Hey /vp/, my MiSTer came in and I started adding party games to it, but then I remembered the actual battling in the Stadium games is pretty fun too.
Can you guys recommend me good ROM hacks of RBY and GSC that would expedite the team building process for Stadium 1 and Stadium 2? Things like being able to catch all 151/251 with little fuss, reusable TMs or cheap TMs, easy to get rare moves like Surf on Pikachu, and maybe even cheap rare candies and DV boosting items? Basically most of the conveniences the modern games have for competitive play but for Gen 1 and Gen 2.

To be clear, I'm not looking for big conversions that add types, change move mechanics or even implement special/physical split. Just something vanilla-ish to quickly make compatible teams for all the different Stadium formats.

At this point just use pkhex to edit your pokemon

Pokémon Crystal legacy and yellow legacy.

Or if you get really lazy…just cheat them in man.

Just cheat them in at that point with PKHex m8. There's no point in following some imaginary middle ground for games that old.

I appreciate that I could just PKhex them in yeah, but I'm not always gonna be at my computer or my own home when I'm playan and there's an appeal to me I can edit teams on the spot on the same device, either by launching them in the GBC core or the GB Tower and play at zooming speeds. It might be PKhex with more steps but at least I can get it all done natively with a controller.

Aside, I think I spoke too soon about Stadium 1. I forgot how degenerate Gen 1 is.

I got the hardware in pic rel specifically.
I think the only real disappointment I've had so far is that I'll have to settle for Bomberman '94 since there's currently no Saturn multitap without SNAC (adapters for using original peripherals so besides the Dualshock and memcards pictured you can have ports to hook up N64 pads, arcade trackballs etc. but modern USB controllers are fine too wireless and all).

There's also some arcade cores that I thought would've been done long ago but are actually still in development like for Midway hardware (e.g., UMK3, NBA Jam, NFL Blitz). Then again, my main games Ketsui and TAP weren't even considerations when I ordered mine back in May and now I can play both without issue so I can't complain.

Anyway, it's easier to both bring around and maintain than my Steam Deck and dock and it's 1/4 of the price they now go for so I can be less precious with it. The only tradeoff is losing Flycast, Dolphin, PCSX2 and modern PC games/ports that can be rendered at higher internal resolution, but I just play those at home.
I hope I answered your question.
