>i almost never open cards, and it would be nice to walk into a store and buy some 30th for it's regular price. I just want to open like 10 packs and enjoy it. I'm disgusted to what has happened to this TCG.
TPC, TPCi, and Ishihara have collectively made the game worse and I'm tired of pretending they haven't. From confirmed allegations they tried to poach trade secrets from MTG back in the day to buying Millennium Printing not only to strangle the competition but cull 830 employees earning poverty wages to also acquiring Excel Marketing (a distributor) that exclusively provides Pokemon cards to all the big box retailers in the USA while also strangling the entire competition that uses them to distribute cards and small toys. I'm upset not one YouTuber has talked about any of this and instead engage in shitflinging, whether they be scalpers, investors, collectors, or Pokemon fanatics. For fucks sake, Ishihara has even gotten on record 2 times now saying they're trying/thinking of a plan to capture the secondary market (probably offering an in house site like bricklink as Lego does) and it makes them upset that they currently cannot do that. While also admitting, yes they are completely ok with not printing enough cards and they are completely ok with smaller distributors choking small businesses that are game or card shops by paying above market rate for inventory

I hate to say it but Pokemon is like P. Diddy. And unlike his victims, everyone else buying their product, whether new or slabbed or second hand, are like people willingly wanting to drink their piss because they want to.

We are all shit eaters and Pokemon has a whole lot of shit to shit out. We have no one to blame but ourselves

I didn't expect a Yap attack for 120 damage. Bro I'm not reading all that shit lol. I just want to open some packs and scalpers are treating Pokemon like it's the only way for them to make a quick buck.
>>
>>59625161
You haven’t gotten to open any 30th yet?
>>
>>59625174
Not yet but I also haven't hounded targets or walmarts. Comic shops are fags that up charge on everything.
>>
>>59625179
I’ve gotten lucky at Target and Family Dollar once each. Have opened 9 packs in total but it’s really rough to find anything. Hope you get a chance to open some 30th friend. Remember that october 2nd the tins and other shit come out so you might have a chance then
>>
>>59625161
>I just want to open some packs and scalpers are treating Pokemon like it's the only way for them to make a quick buck.
He's saying the price gouging starts with distributors. Not the scalpers. A small store has to put it at a premium because their distributor jacked the price. Then comes the scalper that jacks the price again. TPC doesn't do anything, they sleep and make money. The reason most scalpers go to target and bigger ones is because they're willing to fight others just to get things at MSRP.

I buy singles online and I'm affected by this. Cards are more pricey than they should at mint or lightly played. Scalpers are simply part of the human centipede, not the orchestrator of it.
>>
Unless you live in a 3rd world shithole where allocation is low you have no excuse not to have ripped a single 30th celebrations pack at MSRP.
>>
>>59625231
There are only two big stores that hold pokemon in driving distance of me cause i live in the sticks. Both back door the product
>>
>>59625248
Are you in Virginia like me? I have stores I can go to, only like 15 minutes away. But I don't want to travel to 3-4 stores and not find anything. I should just call ahead.
>>
I don't want to have to line up, because it will make me feel like I'm flaying the skin off of my forearms and injecting AIDS directly into my eyeballs. But that may also be the only way I'll ever get any packs from this set.

Are there any good card sleeves that give cards a bit of a coloured border? Most of the ones I see for sale give a black border or don’t show what colour they are on the card side, I just think it would make pages look nice and cohesive to have coloured borders around my cards since they’re in a boring black vaultx binder.

The Chinese ones of pricier art rates are usually pretty good, but those look like the kind of fakes I’d see as a kid in the 90s-2000s.
>>
>>59625231
I am too employed to line up at 3AM, however I managed to snag a single tin on release in the UK, allocation here is genuinely bad and shops have no idea how to handle the massive influx. Some were amazing though and had scheduled mini releases during the day, allowing queuing half an hour early and giving out single product tickets.

>>59625955
I've bought one damaged EX card from XY era because a LCS was selling for like 1/6th the cost of NM but most of the damage is on the corners and back (I display in binder so back is much less relevant)

If the damage is from being folded in half or noticeable indents then the card is instantly dismissed.
I generally do "-dmg -damage -damaged -hp -heavily" on my ebay searches

The thing modern cards are missing, imho, is art like this. Art that's hand painted or pencilled will always have more character than "anime style digital art" #9001. Modern has some gorgeous art to be sure, but nothing that feels "real", y'know?

I don't know about the super expensive vintage grails but for modern, the graded market always favours English by a decent percentage because the market is global instead of concentraded to a smaller area.
top in this picture is PSA 10 EN, middle is PSA 10 German and bottom is AOG 10 German which is an alternative German grading service with decent popularity among Germans. basically the German TAG.

