>>59637284>There'd be absolutely nothing wrong with making a Pokemon game with a libertarian slant.Well for starters, what does this have to do with Pokemon?
>>59637288What does rich people wanting to murder the world or an autistic man having a tantrum about emotions have to do with Pokemon?
>>59637289They're background context for the antagonists to explain why they're trying to conquer or destroy the world, because not everyone can be a "because evil" like Giovanni or Ghetsis or it gets really stale.
>>59637288The player can fight back against government overreach.
>>59637289The narrative to do with the richfags was that Lysandre saw the world as ugly due to the constant waging of wars with both human and Pokemon, and the conflict in his heart had to do with the Pokemon that were being used by people to wage war with would be collateral damage in order to make the world a more beautiful place.Cyrus believed the human spirit (not emotions) was unnecessary (which involves Uxie, Mesprit and Azelf directly) and in order to rewrite the world he required the power of Space or Time.
>>59637295Cool. Now your antagonist wants to control everything. They want to dictate what monsters people have access to. Dictate who has access to wild areas. Dictate who gets what TMs. Etc. Then you fight them and they use 'controlling' moves like Trick Room or terrain setting or weather setting or they focus on Sleep status moves and shit. EZ PZ. I already made your game for you. How do you feel about using AI in romhacking? In either coding, writing or art?
>>59637536Software development without AI is pure mental illness at this point.BUT DON'T YOU HECKIN DARE USE AI ART. PAY ARTISTS WHAT THEY'RE WORTH PAY US!!!!!!
I just want to play Pokemon games about Pokemon. You know, like the relationship between humans and pokemon or the unique ecosystems Pokemon inhabit and stuff like Pokemon mythology. I don't want to be reminded of real life problems or see stuff unrelated to Pokemon while playing Pokemon. Any problems presented in a Pokemon story should uniquely pertain to the Pokemon world, whether it can be interpreted as analogous to a real world issue or not. The lazy insertion of identity politics that says and does nothing for the Pokemon setting just shatters my immersion and makes it not fun. And this extends to the discourse surrounding content that lazily injects such politics. Is it too much to ask for Pokemon to be Pokemon?
>>59637193>It was started by the person inserting his ideology into places it doesn't belong.Well, since this is just the same regurgitated shit from the last thread, let's go back and see who started it in that thread...>>59633852Oh. >>59634035Oh dear. It's not looking good for you... It seems the argument was started by the side WHINING about the trannies...
>>59637546That's a legitimate question about a romhack in the romhacking general by a person who's willingness to play the romhack is based on the presence of gender politics in the work. The following discourse is complaining about the pointless addition of flags and whatnot that serve no purpose but diminish the aesthetic value of their romhacks. This is not inserting ideology. This is critiquing the insertion of ideology that preexisted that post.
>>59637552Say it with me: Trans People Are Not An Ideology. Trans Rights Are Human Rights.
>>59637536I think it's perfectly fine to use with coding. There are some people who will never be convinced that it's okay, but in all likelihood they wouldn't even be able to tell if something they played used AI for coding or not. If something is sloppy, it's not because the dev used AI, it's because they were lazy. You still have to be hands-on, give it a lot of direction and do a lot of playtesting. And if you aren't willing to do that, your game was going to be slop whether you used AI or not. Also, having experimented a bunch using Codex with pokeemerald, it's more than capable of doing it. People who think AI code is automatically slop are just clueless about what it's capable of. If you're against it for ethical reasons or something, I get that, whatever, but it does work. When it comes to the artistic stuff I'm a bit more conflicted. Putting aside ethical or moral debates, I just think AI art is a bit soulless. I'm not particularly interested in engaging with something that an AI wrote or drew. I do want to feel the human touch there. I think it has applications. I've used it to do stuff like for example creating palettes for sprites or cleanly convert assets to the right format. I personally wouldn't use it to actually generate assets, and would probably avoid hacks that obviously did so. But that's me.
>>59637555Human Rights don't exist, buddy. They're a fiction that humans grant other humans because we decided to. Don't worry. I understand the concept of 'consent' is a complex matter for your kind.
>>59637555Human Rights are decided by those powerful enough to define them. And the powerful, as they see it, see every single human being on this planet as nothing more than slave cattle or victims to rape and murder in the name of Baal and Moloch.
