The design is top-notch. A snail made of lava with a stone shell is rad as shit. It's just too bad that it folds to any Ground or Water-type move, especially Water. And it's way too slow for way too long to actually stay on the field for long. It should've had Solid Rock.But I do appreciate both its regular abilities for helping me to hatch eggs faster. I'll usually send a Slugma or Magcargo, along with a Ditto and two Chatot, over to new files in preparation for whatever I want.

my favorite fire type. i don't think i spent much time thinking of him as a kid but magcargo's been at the center of my mind the last decade or so. Just finished a Black 1 run (mono-rock, cracked a new egg after every gym) and he got to run shop with Shell Smash (after a Yawn and maybe a second shell smash), felt incredible.

Lorewise, the Kanto bike routes are a really weird place to host the Slugma line. Should've had some grass patches on what's left of Cinnabar, or given Blaine's Seafoam Gym an extra room with some encounters.