They really are. You pulled most of the ones I want.
How do they look in person as Ultra and Secret rares? I feel like the foiling would distract from the more simple art and frame.
It also sucks Summoned Skull didn't get a card in that set. Hopefully it means we're getting more manga cards later on.

>hey let your eyes focus on the individual cards
You're the only one who knows what he's talking about. It is such a waste when nice art is overstuffed in large pages to the point it's all a blur.
I still like 3x3 pages the most because those are the best middle ground to where you're still able to appreciate single cards if you concentrate and can make themed pages with art that complements the art next to it.

Those god awful Prime and Lvl cards from D/P era are starting to sell for obscene amounts. I dunno man, Pokémon is just a different breed
>>
>>59630310
That's why I've been trying to get my hands on gen 4 cards, sadly, a lot of the reverse holos are scratched to hell and back so it's hard to find them.
>>
>>59630310
It is literally because of invooost fags shitting everything up. People think any high-rarity card is worth something, meanwhile idiots buy up the cheap (id est, shitty) cards because they get FOMO or believe theirs will be the next to moon. I'm convinced Pokemon Prime specifically are a pump scheme, they were dirt cheap because they're boring as hell, but then when Gen 3 cards started to take off someone probably bought all the Primes he could find and started listing them at obscene prices.
Lvl X are ugly but at least I get the desirability, as they are the ex-style cards for Gen 4 mons. I think they suck compared to Pokemon EX but there's plenty of Pokemon that only ever got a Lvl X.
>>
when tf did arceus lvl x become a 150 dollar card? guess im rich bros
>>
Gen 4 cards are legit some of the ugliest I can think of, at least for the rares. HGSS sets had good normal art and the LEGENDs are cool when you get them all, but Level X, Prime, just ugly. And DPPt cards had mostly trash art until they introduced SP, and even then those Level Xs were gross.
BW had a lot of really gross digital paint art, but the rares were always fire and 5ban was actually pretty good then.
>>
>here's your $200 card bro
KEK I own this ugly fuck too, I should probably sell it now.
There are like 5 of these niggers with acceptable art but that's it.

>>
Lv. X was a great mechanic. The cards could have been good if they'd just let Ueda do all of them, Shizurow was just not good at it. These are all the ones imho that have nice art, most are drawn by Ryo Ueda (who also happens to have been the only good artist on Pokemon-ex in Gen 3).
>>
>>59630340
>$200
Maybe for a graded 10. Look at TCGPlayer, the claimed market price is $131.66 and yet the 5 that actually sold in the last threr months were $80 or less. Like most things in the """market""" it's all speculative and shills.

>>59630357
Most of these cards are like that but that one is egregiously bad. An obsession with face-first, open mouthed characters, many looking off-model.

Wish I had picked up an Espeon Prime before the hike, but at least I got Umbreon for $50 back in the day.

I like Primes because they were part of what got me back into collecting. In 2010 I took my nephews to a card shop and randomly bought an HS Unleased pack while there because I like Enteii. The pack had the lower half of the Entei Suicune legend and Ursaring Prime. I couldn't believe what Pokemon cards had become.

Perfectly valid and soulful reason to like a card. I guess there probably were plenty of people who's first ultra rares were Primes after all. Unfortunately my first "premium" cards were Shining Charizard and Shining Raichu, I can never complete the set.
I have the promo Meganium Prime, wonder if it's worth something?

Masago is amazing, his heavy inking and use of shadows give all his Pokemon this edgy style that doesn't quite go too far into DeviantArt tier. Revelation Ho-oh is one of the most beautiful cards ever made, it's majestic and gritty, reverent and mysterious. Is this an angry god or a powerful rebirth?
Then there's his Scyther which has a very light feel despite being in action in the illustration, with almost no dark shadows at all and lots of natural light. Feels just like mowing the lawn on a March afternoon. His Mewtwo and Tyranitar are truly sinister monsters, which is their best form.
I only wish we saw more cards from him, but maybe it's best to go out on a high note than to keep going for decades and devolve into slop like Kagemaru Himeno, Sumiyoshi Kizuki, et. al.

This isn't so bad and feels more in the style of the Gym cards than cards from like... EX Power Keepers onwards. I feel the watercolor art meshes with the uncanny backgrounds better and makes them feel very dreamlike, compared to the more vibrant colors of Gen 3 art.
But literally the Gym era cards were some of my favorite, the stock arts felt like what Pokemon would look like irl somehow, and the ones that were specially drawn were the first true anime-style art I'd ever seen and felt super vivid. This is one of the best cards ever imho.

The difference between Pokemon and other TCGs is that you really don't use any cards besides the current sets to compete with, meaning older cards are purely for collectors. There aren't really any supported formats and the power level just isn't there to compete across generations. So reprinting anything outside of special editions (like 30th) is generally pointless.