>>59637558Also, I have heard the argument that coding is art too so should be held to the same standards, and I don't necessarily disagree. But the reality is 99% of romhack coding is just rote repetition. Maybe some people making really boundary-pushing features are doing creative GBA coding, but most romhackers are not. They're just copy pasting the code that the pret devs set up and filling in some blanks. Maybe it's hypocritical to say it's okay for some things and not others. Call me a hypocrite then. I think you'll find most people feel about the same though, even on reddit when they tried to ban AI use in romhacks it was met with a lot of backlash because people didn't want to ban AI code. Most people adhere to a kind of "out of sight, out of mind" mentality. People can usually pick up on when art has been generated by AI - for now, at least. But the average person playing a hack is not going to recognize that you used AI code, so they're going to be fine with that. Is that fair? Maybe, maybe not, but it is what it is.
>>59637536I fervently refuse to use it for anything and see it as an affront to human creativity overall.
>>59637473Glad I'm not the only one that can't stand seeing people butcher Gen 2's aesthetic. I tried playing Polished Crystal and almost couldn't make it past Elm's lab because the color of the pokeballs were arbitrarily changed and no longer fit within the original palette.
>>59637555I never understood the point of this movement. No shit that trans rights are human rights retard you're still human despite being a mutilated freak. So then what exactly are you fighting for here? You already have human rights, what you seek is attention, which isn't a human right. You push for the ideology that you want the same treatment as others from others, when nobody should be forced to do so on an individual level. I don't have to get along with you, I don't have to tolerate you, and the same is true for you. So why do you keep trying to push for me to tolerate you? Fuck off already.
>>59637590The human right to talk to your children on Discord, of course.
>>59637590They desperately want to be the new jews, so they assume everyone is trying to "literally genocide them" and that they're "one bill away from being rounded up and slaughtered while everyone cheers."
>>59637608That does explain their affinity for the jews. Even after the world knows the evil of jews, they still jump to scream and holler at the sight of jews being "oppressed". Who knows, perhaps trannies, too, are hiding their great wealth. They're clearly controlling and manipulating the media in their favour, after all.
>>59637610They're the eunuchs, of course they have wealth, just not as much as their masters.
>>59637590Well, it's quite simple. They want:>Free access to female restrooms>The ability to 'educate' (groom) children at schools, libraries, so on>The capacity to freely express their degeneracy in broad daylight for kids to see>For tax money to go directly to funding their hormones and surgeries>For children to be able to legally transition, even if it's against their legal guardian's consent>For men and women to fully accept them, meaning they will have sex with them and are not allowed to reject them on the basis of their identity and mutilated, ugly, bodies>To be conveniently treated as 'lesbians' by lesbian women even if they still have a penis>To be included in women's events, like women's sports, regardless of the inherent problems their male body presents to the spirit of honest competition >For others to be forced, legally, to acknowledge their gender identity and refer to them as such, even when they don't even remotely pass and resemble absolutely nothing of their supposed identityAnd many many other things they feel entitled to. If you deny any of these things you are denying them their 'human rights'.
>>59637621only positive i can see from this is them dismantling 3rd wave feminism. Way to go Nu-Moemon devs, for fighting the evils of feminism! I'm right behind you!
I can't play older hacks anymore.. some of them don't even have auto-run.
>>59637623Honestly, I think the recent baby murder and ketamine gangbangs may have done more harm for feminism than anything else.
>>59637555Trans People Are Not An Ideology. Trans Rights Are Human Rights.Also...Everything is political, everything. The presence of gay people, trans people, or "visible minorities" (from a western perspective) is not magically inserting politics into your cockfighting simulator.
>>59637621>The ability to 'educate' (groom) children at schools, libraries, so on>The capacity to freely express their degeneracy in broad daylight for kids to seeUnfortunately, they already do these.
>>59637633Even 1996 Pokemon is political, because it reflects the industrial urbanism and yakuza problems of the IRL Kanto by creating a fantastical adventure out of it.
I'm surprised FRLG.IPS didn't have all this ideology cult stuff, considering the dev is a troon.
>>59637635this is the same type of argument as saying that you should be fine with Generative A.I. because every device from TVs to your oven use it but trannies are too busy commiting suicide to be ready for this conversation.
>>59637638*use A.I. of the non-generative variety
>>59637636It was too busy being mentally ill and thinking it has multiple people living inside its head, which balances out the tranny aspects in favor of schizophrenia.
