OP here, no, i dont like them, i think they are too theme park and with poor world design. also i find it hard to think to cool or beautiful places in modern games that fit the region in an organic way. For example, i think Area Zero is totally out of place and not credible

Compared to pre gen-5, true, but you don't know true theme park until you play the average Sonic or Kirby game. Alola has some genuinely beautiful location that wouldn't feel out of place if it was in gen 3 (The meadows, Ten Carat Hill, all of Poni Island, the Ultra Space).
Fuck, I could even make a case for Galar with Stow-on-Side, Circhester, and that big ass tree in Crown Tundra.

It is not even nostalgia, modern pokemon routes are just not as good as the old ones. Kalos is utterly unmemorable, pic related is apparently for Route 8 but for the life of me I have no idea where that is. Alola has great characters and plot but the region itself is just a backdrop most people don't bother to explore. The Switch games are plain ugly.
The first 5 Gens on the other hand, are full of memorable places. It is no wonder people gravitate towards them. Even random grass fields are instantly recognizable as pokemon locations when they are from these games.
