur but still looks way too humanoid for a frog. Even Decidueye directly after it who is an owl/bird looks more like a person in a hoodie than the animal it's supposed to be.
is she an objectmon?
>>59544092I mean I guess so lol.>she>double checks bulbapedia>gender ratio: gender unknown/genderlesshmm...
>>59544033>whatever the amphibian/reptilian equivalent of furries is if it even has a name I don't care enough to look it up and I don't wanna know lol. i hate that i know this, i know it because of a cringe autistic lesbian feminist classmate i used to have who was into bdsm and was a furry and just had to let everyone including completely random people know her preferences but...apparently "scalies" is the term. i hate that i remember that. i don't know if both amphibians and reptiles are grouped into it but whatever i don't wanna look into it any further
>>59544033>All three gen 6 starters were furfagsok then all three of gen 5 starters were also furfags.
>>59535340Objectmons, they're all lazy faggotry. Animalmons do something to put a twist on the animal in most cases (those that don't are also shit)Humanoids include monsters like obstagoon or at least have cool themes like a martial arts chicken.
>>59544130For Emboar and Samurott I can see it but how the hell is Serperior a furfag or any kind of fag? It doesn't even have any limbs. It's a fucking snake. LOL!
>>59544170>It doesn't even have any limbsmost intelligent unova defender
>>59543637>but they're really basic with no inspiration at allI assume you don't include any of the recent starters in this then and that you've never complained about jobmon starters because those are arguably more inspired than Mr. Mime/Jynx, so I assume you're just being dishonest and you aren't actually that stupid
>>59544170oh you'd be surprised. since serperior is so long you can use it as a giant dildo. a giant delicious green 10'10" and 138.9 lbs. dildo
>>59544246I uh...uh...fuck it I don't even know what to say...
>>59535340As someone who doesn't take themselves seriously and likes funny and goofy things the object Pokemon are actually my favorite of all and the ones in the picrel are unironically some of my favorites. My favorite of all would be Rotom if you count that as an object Pokemon. I personally do count Rotom as an object Pokemon because in his other forms he does quite literally become the appliances he possesses even gaining their typing. If not counting Rotom then Chandelure. I do realize those I just mentioned are the most badass object Pokemon. But I like literally all of them really. Garbodor included.
>>59543631Yeah I like this theory, but it can only work for relatively subtle human-related designsThere are some designs for which it's too much of complex human invention itself steming from others inventions..etc, that the "humans copied the pokemon" explaination no longer works
>>59543631oh shit this is actually genius
>>59543631I'd say Vanilluxe is arguably the best example of this. In the Pokemon world people based ice cream cones on them instead of the other way around.
>>59545963Vanilluxe is a good exemple of what I said here >>59544691With a more subtle design without the straw, the theory could work. But with the straw, it just falls flat.Drinking straws are a human invention that serve a specific purpose to humans, a purpose that doesnt exist with Vanilluxe.Drinking straws thus cannot have been invented by just looking at Vanilluxe. That's why I'd rather like if pokemon design based on man-made stuff were more natural looking and avoided being filled with tons of different man-made inventions within the same design.
>>59535340Someone please for the love of God NOT group in Infernape and Rillaboom with the humanoid starters...primates are literally the ONE class of animals that have a legit proper excuse to be humanoid. Hating Infernape and Rillaboom who are primates for being humanoid is like hating on Pidgeot and Staraptor who are birds for having wings.
>>59548010i've literally never seen anyone hate on infernape or rillaboom for being humanoid. the most i've seen are jokes actually in their favor pointing out how ironic that the new starters who are shit like rabbits, cats, foxes, lizards, birds, etc. somehow end up looking more humanoid than literal primates. like there's no excuse that cinderace the rabbit looks more humanoid than infernape or that meowscarada the cat looks more humanoid than rillaboom. it's just so ironic and stupid
>>59548010>>59548091now that you guys mentioned infernape and rillaboom i kinda want a water type monkey starter just to complete the pattern...if only for the sake of putting the elemental monkeys completely out of business lol. simisear in specific was already beyond fuck due to infernape already existing IN THE PREVIOUS GEN
>>59548158Yeah I highly doubt that's gonna happen. Game Freak doesn't really care about continuing patterns regardless of how many fans insist they do. They've broken the arbitrary "rules" that fans laid out many times. They more or less just do what they want and that's it. One of the most popular ones was new Eeveelutions every even numbered generation but they stopped caring after gen 6 and I highly doubt we're getting any in gen 10...also another one that Eeveelutions can only be special types (pre-gen 4) while Umbreon was meant to be Poison type back in gen 2 before they changed it and we were apparently supposed to get a Flying type Eeveelution that was scrapped in gen 7, both Poison and Flying being physical types.
