>>59548133if you buy into the narrative, it’s to explore and catalog things. There’s only ever 100-200 pokemon max that anyone will actually give a crap about on a practical level. I don’t expect anyone is supposed to genuinely keep and care for every single pokemon they caught to fill the dex, and most pokemon only exist for that anyway, dex filler (regional variations on dex filler for worldbuilding purposes, and maybe autism bait so people with niche interests have a pokemon they alone obsess over).
