Caterpie is the One True God in real life, not in the fake Pokémon universe that gamefreak pushes on its players. Pokémon are a real thing and a real phenomenon and Caterpie Canonically in real life evolves into Rayquaza (which reduces its power) and then mega Rayquaza, and between these forms at will, which is why even the lying and eceiving japs cannot make Rayquaza a standard Mega, because it’s Grand Supremacy prevents them from doing this. This also Means thatCaterpie, aka Mega Rayquaza does not have a true Mega Evolution and should be getting one as it will it.

A theory to explain the necessity for Fug's power scaling in ORAS Hoenn's past, given the oddity that base form Fug was already able to take on both Groudon and Kyogre in their Primal Forms, making his Mega form redundant or OP.

In short, something makes Fug chronically weaker over time ("cancer"), and Fug's first Mega Evolution and later the meteorite in Brendan's / May's inventory so happens to temporarily restore its powers ("chemotherapy").