>>59548191>while Umbreon was meant to be Poison type back in gen 2 before they changed iti kinda wish it stayed poison type instead of becoming dark type desu. we need more cool poison types. even in gen 2 itself tyranitar, houndoom, and sneasel carried dark type hard without needing umbreon while poison types were lacking in cool pokemon and umbreon could've helped with that. a 525 bst pokemon with very defensive stats could've been great for poison types. also would explain the poisonous sweat pokedex entries and the rings on its body that are reminiscent of patterns on some poisonous animals such as the ringed octopus
>>59548191>we were apparently supposed to get a Flying type Eeveelution that was scrapped in gen 7Their reason for this was actually so retarded...they apparently couldn't make the Flying type Eeveelution because there were so many fanmade Eeveelutions out there that it was hard to come up with an original idea and they didn't want to make up something that looks too similar to a fan creation and get sued or something.
>>59535340all three are equally bad
i'd say the regular animals because they're just boring and forgettable. finneon/lumineon are the most egregious examples of this
>>59548664Ironically Finneon and Lumineon are not so forgettable anymore because of their whole reputation as the most forgettable Pokemon. How can you be forgettable if so many people are talking about you? Doesn't that kinda go against the whole idea of something being forgettable? A truly forgettable Pokemon would be one that people never mention at all...though if that one also gains the reputation as the most forgettable Pokemon it also won't be forgettable. Currently I would assume it's something like Burmy though. Don't see many people talking about it. Comfey? Heatmor? I'm not really sure. To me personally no Pokemon is forgettable really since I'm really good at keeping track of them all though I'm somewhat iffy on gen 9 just simply due to it being the newest.
>>59548697Its fearow btwPeople actively shit on heatmor enough it isn't forgotten and comfey has some niches that make people hate/love it. Fearow? Forgotten even by gamefreak. Overshadowed by Spearow in gen 7 games, even.
>>59548700Fearow? I'm not sure about that. The Pidgey line is arguably the most iconic regional bird line and the Spearow line is seen as a counterpart and rival to it. Plus I'm pretty sure Fearow is stronger than Pidgeot without counting its Mega because Pidgeot's level up movepool is just SO bad and doesn't match its stats at all. Plus Spearows were a major antagonist in the very first episode of the Pokemon anime almost killing Ash and Pikachu. If we're talking regional birds I'd say Unfezant is probably the most forgettable. It coming after Swellow and Staraptor and before Talonflame just puts it in a really weird spot where it both looks boring and is horrible in battle, even worse in battle than non-Mega Pidgeot. Noctowl probably would be forgettable if it wasn't for Ash's iconic Shiny Noctowl in the anime.
>>59548722yeah i'd agree with unfezant. it just really doesn't have anything going for it. not even it being ash's pokemon in the anime saved it. and it's kinda ironic being that it's the most unique among the regional birds for having a massive gender difference to display sexual dimorphism. kinda shocking how you can be completely unique yet still completely forgettable
>>59548722>>59548742Unpopular opinion but I think Unfezant (or the male version at least) looks better than Pidgeot, Fearow, and Noctowl. The only reason those three are so beloved is because they were the very first birds because I swear they're just SO FUCKING PLAIN. Just basic ass brown birds. If they were introduced today people would (rightfully so) accuse them of being plain as shit. Unfezant is no huge prize either but I think it looks way more interesting than those guys.
>>59548791i mean there have been some "basic and plain" pokemon introduced in recent gens that have been pretty well liked. such as lechonk and wooloo. so it's possible they would've been too
