But at the time around 2014, since the manga exists to shill the games, maybe marketing didn't want "manga May" with weird claws to confuse the lil Timmy reader when he later buys the ORAS games and sees May without claws in it. (It's like how corporate also forced Yamamoto to stop making Crystal's Pokemon look too unique as individuals with their star motifs, so kids wouldn't confuse them for the official base Pokemon designs)But Sapphire's retractable claws could still have a Watsonian explanation. Because thematically, Sapphire was never fully domesticated, as much as the subhuman editors tried to make her seem like it. She never actually lost her claws, she just learned the appropriate times to put them away. Meanwhile it's Ruby who actually got domesticated and mindbroken, which is what his entire character after RS is about. (Sapphire is always proven that everything she stands for is objectively correct, while everything Ruby stood for was wrong, so now the only thing keeping his sanity intact is his relationship to his wildgirl gf)

In the RS arc Sapphire stripped and ran around naked sometimes, but it never overshadowed or took away from the plot, in fact it was always the least discussed part of RS (believe it or not) because there's just so much other shit going on. But later in the ORAS arc, a dozen gratuitous Sapphire ass shots are thrown in every 10 minutes as if to make up for a lack of substance (caused by bad pacing, because ORAS actually has a lot of substance just distributed poorly). And it's really distracting in ORAS since there's so much dead time with nothing happening, or when anything happens it's an annoying slog. Sapphire's ass shots are also drawn much lewder than anything from RS, partly because Sapphire grew up, but you also get the sense it's a bad story's desperate attempt to keep the reader's attention with lewds since it has nothing else going for it. Same goes for most other fanservice attempts in ORAS, where people actually complained about the KANTOOOO character cameos they'd begged for years to get.It's pathetic because RS would've still been popular even without Sapphire being naked, while ORAS is a widely hated arc despite all the ass shots.Also it's like how Absol only shows up to warn humans of incoming disasters, but then the humans mix correlation with causation and blame Absol itself for the disasters, shooting the messenger. Sapphire's ass was not the cause, but a warning sign for the manga's writing going to shit.

I understand that PokeSpe already has a smaller base of artists, but you'd think, had it succeeded, Sapphire art would have as much booty as AniMay art has giant tits because it would've become a lewd staple of her character. Instead, I feel like pointing out all the ORAS ass shots would be a revelation to a lot of PokeSpe degenerates even today.
