its been like a week since this but i figured id reply
how do you really game encounters for it? I guess it didn't seem like you really can to me but if I'm able to do that I'd be willing to restart the run.
Cuz I DO wanna get something I want but I know that's also not really in the spirit of a nuzlocke even if i think it'd be more fun.

Anyways having level limits, no items, and limited heals has been fun so far.
>>
Made a few oopsies.
I severely underestimated how much damage Archie's Houndoom could do to Mesmer the Politoad. I don't think I've ever even risked a loss against him before, so that really took me by surprise. Got burned on switch in and the burn damage just barely survived two Faint Attacks, and since he still had his koffing in the back they went down together.
Then for Clair I thought I was being so clever. Mustard took out Gyarados with a Thunder, then Kingdra came out immediately afterwards. I decided to try and Perish Song it with Nessie, then switch into Alfie to bait a Hydro Pump, switch back and heal Nessie so he'd be at full health for the Dragonairs. It worked the first time, and Nessie killed both Dragonairs. When Kingdra came out again I was pretty sure I couldn't two-shot it with Ice Beam (I was right), and afraid it would land a crit if I had to wear down Clair's two potions so I tried the Perish Song strat again, hoping to save turns. Unfortunately this time it crit Alfie so it ended up being pointless. Not much I could've done to prevent that though, only one who might've survived that at that point was Scizor and I wasn't randomly switching to them.
Goodyear the Phanpy will be taking her spot, so I finally have some defense against electric types for the future (and to keep my teamwide immunities going). Next up, time to fight the Kimono Girls and do some legendary stuff before we tackle the E4.

>>59569038
great job! Well done not getting any casualties!

>>59566440
RIP boots. Fun to see you're playing with tera types. Funny how plenty of RU mons in your roster seem generally really good for playthroughs.

>>59566367
True about the Dragonites, it is a problem when you need to switch an ice or water type into them tho.
Also Water is just one of those types you always have plenty of options for, since there's plenty and always a few mandatory water routes.
>>
>>59571423
I'm gonna use Platinum as my example here. Under the og rules, you're unlikely to get Gible and outright not getting Feebas, two mons that evolve into very good team members. Dupes clause makes it a bit easier for both but you can still end up missing them thanks to encounter rng. Being able to pick which encounter you want boils down to how much restraint the player wants to show instead of working with what you're given, even gaining new appreciation for lines you wouldn't have otherwise had.
Again, in spite of what i've said, this is ultimately your run, so don't feel you have to reset, you even said you're having fun, and that's what it comes down to.

This morning I just began my Pokemon Platinum nuzlocke. Was gonna begin yesterday but didn't have time.

Here's my current team.

>Turtwig
>Budew
>Starly
>Shinx
>Kricketot (useless)
>Zubat

Oh and another Zubat I caught in the PC.

Pokemon Platinum is my favourite Pokemon game so I'm happy to be doing a nuzlocke of it again. As for how I beat gym leader Roark, it went like this.

I had Budew use Absorb to take out both Geodude and Onix, then Budew learned Mega Drain and I had Budew paralys Cranidos with Stun Spore and use Mega Drain, Headbutt nearly killed Budew and I was prepared because Turtwig was gonna be my backup pokemon while Budew would be the sacrifice but I won with no casualties.

I think my nuzlocke is going fine so far. Any advice?

Rough couple of losses, but at least after the Kimono Girls things will get easier. The grind is gonna take a bit, hope you have a good pokegear rematch spot.

Phew, okay, Rock Tunnel is always such a nailbiter in a nuzlocke, even with a team as stacked as this. I made it through with no losses and now I'm chilling at Lavender Town. I still haven't healed at the Pokemon center and plan on teleporting back to the center in front of Rock Tunnel after beating Erika, getting, the Silph Scope, and receiving the Pokemon Flute. It's quite the wait until a center heal, but I think with marts I'll be okay.

I guess I'll use this opportunity to ask an open-ended question that I've had on my mind for a while now in my nuzlocke. Do you guys consider it cheating or too easy to use a wiki to see all the trainers teams on a route or dungeon beforehand? Like, I've been doing so and did with Rock Tunnel here since I was really afraid of the Hiker's exploding Geodudes but couldn't remember which ones had self-destructing pokes. It definitely made the whole thing way easier and I feel a little bit dirty about it. Not sure, I want to pull back on using it for every new area and fight, but the fear of losing mons to something just because I forgot a rogue scary poke somewhere is keeping me from it. Should I stop being a wuss about this and continue the rest of it as blind as possible with just memory to go off, or is having a guide in front of you just to see the data beforehand a little to much of a convenience?
>>
>>59575960
tl;dr on the question part: Do you consider the use of guides (bulbapedia/serebii) while going through routes for trainer pokemon cheating/in bad faith to a nuzlocke challenge? Should I do so going forward or go as blind as possible. (I know its ultimately up to me, but that's not what I'm asking...)
>>
>>59575982
Not really. If that's the case then it's cheating to know what pokemon the trainer uses. For example I know the trainer before Eterna Forest has a Piplup.

Here's my progress today. My current team is this.

>Grotle
>Staravia
>Luxio
>Budew
>Meditite
>Geodude

I put Kricketot in the reserves and I also caught a Buneary in Eterna Forest which is also in the reserves. I've decided that for areas where the game forces you to team up with someone don't count for encounters until after they are no longer teamed up with you because you always encounter two pokemon and there's a good chance your teammate could kill a pokemon your trying to catch. Eterna Forest makes you team up with Cheryl so much waited until I was done with her.

