For these specific examples for Hydreigon its current eyes make it look more mysterious and sinister meanwhile the triangle eyes just make it look like a generic monster. Then for Haxorus it works a little bit better but it doesn't beat the tiny bloodshot eye that makes it look fierce and furious.
