interesting
>>Do you think PMD should add more completely original moves like wide slash? If so, give some ideas.
dunno if cheating but pmdo has like cone-shaped moves so a move that takes advantage of a sputtering range like that would be neat. i like the idea of shorter range moves like quick attack being useful without being awful, my idea for a move would be along those veins
>>What scene is your favorite in any of the PMD games?
the scene in the post game of explorers where the partner confesses after cresselia comes along and wigglytuff comforts your team has always tugged at my heart
>>Why do you think Pokémon can only evolve in specific places like luminous cave?
it's my headcanon that those spots awaken a sort of spiritual light that can't be ascertained from too many other places. caves are underground, and springs well from underground, etc etc
tree of life being self explanatory
>>
How common are teams that are either thieves, treasure hunters, or just want to be rich? I was gonna make one with Venusaur, Meowth, and Gengar.

>What do you think of PMD giving moves original effects, like Hypnosis in later games?
On the player side its kinna whatever, but on the enemy side it helps foes be more than blobs with stats and typings. I specially strenght in DX, how it can yeet enemies to you. And Rock Smash breaking walls is an OG.
Sometimes though the now effect doesn't shine cos it's on bad pokemon, such as with Spalsh now hopping to the back of your line.
>Do you think PMD should add more completely original moves like wide slash? If so, give some ideas.
I don't think PMD is gonna add more typeless damage moves, right after Explorers with Wide Slash, they capped the regular attack's damage to 5 (ignore any attacks from Bittercold/Void Shadows/Dark Matter that may be typeless).
Original move effects can always be added to moves that are kinna whatever, like rock smash, hypnosis, etc.
>What scene is your favorite in any of the PMD games?
I may say the scene of the partner jumping into the air to reach the Tree of Life in super just because I find it extremely funny and it's ultimaately pointless (the music's also pretty good)
>Why do you think Pokémon can only evolve in specific places like luminous cave?
The DS and GBA would shit their pants if they had to load the sprite of the evolved mon into memory in floors with big pools of enemy pokemon,, they'd have to be loaded before hand, and that'd be too much memory taken up.
The first two games even have unused enemy evolution mecanics, but it requires the mon to have its evolution loaded into that floor's enemy pool (even if they have a 0% spawn chance).

I guess they wanted a female in the main cast and chikorita fits that better than bulbasaur? Still a weird choice, especially since they didn't use any gen 3 starters at all when they could've shilled gen 3 there.
>>
Reason why they had Squirtle and Charmander in the anime special is because Squirtle is the stand in for Blue rescue team and Charmander the one for red rescue team (They are both to the front of their respective box art, and the game icon for Blue Rescue Team on the DS is Squirtle)
It wasn't about the Kanto trio. The probably just wanted to round out Fire and Water with Grass, and Chikorita had the edge of being the girly one.

Super Mystery Dungeon and its consequences have been a disaster for the PMD fanbase.
>>

Super can't explain the sparkle dog Vulpix and Shinx OCs.

>>

>>
>>59571405
Looking with Skytemple, P.Dialga is assigned talk group 255, but there are only 68, so it will either default to error mesages, a game crash or some default talk group.
If it were like pink Celebi, a relatively usable mon who has a talk group of her own, you can see there are dummy mesages for situations were pink Celebi wouldn't be presesnt, such as been talked to in the cafe.

I wish PMD would have moves with more unique attack ranges like how PMDO does but I get that they want to keep it simple so you're not always jumpscared by a move with a range you couldn't expect (though they allowed Earth Power to be a thing so maybe they don't actually think about balancing in that way.)
>>
>>59547634
Weird idea for a story where a trainer and their Pokémon are transported to the PMD world, but the trainer is turned into a Pokémon.
>>
>>59573314
Both PMD and Clover Guild stories (regardless if you were suggesting it as a Clover Story or not) are consitant with the human world being the real world, with no Pokémon.