>>59637636And that's exactly why I gave it a shotSadly it was kinda shit but it had a lot of cool ideas into the mix, big fan of the "out of screen reset" puzzles in the void area
>>59637638Trannies seethe over AI but they all secretly use it to see what they would look like if they weren't fucked up looking failures that God came up with while drunk.
>>59637645God made no mistakes, they did that to themselves.
>>59637646God did make a mistake. He gave us free will.
>>59637635Nothing wrong with involving politics into the mix of the story, but they should not take precedent to the adventure and morality should be plain and clear for everyone playing.
>>59637636Speaking of creepypasta stuff that's surprisingly not troonified despite being troon-made, someone made an actual Lost Silver romhack pretty recently.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rA2oricsy6wIt's got all the stuff from the original story, the gamemaker game, and an original final sequence if you go through all the paths in one run.Obviously it's short, but it's technically impressive and I can't think of very many romhacks that take advantage of running custom scripts in battles to recreate all the moments or make unique mechanics.
just found this, wanted to share it lads>GBA Pokémon ROM hacks can fit 100 regions. Maps only use 1/20 of the original game, the ROM size can be doubled, and the vanilla map format is 6x bigger than it needs to be.https://x.com/ranbpa0/status/2106262508654957049
>>59637681>linkholy sex
>>59637652>.gifwhy did he do it
>>59637681Would be interesting to hear where the 6x comes from since maps are already just 2 bytes / metatile.
So this technically isn’t a romhack but definitely worth checking out. An ARPG that plays like Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles but uses Pokemon Battle Revolution assetshttps://youtu.be/LzTpUXaYfSw
>>59637858More slop for the trough! yum yum yummy
>>59637681You could ffit 100 regions' worth of maps in there, but what about scripts?
>>59637536If it's good then it's good, AI or not. Anything else doesn't matter.
>>59637536It has to be curated by a human to be good.Half of AI art is downright bad, the rest is either acceptable or actually good.AI-generated code is a wordy mess, but it iterates fast. And the fact that it makes a crazed uppity part of the general populace shit their pants and cry to sleep because m-muh evil ai m-muh enviwonment m-muh real artists is the wonderful cherry on top.
>>59637473The hack has no source, so actually getting in there to modify assets was a pain in the ass and not worth recreating an entire game for.
>>59638092What?Tools can extract and replace custom tilesets. That's what the shitty flags are, tiles. We do what we have to, to make the world a better and more sane place.
>>59636835What are our thoughts on gen1recomp?https://github.com/bryanthaboi/gen1recompDespite the name it works with gen 2 and gen 3 too.As a test ride I imported FireRed and removed the shitty """help""" screens before Oak's intro when you pick new game. It was pretty easy to do (the scripts are imported from the rom and converted to lua).Less limitations than the GBA, easier to add new graphics or replace existing ones.Anyone using it for anything good?
>>59638098It's not just tiles, it's also finding where the palette is stored and changing that.If it's so easy, you do it.
>>59638100You don't need the palette to fix a shitty flag.mGBA's debug tools can show you all the graphics in vram and literally tell exactly where in the rom they are. Replace it with a wall or whatever.I don't care about that shitty romhack or anything made by trannies, but you make it sound like it's rocket science.

i would also love to see some romhacks that focus on the UI instead of other stuffi love the gen 4 style since it doesn't utilize 3d as much as gen 5 roms and also has significantly better pixel sprites, but the UI in gen 4 games can be a little too cluttered instead of neatly organized like gen 5

>>59637536Fine for the coding. Most romhack work is already done and getting an AI to parrot out the steps to you skips reading forums. Not good for the writing or the artwork. If you're going to include original storylines or original assets, they better be made by your meat claws and not a robot. I don't use AI, but romhacking is an artistic endeavor, not an engineering one. So using it as a bypass for the programming side facilitates non-computer nerds to make more art. But the other way, if you're a computer nerd but you have no interest or skill at art, doesn't interest me. And in that case I don't want AI being used for art assets.
>>59637541You've been filtered from the franchise since Gold and Silver.Even RBY has something to say about animal abuse, as plot thin that game is. GSC already started with the focus on environmentalism and animal rights. RSE doubled down and that continued.
>>59637552Seeing an artist express themselves in their work and then calling that an unwelcome insertion of ideology is pure entitlement. You view yourself as the default owner of any given created romhack or essentials product, and the artist owes you appeal. The artist expressing themselves in a way that you don't want is offensive because you view it as an imposition onto what you own. Of course, the reality is that there is no imposition at all. The artist that made the project decided to express themselves in it, and you are just a bovine-like consumer coming along to browse after the fact.

