But this is supposed to be Indonesia. I would be a lot more forgiving if they just made straight up fantasy regions that had no relation to the real world so they could go wild with the biomes and it wouldn't feel so weird. Swamps can also be cold, much of Siberia or Canada is actually this horrid fucking permafrost marsh that partially melts in Summer and fills up with mosquitoes. The big icy mountain blocks the rain clouds, this creates a rain shadow, which creates the desert. On the other side of the big icy mountain, all the rain from those clouds falls, creating rivers and wetland that drains into a swamp.

The state of Nevada has Mount Charleston and the Mojave Desert, for example. Hawaii has Mauna Kea and the Kaʻū Desert.