There are exceptions in Clover Guild with characters like Macom, but that's so out there that it can only be interpreted as a creative liverty, as suposed to a mainline Pokémon trainer being transported to PMD, which reads more as a fundamental missunderstanding of PMD. Even if there's potential on the trainer and mon being now able to talk to eachother, i'd dismiss it over that.

Humans don't come from mainline in PMD.
>>
>>59573370
They come from some variation or alternate universe of mainline, though. The MC always knows that he's become a pokemon which means he knows what a pokemon even is.
>>
>>59573379
Nigga you also know pokemon.
>>
>>59573415
We know of pokemon existing as a game franchise. The MCs in the games never refer to it as such.
>>
>>59573336
This is explicitly wrong in the case of Clover Guild stories; Mandibuzz was a trainer.

The humans at the guild are ment to be 4chan users, and last I checked, they don't have 4chan in mainline pokemon.

No, look at Rescue Team. Gengar was a Pokemon Trainer.
>>

Gengar was also a human when he met with Ninetales, which must have likely been in the PMD world (unless you want to argue that both Ninetales and Gardevoir's lingering spirit both moved to PMD, which is fucking retarded).

Rescue Team's treatment of humans, and how there may be/ have been humans out there is dumb, hardly explained and not consistant with future games, so pretty much redconed.

Also why tf did you spoiler Gengar's name in the pmd general?
>>
Sharing my thoughts on some recent stories. First, the Jolteon intro from last thread:
>>59533443
>https://rentry.co/hmz69r8w
The writing feels somewhat bland at times, like it lacks description and is paced too quickly. There are also a lot of typos. You should always start a new paragraph when a new character speaks, and sometimes, it can be a good idea to start new paragraphs even if there's only 1 character talking (particularly if enough narration happens between quotes). Many paragraphs involving quotes currently feel like walls of text.

On the bright side, I like how you give Maze a unique backstory and incorporate his traumatic experiences into his character. Although he feels a bit too strong and skilled with his new body/abilities so soon after becoming a Pokemon, I like the scene where his trauma empowers him and he has to be stopped before he goes too far. Despite using some run-on sentences in that scene, you make it feel intense and include some nice descriptions in there. I think it's a good setup for his character arc and future stories.

Next, some Vaporeanon stories:
>Mulch (https://rentry.org/CG-MULCH)
Doesn't surprise me that Pirth would devour mulch of all things. Not too much to say about this story, but it was silly and relatively enjoyable to read, and I like the visual you created. Plenty of people have had to deal with a troublesome deer eating their garden, but it's a funny twist when the deer can talk and is also your coworker.

>Rivals (https://rentry.org/CG-Rivals)
Pretty good combat and descriptions, with some creative portrayals of moves and some fun back-and-forth. I was generally able to envision the fight in my mind. The ending conversation seems a bit messy, though, like it has leftover parts from a previous draft.
>>
>>59574334
>A Face to Face (https://rentry.co/CG-F2F)
Adorable art by Petal, as always. It feels like we're missing a story or two depicting how Shelby and Pirth became so close to each other, making this feel like a payoff to something that was never built up before. Even so, their bond was very cute and depicted well. Nice portrayals of their actions and emotions. The way that he can hear her smile just by listening to her voice is a cute detail, and going to an echo spot was a smart idea for a fun trip for him. It's interesting to hear what he thinks about his own voice, and to get some more background on him and his sister. Also, the discussion of color at the end was nice. Overall, it's an enjoyable, comfy read.

And now for 2 chapters from the guild's other fish:
There are various typos scattered around that make it hard to understand some sentences. And you should start using the correct format for dialogue instead of typing a colon and then starting a new line.
I appreciate the shift from Shirley's typical voice to a somewhat more formal style of writing. Not a complete shift, but it's certainly an improvement over his normal voice, which can be grating. Ruby also feels a lot different compared to her original portrayal, but it makes sense for her to get serious now. I'm still curious about all the mysteries around her.
The depiction of the dungeon was quite cool. Didn't expect things to veer into straight-up horror, but it was effective. Nice creative ideas for the scenery and the boss battle. The fight felt pretty intense and stressful, and it was cool to see everyone working together to battle it. I wish the artifact was something different, though, since it kinda kills the vibe. Still, I think this story is definitely getting better since the first two entries.