>>59638269>silver (antagonist)>slowpoke well>lake of rageMan, I wonder what that all meant. While it was implicit that Team Rocket abused Pokemon in RBY, it is explicit in GSC and is the reason that Gold (protagonist) is hunting them down.
>>59638253>animal rights>PokémonGood luck including this topic in a cockfighting-glorifying franchise without sounding ridiculous.
>>59638278 But why? You're not using any Pokemon.
>>59638294Is George Bush still president?
>>59638281>Silver (antagonist)A reflection that strong Pokemon don't make you a better trainer and that the problem was Silver himself, which he reflects upon during his journey AND after his defeat to the Elite 4.>slowpoke wellA quick scheme to make money, Slowpokes don't feel a difference to having tail or not since they regrow it back and they are sold as food in-game>lake of rageA biproduct of Team Rocket's shenanigans which have nothing to do with environmentalism or animal rights.
>>59638326>Slowpokes don't feel a difference to having tail or notThis was a later retcon, in GSC it was clearly meant to be harming the Slowpokes.I'd honestly go a step farther than that guy and say that environmentalist themes were present in the series from the very beginning. Kanto is all about the effect of urbanization on nature. There's Pokemon in gen 1 based on literal pollution. It was always there.
Man... I love Ghost Grey but most of the designs aren't that interesting or cool. Most people end up with similar looking teams as a result from what I've seen
>>59638168Monomyth
>>59638338>This was a later retcon, in GSC it was clearly meant to be harming the Slowpokes. It's not a retcon moreso that Team Rocket was harvesting them recklesslyAlso the point is that environmentalism takes a step back to the overall narrative, pollution in Celadon was always there, and isn't even tied to the story, Team Rocket didn't urbanize or modernize towns they were in fact still trying to get a monopoly on Silph Co by the time you get there.Everything environmental is secondary in Pokemon.
>>59638353It might be secondary, sure, but it was always there. That's all I'm saying. Acting like Pokemon didn't have environmentalist themes is like being surprised when told that Studio Ghibli movies have environmentalist themes. It's honestly quite foundational to the series, imo. They might not beat you over the head with it in Kanto, but you can very much feel it present throughout the whole game if you're paying attention. It's really just a product of its time and place, the rapid and extreme urbanization of Tokyo caused a lot of environmental anxieties in Japan, how could it not? And that's reflected in a lot of work contemporary of Pokemon, even when it's not the main, explicit focus. Anyway, I'm not necessarily saying it's an excuse to make the games overtly political, just saying it's never quite been just a totally innocent fantasy series.
>>59638326Human interference causing problems in natural evolution was already topical in the 90s way before Alex Jones had his "turn the frogs gay", bit.
Went on vacation and stalled on the godot ports.Back at it now, Crystal Clear still in progress but I'm hoping to get it done this month, then a clean pass through gen 2, then starting on gen 3.As a side note, I've been taking notes on the monster tamer scene as a whole trying to spec out features that would make sense for 2d games.Wish me luck friends, not giving up on this project.
>>59638309It's a lot easier to make a romhack than to make a game from the ground up using entirely original assets.

How would you make Pokémon a better RPG?In baseline, levels are the only real form of progression, and it's a very basic one. "just level to 100" isn't a very engaging form of progression.Everything else is a lie: EVs, IVs, natures, even moves, it's all a "you deal more damage" matter.Even then, all that matters is level. I remember breeding a Charmander with Flamethrower and being very disappointed. Couldn't even oneshot a low level Pidgey. In Dark Souls you can kill endgame bosses at level 1. In World of Warcraft you can twink your character (= get the best gear for your level) at level 19 and kill people 40 levels higher than you.In Pokémon you can't ever do anything like that, because everything is tied to level as the only progression system.I guess there should be a way to increase base stats for any Pokémon, so you aren't shoehorned into using the same high bst ones.Plus something like equippable gear to give stats and held-item-like effects?I dunno. What do you think?