I mean they do have Expanded Format which is basically Yugioh where anything from Black and White 2011 to the present is a legal deck that can be played but yeah most tournament grinders stick to Standard because it's cheap and the card pool is easy to memorize compared to 15 years of busted cards

Nice. I also just spent £20 from my own card show budget on the JP Espeon promo I liked, because it’ll be ridiculously expensive in English.

the cards don't matter anymore for sealed investing

what matters is the box mon and the packaging

You been to many shows before? This will be my 2nd. Quite looking forward to it, and I have a few things I'd be willing to trade/sell, and a crappy blitzle psa9 to try get rid of (that was a silly purchase).

Same, actually! I went to my first this month with some friends and it was great fun, now copying them and bringing cash as you can barter with it. I’m also taking some impulse purchases that were bargains for trading lel. My old vintage cards are sealed in my parent’s attic like it’s a pharaoh’s tomb so I’m avoiding buying anything from the 90s-2000s until I can take inventory, but everything else is fair game and I can tell my shopping list is getting barely stuck to. I’m going to the one in Bristol on the 12th as it’s local and looks fairly substantial, very excited to hunt for lots of baby shinies and other fun stuff.

June was mine, and this one is near my city so don't have to go far, but don't think it's big. I took a fair bit of cash to the first one, so I could go wild (and I did) (fair bit for a poorfag, like £200 ish), but won't have anywhere near that. I'll be trying to pay attention this time and not pay top end for too much stuff.
I keep being indecisive about the slab, it isn't the best card, but it was the first thing I bought, so has that value. Fuck it, I'm keeping it.

This is the only Pokemon card I own, it was a promo from the Detective Pikachu movie Bluray. For the heck of it, I just looked it up on tcgplayer and a Lightly Played card goes for $20. What the fuck. I've been using it as a Token in my YuGiOh deck.

You guys aren't gonna like this but I think it's time to sell. Some of you probably have collections that if you sold now would give you life changing money. Something to think about.
>>
>>59632791
I have like 15k in pokemon cards but I wouldn't really call that lifechanging
>>
>>59632803
Have you checked the value since 3 days ago though? You could have100k now

It's 15k there's some singles I haven't bothered putting in yet I get so tired after a while of doing this manually (why would I pay to use an app when I can do it myself for free)

Is it better to store binders with the spine up?
>>
>>59632791
I really don’t know when all these DS era cards spiked in price but all of my lvl x cards are 100+ now and ive got like 8 of them. Who has nostalgia for the worst gen?

I was 11 when Diamond and Pearl came out.

Spine down means all the pages are falling on the spine, possibly exerting extra pressure on the cards within. Spine up means the cards and pages are hanging, with any gravitational pressure being exerted on the binder itself. But practically, sleeves and the pages themselves should more than protect the cards provided they're not overstacked.

I was looking up videos for an unrelated card game I was curious about and randomly stumbled upon the single coolest Pokemon playing mat I've ever seen.

I wonder if it's official.

If you love it, keep it. You can always sell or trade it later on. £200 is loads, honestly. I think the guys who throw out thousands on cards have warped regular people’s views on budgets. Let’s both have an awesome time buying cardboard, anon. I’m gonna get this guy

All I need is Fossil Gengar to complete my Base-Rocket set after my entire life spent chasing it. Why did I balk at $30-50 for the card 7 years ago? I can't afford it now, I will never be able to buy it. It's an ugly shitmon and crap 3D art, it sucks as a card, why is it fucking $100 for damaged tools on TCGP? Kill me. This isn't fucking fun anymore, it hasn't been in years. The last time I had any joy buying cards was probably around Crown Zenith and JP singles being so cheap, English packs plentiful, pull rates reasonable... I hate the Jews like Ishihara so much for what they did to this game. Never thought I'd say this but the US game peaked in the eCard era, competitve play, generous prizing, beautiful, collectable, generously distributed cards, zero scalping, cratered resale value.... 2002. Halcyon days.

Isn't the entire point of stitched binding to combat the potential of sagging pages? Like they're in there so tight they won't bend or bow and they're ringless so there's nothing to be deformed by?
Shouldn't need to store them like a sperg to get the intended protection. An

Holo, alas. I would have taken raw cards in even MP condition as it existed before the pandemic, but I really don't trust TCGP descriptions anymore, I can only imagine sub-LP as being creased shit. I can stand edge wear or a scuffed back, scratches or dents or curving. But creases, tears, peeling, etc is unacceptable especially at these prices....

I'll never forget that summer, I was 7 years old and my family would go to the Palisades Mall for all the big movies, Spider-Man, Attack of the Clones, Two Towers, Chamber of Secrets... Hell even Atlantis. And then I'd be allowed to pick something at the Target which had a huge card section. Expedition and Aquapolis with their impossibly huge set sizes and mysterious Ghbili-esque setting.