I unfortunately lost my two Zubats, they where sacrifices and I think I'm done with Zubats for now since I had a Crobat on my last Johto and Hoenn team. I have not beaten Gardenia yet but I beat Team Galactics Commanders Mars using Turtwig who had learned Rock Smash which sucks because I don't like teaching starter pokemon HMs but I had no choice.

Any advice for Gardenia?
>>
>>59576322
Gardenia shouldn't be a problem with Staravia. Does Luxio have Intimidate? Double Intimidate is pretty strong and you'll probably need it for Jupiter and her Skuntank.
>>
>>59577317
Nope, Luxio has Rivalry and your right that I should be mote worried about Jupiter than Gardenia.
>>
>>59575982
I personally consider it fine, but my own playstyle is extreme caution. It's not so far removed from looking up gym leader teams, but i can see someone preferring to be surprised on routes.
>>
>>59577726
That's a shame, but Luxray will still be good on your team. Hopefully you get past Jupiter without too much trouble.
>>
Alright I'm too tired to play today so I won't be updating today obviously. But I have a fun story to share.

I went to a Italian restaurant near me and a tiny little Finch somehow entered. It was so cute and it finally left.

TLDR: SP works… mostly. I’d love to do some runs but I don’t have time.

in-depth blog: I cleaned the power switch with 90% isopropyl alcohol, as recommended, but it didn’t work at all the first time. (pic related: I couldn’t get it 100% clean but I got a lot of the grime out.) I had to bend the metal pin under the plastic switch to make sure it made contact with the metal plating. Then, flux somehow got into the power switch and made it very difficult to flip. I tried soaking the switch with more 90% isopropyl alcohol so it would seep in, and kept moving the switch back and forth. Now the issue is that it doesn’t turn on for the first few attempts, and sometimes turns on but not if the power switch is flipped all the way? It usually works normally when it finally turns on, but today it randomly reset on me and I lost a lot of progress in a non-Pokémon game Megaman Zero 4. I could do LeafGreen attempts but I’d rather Sapphire, which I’ve yet to replace the battery for. I don’t have much free time as I’m going to be super busy because I’m basically moving out… probably. (If you’re wondering why I can play games but not change the battery, it’s because I can only solder during a select few hours due to reasons.)

Beat Gardenia and Jupiter today.

Here's my current team.

>Grotle
>Luxio
>Staravia
>Geodude
>Ponyta
>Gible

I also caught a Ghastly today but I lost Meditite and Buneary.

Gardenia was easy, I just had Staravia take out her first two pokemon with Wing Attack but then I was a little bit scared of what her Roserade would do so I sacrificed Meditite just to heal Staravia.

Against Jupiter, I used Geodude first and used Magnitude to deal some damage to her Skuntank but Night Slash nearly killed, I was gonna send out Staravia first to intimidate and lower it's attack but I wanted Staravia to attack first so I sacrificed Buneary. Staravia did managed to take out Skuntank though.

Alright with that out of the way, any advice for Fantina?

Fuck this game. I've lost 6 pokemon today.

My current team is this.

>Grotle
>Luxio
>Ghastly
>Togepi Egg
>Eevee
>Bibarel

So unfortunately I lost Staravia to a trainers Misdreavious who used Pain Split and then Psybeam which ruined things because I planned on using Staravia against Fantina.

Then I beat Fantina but here's how it went. My plan was to have Staravia and Luxio do the job, Staravia being immune and the highest level pokemon while Luxios Bite would also help. Because I lost Staravia however, I had to resort to just using Luxio. First I had Luxio use Bite on Duskull to which Duskull used Future Sight, I couldn't afford to have Luxio take damage so I switched out to Budew who took tried to use Stun Spore, missed, got hit with a Future Sight, Shadow Sneak and of course burnt from Will O Wisp killing Budew. Luxio cake out though and finished off Duskull. Then came Mismagius and this is we're things got fucked. Luxio use Bite but it was difficult as Confuse Ray happened and I had no way to heal confusion aside from switch, I kept switching to multiple pokemon to heal Luxio with potions and it's confusion, during this time I lost both Gible, Geodude and Ponyta but those sacrifices had to be made, then I switched to Grotle thinking that was gonna have to be sacrificed too or that I was just gonna lose my nuzlocke but Grotle managed to survive and used Bite a few times to eventually kill Mismagius. Haunter was easy as Bite from Grotle dealt with it but I've lost four pokemon in one battle all because Staravia died before.

I also lost Kricketot if that matters.

Any advice for Maylene? And how can I fix my team with some good pokemon to catch?
>>
>>59583641
Ouch. They made Fantina super rough in Platinum, but the encounters open up after her at least. If you haven't gotten either encounter around Mt. Coronet you should be able to get Bronzor easily, and if it has Levitate it'll be one of the best tanks you can get. Polygon is in Veilstone, and Houndour is before the resort. Grotle evolves at level 32, which is Maylene's level cap, but Gastly will probably get one shot thanks to its low defenses.
>>
>>59583641
My condolences.
Buy Reflect at the Pokemart if you can fit it in. Or use Charm from Togetic. A Wingull evolves into Pelliper at lev 25, which would be great against fighting gym with rock moves.
>>
>>59584759
>>59584851
Thanks. I cannot catch a Bronzor at Mt Coronet but I do have some other chances. There's Zubat at Celestic Tower and I could get Wingull. I'm thinking of completing the entire routes that go from Hearthome City to Veilstone city, then Pastoria city and then back to Hearthome if you know what I mean before the fighting type gym. Luckily enough I'm not limited to level caps. Other possibilities is Girafarig I guess. We will have to see what I get.