>>59639673>In baseline, levels are the only real form of progressionDisagree, evolution and learning new moves are also forms of progression, and imo one of the most engaging progression systems in a jrpg. Seeing your team literally change form as they get stronger over the course of the game is extremely satisfying. The variety of moves makes leveling up and finding TMs fun too. Yeah, those things are mostly tied to leveling, but that's kind of just jrpgs for you. Pokemon is just inherently a very different kind of game than Dark Souls or WoW. The vast majority of jrpgs are built around leveling-based progression. IMO Pokemon doesn't have problem with progression, except maybe that it peters out after your Pokemon are all fully evolved and have their strongest moves, which makes levels 60-100 or so kind of a slog. I suppose if you could come up with a late form of progression it would make those final level brackets more interesting, but most games end around level 60-70 anyway. I think one of the main problems is that the games are so easy you don't have to engage with a lot of the mechanics that would make it more interesting. A lot of romhacks go too far in the opposite direction and become kaizoslop. But there is a middleground somewhere. Other than that, maybe introduce more rpg systems like quests, which some romhacks do, but there's room to expand that. Or maybe some kind of trainer class system to give the player bonuses for building certain teams. Like you could spec into Hiker to get a bonus for using rock and ground types. Idk, just an idea.I actually think giving all Pokemon increased bst makes progression less interesting, because part of Pokemon's progression is that there are Pokemon that are good in the early game but you phase out later, and part of designing a good progression is taking that into account with Pokemon distribution. But maybe it could work if it came at a cost and you didn't just give everything buffs like a lot of hacks do.
>>59639673Pokemon is a turn-based RPG, that's a whole genre of numbers. Even using certain equips is just influencing the numbers in your favor. Dark Souls works with low-level runs because you are in direct control of avoiding damage.Let's Go and Legends Arceus had items to directly boost your stats, but the problem there is that literally everything can use those items too.I think Persona would be a better way to go about adding more RPG elements to the game. There's already precedence of the player befriending NPCs with the Pokegear in gen 2 by exchanging numbers. You could make those NPCs available to hang out at certain times and days, and give better rewards than randomly give you an item, unlock a swarm, or rematch. Like, hang out with a Biker enough to start learning bike tricks, or a Swimmer that gradually teaches you how to swim in different bodies of water without needing to use a Pokemon, a Breeder could give you faster egg hatching and a better chance at getting high IVs or a shiny. On top of that, you could provide the player with different catch rate or exp/EV gain bonuses against certain types and frame it as being taught special tips that a general trainer wouldn't know of.
>>59639703 >part of Pokemon's progression is that there are Pokemon that are good in the early game but you phase out later, and part of designing a good progression is taking that into account with Pokemon distributionThis is something that is so often ignored by both official and fangame designers. There's nothing wrong with having a Pokemon that does its job for a short while before it gets replaced by something else. You don't need to bring your first 6 to endgame every time.
>>59639849>or a Swimmer that gradually teaches you how to swim in different bodies of water without needing to use a PokemonIt's the fun kind of dark irony since Surf is the best among the HM moves in combat, and even better for doubles.
>>59640101The issue there is that the games also teach you that being mercenary with your monsters and discarding losers all the time is misbehavior. Butterfree dying constantly is a personal fault for you being a bad trainer. Not a reason to box it and catch a replacement.
>>59640102Sure, but it's the easiest example of an NPC teaching the player how to use an HM on his own.
>>59640109That's also true. Given enough effort, Butterfree can also just outlevel any enemy and make up for the stat disparity. There's a clear disconnect between the writers' intention, how easy the game is to brute force, and what actually helps to play into the uniqueness of a monster collector.
>>59640101>You don't need to bring your first 6 to endgame every time.R-right...
>>59640109Yeah that's a good point. It's kind of a weird quirk of Pokemon, I fall into the same trap. But when I think of other monster collecting RPGs like SMT, part of the fun is that I actually collect and use a wide variety of monsters over the course of the game. I'm constantly fusing new demons both to increase raw power and to address the weaknesses of specific enemies. Pokemon wants you to catch a ton of Pokemon to fill up the Pokedex, but then also wants you to only use a handful because it gets you attached to them. Maybe the trick is to introduce a way to interact with your Pokemon other than battling, so when you box a Pokemon it doesn't feel like you're condemning them to rot in jail. Maybe something like contests or Pokeathlon that uses attributes other than raw stats, but more rewarding. Maybe something like the Legends Arceus dex system where you have to actually use the Pokemon to fill out their dex entries, although a lot of people found that too grindy. Maybe something like the Demon Haunt from SMTVV where you can just go hang out with your Pokemon and get small rewards. You know in the anime Ash would send all his unused Pokemon to Oak's and you'd see them all chilling and interacting with eachother? Like that. At least that way when you box a Pokemon it wouldn't feel so heartless cause you could go see them thriving. They could give you items they've picked up or gain small increases in power from training with eachother so eventually you might swap them back in. Make it like a kind of more interactive and robust daycare system.