Lastly, the latest Toge story:
The opening line catches the audience's attention and gets them invested, though I wish we had more description of the problem to show how dire the stakes are. The way Toge encounters Delphox is a bit too contrived, but she's a cool character overall, and her use of magic and fire feels unique. And the twist involving her was a neat surprise, although certainly less impactful than a certain other story where a similar twist was used. It's interesting to see Dewott acting deferential to another character for a change. Their interactions were amusing. I wish we saw more of Dewott's inner conflict before he decides to embark, though.

In the Toge branch, the way Macom conveniently has a detailed map is another thing that feels contrived, and I wish we had more explanation of how Toge recognizes Luka as a fellow outlaw. The recruitment scenes feel lopsided and make the pacing weird: the first is good (and I particularly liked Gill's portrayal), but the second is too short and the third is too long. That said, the plan is solid and creative, and I really like how you incorporate all the characters' unique abilities. The usage of the berries is particularly clever. The heist was fun to read, and the ending was quite cozy.

In the Dewott branch, I like the design of the forest and the dark tone you created. I didn't expect you to go that far, honestly... The reveal was not a surprising twist, but I guess it's good dramatic irony since Dewott knows less about the subject than the audience. I liked how Dewott and Lunette hit it off so well. That was nice and cute. The villain was kinda flat, but the fight scene had an interesting gimmick and a good conclusion. And I liked the scene where Dewott sorta hallucinates that Lunette is Toge.

I'm always interested in seeing more of the Dewott/Toge dynamic, and now I'm also curious about what you'll do with this Delphox, so good luck with your future writing.

Humans do come into the Pokémon world from other worlds, literally all the protagonists are like this except the Explorers protag who is from the future, and unless I'm misremembering, the Super protag is the reincarnation of a human from the past. The others are explicitly from other worlds. Literally a part of Gates to Infinity's post game is allowing the player character to come between the two worlds. It's never stated what type of world the player came from, so you can easily fill in some blanks.
>>
>>59573379
You could argue they're from a world where Pokémon is a popular franchise, like a version of our world.

But I'm glad you enjoyed it, I'll try to get a new story out this or next month. Funny how multiple recent stories included unrelated Phantumps, guess it's just a popular mon.

If you're talking about the new Torneko MD 1 "remaster", it's not done by Chunsoft, so you don't have to worry about Chunsoft doing something like that for PMD.
(It's also a shit remaster, don't buy it, it runs worse than the original SNES game with way more delay between actions. Don't fall for the "support it to get a new PMD" meme, if you really want to do that just get Shiren 6 instead.)
>>

We need to get off of magma. It sucks so bad. Is there any other drawboard website?
>>
>>59586445
there are firefox and chromium browser extensions that make magma not suck so hard, at the very least it blocks the anti-adblock and banner ads
>>
>>59586445
Theoretically yes, but they have problems as well. Might still be worth it.
>>
>>59586032
I'm always kinda surprised PMD never really references the other MD games, the most it did is with some items and the vacuum cut and wide slash moves, and the shopkeepers being stupidly strong (though I think that's stolen from a roguelike that predates MD1). EOMD referenced Shiren by having one of the classes be Wanderer, wonder if Chunsoft tried to sneak in some Shiren references before and Gamefreak/TPC said no.
>>
I've taken a cursory glance at two that people recommend. Flockmod and Drawpile. I haven't tested these myself and don't know how they'll hold up with ten or so people hanging out in the chat and drawing.

