Importing my 12 notable Pokemon from Emerald including my shiny Spinda now. My phat DS can't read Heart Gold which is concerning but Platinum still works so gotta deal with the timer.

As someone who just did this for the fuck of it on OG GBA right before the Bank shutdown was announced, I am painfully aware of how long it takes to do this. If you can manage it, building up a living Hoenn Pokedex in Ruby or Sapphire makes the Emerald completions for the Johto starters that much quicker.

I'm just now getting back into pokemon after years of not touching it and just realized they're shutting down bank. I stopped playing after Gen 6 and I never really cared about the subsequent games, but I always enjoyed catching and breading mons across generations and have a bunch of shinies on Gens 3-5 that I've held onto for years. pretty straightforward, use FBI or whatever preferred method to install the Checkpoint and PKSM apps onto your system. Pretty self explanatory for the most part but probably worth checking out their discord server (i know)
PKSM is basically bank but an offline storage that sits on your SD card instead of the cloud. with that you can far more pokemon than the 3000 max that bank allowed. the way it simplifies the transferring process is that you can access and modify the storage systems of any compatible save file it detects from gen 1 through 7. so for example instead of needing to move a shiny beldum from emerald up through each successive generation of games, you can just drop it into pksm bank and from there straight into gen 6 or 7 games for moving into bank. it can even handle gen 8 saves apparently but im not sure how those work, never done it.
i also recommend keeping pokemon in their original game, cloning their data up into storage and then clone that again into the newer games. unless youre turbo autistic about cloning shit then you can just move the original data up like you would using official tools

According to Serebii's event database, there were events in gen 5 (only in japan), that gave the gen 3 and 4 starters with their hidden abilities. Then, for B2W2, there were the gen 4 starters only in the US.
There was also the Torchic for XY in 2013. Other than that, currently, there's the Home gift of the gen 4 starters if you deposit a pokémon from BDSP but for the gen 3 starters, I think that's it.

So in theory if you get the hardware and connection, there's nothing stopping you from trading between the two games. DP trainers have fewer moves, since they don't have access to the expanded Plat/HGSS tutor moves (but you do via trading). The smaller move pool means they abuse evasion more. Also, Hypnosis has a higher accuracy in DP, but I'm unsure how much that impacts a Battle Tower run.

You need to heavily factor in evasiveness. My Gen4 team always had a No Guard Machamp. Something with Insomnia might be nice, but I wouldn't swap out No Guard guaranteed hits just for the chance to stay awake.

I've actually done heracross and can confirm it's one of the easier ones to manip. The trainer is very close to a save point in an area with no noise you're kinda just set once you get your frame advances down. Just have the confidence to make the attempts and the patience with yourself to fail a few times and you'll have that shiny buge. Honestly the nerve-wracking part is the SID manip but if you get the matching TID for it you should be fine but it can be hard to test because a lot of early game areas that trainers spawn in are pretty high noise

If I transfer a markless Pokemon to one of the switch games, will it get a mark? For example, if I transferred a Shellder from the OG FRLG, and then transferred it into SWSH or BDSP, will it get a Galar/Sinnoh mark? Movesets may change depending on Switch target game but Origin marks by themselves (if applicable) remain unchanged even if you move a mon through Gen 8 or 9. PokeShifter was the met location change.

Gen 3->4 transfers lose their met data for route/town encountered, changed to the generic Pal Park met location, and Gen 4->5 transfers lose met location again for the generic Pokeshifter designation.
All further migrations preserve the route/town caught on.

So I guess the question is, will FRLG transfers to Home preserve the original locations, or make it a different generic met spot. Or maybe they'll just make it Poke Shifter anyway to screw with everyone.

Ruh-oh. My Alpha Sapphire install seems corrupted. No funny business either, it's on a clean system with my paid eShop title. Tried redownloading the 1.4 update from the eshop, but still no luck. It crashes when entering a battle. It plays the environmental effect, like the rushing grass, then crashes before it can load the wild Pokemon model.

Yeah if TPC wants to make it so theres 0 differentiation (so people don't feel like they "missed out" on transferring), they'd need to retroactively give the FRLG mons from the OG carts a GBA mark, alongside putting the met location of those from the Port as "Poke Shifter".