>>59639673>In Dark Souls you can kill endgame bosses at level 1.That's because games like Dark Souls give you the freedom to dodge boss attacks in a way that you just can't do in Pokemon. You can learn to avoid attacks that would oneshot you but it takes skill and practice to do it consistently. In Pokemon you just get statchecked if the enemy is too strong.
>>59639232Altair kicked my ass at times.
Gonna hijack this thread, sorry, dunno where else to post and don't wanna make a new thread.I know romhacks are very advanced nowadays, but...Say I want to emulate the 90s rich kid experience (two gameboys, red/blue/yellow/gold/silver/crystal, N64 + transfer pak + stadium 1/2 and all the cables) via emulators.Has anyone tried that? Is it possible?
>>59640765You just want to link emulators and normal roms? Yeah, that can be done. You're going to want to talk to these guys >>>/vg/582842818
>>59640765yes, it's immersion-breaking and boring as fuck. no different from cheating. i did that when i first had emulators and when there no good romhacks to give you the full experience. it's one reason why i hated ruby so much. you had all the pokemon in the files but could only obtain them through outside means. i'm glad this asinine game design gets liquidated with romhacks.
>>59640101>>59640118Butterfree is actually the correct way to solve all of this. In the early game, it's a huge burst in damage and utility with 90/80 base special attack and the powder moves. In the early midgame, it's still quite good but moreso as a utility mon with other things catching up offensively. In the late midgame it starts to fall off even as a support mon due to how frail it is. But if you stick it out long enough to the endgame, it gains renewed relevance with quiver dance + powder moves. It both has reason to replace it like an engaging rpg would be but also reason to keep it long term like a series about making bonds would be. Now, it isn't perfect, 44 is a bit too soon to gain qd, just before the e4 would be my ideal, and the current 6v6 npc battles sleep powder + compound eyes + quiver dance really needs an engaging npc or pp limitations to not be broken with, but it's a good framework for mons that peak early. Shitmons that carry you in the early game should be given niches in the late game, even if otherwise unviable.
>>59640555We used to have the Pelago for that, to imply your boxed mons are living it up in paradise, but of course Alola wouldn't be unique and memorable if other regions had similar mechanics.
>>59640856>no different from cheating>wants technical "cheating" instead (yes, romhacks changing encounters to avoid trades can be considered cheating in the context of the original games)wat
>>59641206you're not wrong to point this out. merely giving you access to more and stronger pokemon is absolutely cheating. this is why more elaborate who understand this issue rebalance the entire game.
>>59640555The zoos that a few hacks have is the perfect solution to this. Whatever monster you aren't using, is chilling in a specifically planned and cared for enclosure. Not just sitting in cyberspace.
>>59641395what hacks have this?
>>59641410nta, but lazarus had it. i usually hate dexbloat, but this made it a positive for me
>>59638339It is probably the best hack in current times, and completely clears others. I think the artist or designer decided to make it edgy just for the sake of being edgy, as in the Hall of Fame, some portraits have different unique styles from trainer to trainer. I still think the creator should have made the designs cute over edgy, but seeing the dark tone the entire hack rom has, I guess it wouldn't work. Also too much lipsticks on girls for my tastes.
>>59641597>It is probably the best hack in current timesEh, it has its flaws in gameplay and story, though it does have a lot of raw SOVL and I still love it a lot. I'm a beta tester for Monomyth and I can tell that it's going to be THE hack for a decent while. Seriously, you guys have a lot of cool shit waiting for you. The issue with GG designs is probably that they aren't extreme enough, which makes them less interesting. More stuff like Lunachu would be cool. Plaguemon to contrast has a fuckton of really interesting designs because it went all in on edge. Not that GG's designs are even bad it's just that not a lot of them make me wanna jump to put them on my team. The ones that do are the ones everyone has on their teams lol
>>59641659Doesn't help that GG has a case of "gives you retardedly good mons early on", it's stupid easy to get insane mons, especially if you explore for some evolution items, and then most of those retardedly good mons are just the vanilla ghosts.