https://drawpile.net/
Open source software. Has a web client and a desktop client which would be nice. Very different interface from Magma. A bunch of different tools and apparently you can do animation, though I have not tested this myself. Drawboards can be downloaded as a few different image formats and .psd files. Has a text chat and allows anonymous users to connect. Also profile pictures.

https://flockmod.com/
Literally all of the above from Drawpile, but I don't believe there are any profile pictures. Much more familiar layout for people migrating from Magma. Also a gallery feature where you can click on someone's profile (if they have one) and look at some of their other drawings. Very cozy, very casual, like it a lot. Flockmod does require the desktop app for pen pressure, and I don't see a linux version available so that might be a barrier for some people. I know there's a couple anons running it in this thread.

Neither of them have ads. Both of them let you host from their websites. There are also permissions managers for both programs, so it should be possible to restrict random people from joining, taking layers and fucking up the board (Though I have not been able to test it myself. Please do not just take my word for it). I think one small issue for FlockMod might be that room names are public. Passwords can be put on them to prevent random people from joining I guess.

I really think either of these could work and it would definitely help me regain some interest. The advertisements and poor performance of Magma have made it absolute hell to use lately and we shouldn't have to rely on shoddy extensions from furries who blogpost about their fantasies of becoming home renovators for some reason.
>>
I've always wanted to explore the human side of PMD. Specifically human ruins. I know there was a friend zone that was a factory or something.
>>
>>59587337
Flockmod does have pen pressure support in browser. I hopped in a public board myself in the browser and it worked fine. I couldn't figure out what the hotkey for the undo button was, though. I'll try drawpile tomorrow and see how it is.

What do you guys think of Pokémon wearing clothes?
Like not just bandanas and badges, nut like full blown suits and shit
>>
>>59587481
The only pass I could give if it was a cloak or some kind of winterwear for going to a very cold area. Wearing pants and ties is retarded.
>>
>>59587481
I prefer they don't, beyond the bandanas and scarfs and badges and such.
Primarily I like the naked look, for normal and less normal reasons. But it's also hard for me to believe a vulpix is going to be buttoning up and down that suit every time he's got to pee, and taking it on and off in general would be a real pain.
For bipeds or psychics though i can suspend my disbelief a lot better. But again, I really doubt they would like to wear clothes over their fur unless it's really, really cold wherever it is.
>>
>>59587481
It's been done tastefully before. I like the aesthetic if it's done well.

Lorewise, personally, it comes down to logistics. Like, how is a pokemon taking these clothes on and off? In Unite, it's holographic so whatever, but PMD is using real fabric and I don't see a quadrupleb wearing something like this practically unless someone else dressed them up.
>>
I think simple clothing, like boots and cloaks in cold conditions work. Small accessories too.
>>
>>59587506
anything a quadruped could easily put on and off by themselves and/or serves a purpose can be very reasonable. boots seem pretty cute and good for this.
>small accessories too
i imagine fashion would be best expressed in simple things like necklaces or bracelets rather than whole suits or dresses, i'm sure there's no shortage of shiny stones around

>>

I don't mind if it's done tastefully, it can set civilized pokemon apart from ferals, but there's a fine line that shouldn't be crossed.
Full suits don't fit the setting, but any utility clothing, bags, boots for rough climbing, harnesses for quadrupeds, etc can make sense.

Remember what cartoon character said. Disregard all historical precedent of people wearing cloaks because they were cheap and easy to make, and kept people dry and warm
>>
>>59588970
Edna's point was that wearing capes when doing superhero work is dangerous because it can get caught on stuff. Same is true for cloaks. People would take off their cloaks before fighting. But they're useful outside of combat.
>>
>>59589029
Taking off a cloak before fighting is the obvious choice from an aesthetic point of view, as well.
>>
>>59589037
Only if there's enough wind that it flutters off you dramatically, otherwise it's cooler to keep wearing it.

