I occasionally think about the biology of pokemon. Particularly evolution.Evolution is not caused by age, its a stress response. The base form of a pokemon is it's natural form, the only reason something like a Sandslash would appear in nature is if a Sandshrew's environment is so hostile that it is required to undergo a sudden, physical change to keep up.

Ash's Pidgeot left to protect the flock, and protection requires strength thus the necessity to evolve. The only Pokemon I would say are exceptions are very weak mons like some bug types. Beedrill and Butterfree probably naturally go through evolution in their life cycle, instead of just matching heavy competitionBut I still think there's a counter argument in here somewhere

All of them bare these boundless levels of elemental powers too throughout their forms, they're all effectively like conduits for cosmic energies.