Finally got around to playing the 3ds entries after God knows how long. Really liked many of the ideas both games tried to incorporate, especially GtI with the entire Paradise facilities, move levels, Companion Mode and some other small things like party exp. The cast was better than what Rescue Team and Explorers had. But they really went out of their way to make the game feel like a grindy slog because of the 1 mission at a time. The small roster (didn't even have all gen 5 mons) and postgame are baffling too. This one is more in need of a remake than EoS, honestly, but from this alone it might be my second favorite not counting the DX remake.

Super was weird. I liked the looplet and Connection Orb mechanics, but the first 6 or so hours of the game were painful. Both in terms of narrative and gameplay wise (had to rely on items quite a bit). After that entire school part, it's pretty decent, but I wasn't feeling this one as much as the others because it doesn't give you as much free time as the other PMD to do other missions outside of the story. And the way the Connection Orb works does make the game finite. Still decent, but definitely my least favourite.

Yes, I really want to know which dumbass wrote the school section for Super because it would’ve been so easy to just do an exploration academy or something focused like that. If you’re going to focus on a school segment, pull a Rangers: Shadow of Almia, not whatever the fuck they did.
Super felt like one of those 2010 fanfic.net stories from start to end. It’s in dire need of a rewrite for tolerability.

Using items isn't inherently bad, but Super's method of doing it strongholds the player into having to do it as the only viable option.
>enemies have bloated HP/attacking stats meaning all encounters result in a net loss for the player at best, or one-shot deaths at worst
>despite explaining you can regular attack to get enemies to engage you in the tutorial, the game lies and enemies will refuse to approach altogether if they have any form of range, giving standard high PP attacks very little room to actually be worth using.
>game "incentivizes" items by making them broken, stackable solutions to the above problems, like 40 line-range Petrify/Petrify-and-Warp
What this results in is a game where the strategy is to simply disengage in all combat because the EXP and potential growths aren't worth the constant resource drain from trying to play the game properly, and to instead use Petrify Wands to oneshot enemies so that they don't oneshot you. There's very little POKEMON involved in the POKEMON Mystery Dungeon game.
Also would make the argument that the post-school narrative is far shittier than what's in the school.
>establish a cast of characters for half the game
>throw it all away for SWIRLIX ATE THE FOOD PLEASE LAUGH
Literally the only character who had a pulse and wasn't a glorified plot device or filler was Archen. There's nobody to give a shit about, and combined with the constant attempts at rehashing Explorers and Gates' plot beats but failing at what made any of those good, and you have a schizophrenic fanfic.

It is interesting how of all of the major Pokemon spinoffs, the only two (at least I could notice myself) that are referenced in that video are Mystery Dungeon and Pokopia. No Pokken and no Conquest, which are the only other major Pokemon crossovers I can think of. I wonder if TPC has to get permission from Chunsoft whenever they use materials from PMD, or if they have some deal where they're allowed to use whatever they want in whatever promotional material.

PMD needs to bring back partner bullying.
Always found it weird Explorers only had like one time you could bully the partner like Rescue Team, when it'd honestly be even more fitting there to bully him since the explorers partner is a coward.

How is it not gore if he is dying?
>>

He's not falling, he's drowning. It still isn't gore, though
>>
It's only gore if it comes from the goré region of france. otherwise it's just sparkling violence.

I really do hope we get a Gates remake before an explorers remake. Gates could be one of the best PMD games if it just had pretty much everything involving its gameplay fixed, I wonder how badly the game was rushed for so many bad gameplay decisions to get through.

i wouldnt be too upset with a gates remake. it would be very difficult for them to make the graphics worse than gates already is, like how they ruined the art style of rescue team in DX, and if they kept most of the ideas it had and just made it more enjoyable to play that would be really nice. from what i've seen they generally did that in DX? but shouting the move names and that sort of thing is really questionable, no way to easily view the turn events is annoying. would also be fun to play gates with a bit more of a selection for yourself and partner than what gates had, though it absolutely started my love for oshawott and snivy