Genuine question for those who make games, and assuming making other games you can profit off is not an option you can take or intend to take, are you unemployed with enough time to make this stuff or do you guys have a job you juggle on top of game-making?

It's just a combination of the RBY and Stadium UI I think it makes sense if you played both and it doesn't throw you off to much going back to either vanilla game where the hud is just completely different and everything is in different positions. >>59633195I added the option to turn off the opponent's HP or keep it on in the options, that was a good call and quick and easy to fix.

>>59642509It looks a lot better when there isn't a stupid filter applied to everything.
>>59642513I have shit taste but I enjoy the filters, so long as they're thematically appropriate (Mexico is yellow irl), but the one thing I can't stand is the limited fucking DoF they slap on that shit and make everything not front-and-center blurry as fuck. At least give me the option to toggle it, or adjust the strength. I have to wonder if Octopath was supposed to be a 3ds game, it would have popped there I suppose.
>>59642509i hate it. the perspective is nauseating. hd2d is disgusting.
>>59641761>I wish more devs would go the route of disabling IVs outright. There has never been a good game that did this.
>>59643097Well if you're already going to simply allow people to freely edit things whenever they want, you might as well remove them entirely.
>>59643104leave it be without removing them entirely. there is no real reason to remove monster individuality, just grow up and don't have an autism fit over your pokemon not being "perfect" (which no one ever cared about before they were directly privy to this info

The entire concept of IVs is absolutely shit. There's literally no reason you should be allowed to catch a 'mon, invest time in it, and then find out it's going to be forever gimped compared to exact same 'mons because of a bad rng roll you can't ever fix.
>>59643223>you can't ever fix.Not a problem anymore with bottle caps.
>>59643223there's no reason why you shouldn't be allowed to catch a mon, invest time in it, and then find out it isn't receiving 100% of all possible bonus stats that it possibly could.
>>59643223They work because you're not supposed to know about them. You aren't supposed to minmax, either. Just roll with the punches and use what you can find.
>>59643252Which worked until autists hacked the games open to reveal the secret variables you were never supposed to know about, forever opening Pandora's Box for the competitive scene that Nintendo, GameFreak and The Pokemon Company decided to facilitate.
>>59643256Yeah, it's forbidden knowledge, but the attitude toward it is based entirely on how you view the games. PVPfags will cry about IVs when in reality they basically don't matter outside of that.
>>59643123>It's miserable for romhacks that throw perfect monsters at you constantlyThat's just a balancing issue. Not an issue with the IV system.
>>59643223If you can't beat single player with a pokemon with 0 EVs, you just suck. Your whole argument boils down to you are bad at the game and want a baby mode.
>>59643291it's an entitled, glass half-empty mentality. they see having 31 IVs in all stats as the minimum expectation (all else being "getting screwed" or "gimped"), rather than the maximum amount of bonus points you can get in your stats on top of their unaltered values
>>59643287The balancing issue wouldn't exist if the IV system didn't exist.
>>59643302Yes it would. They would just do it in different ways. Then you'd be calling for the removal of levels.
>>59643351No? You have far greater control over levels. It's only when hackers are insecure about their game's capacity to challenge and force level caps that levels suddenly become a problem.
>>59643357And in that case, that's just a balancing issue. Not an issue with the IV system.
>>59643097Ghost Grey. IVs are a SHIT mechanic
>>59643223ivs should exist, the same species of pokemon you just caught being different is nice, but they should've remove the option to have them be fully ived out. all pokemon should have the same amount of ivs, but their distribution is random. post game options would allow you to randomize them again, but the total would remain the same. maybe make it impossible to have more than one max iv?

The last few days there have been a lot of discussions of ai usage in the community.Hackdex has put an ai disclosure on every game that uses it.Well, i'm just here to tell you antis that for the ai code assisted hack i will release i WON'T disclose my ai usage, i WILL lie about it, you WILL play it and you CAN'T do anything about it.Cope and seethe.
>>59643800That does make me think - where do these A.I. games go, seeing how Eevee Expo & Pokecommu have banished them to fuckall?
So, I was pretty sure that I had posted in one of these threads but I’ll post again. Basically, over the course of 7 months I made a Pokemon ARPG in the vein of Final Fantasy Crystal chronicles using PBR assets and custom assets made with ai. Worked pretty aggressively to make it neither buggy nor slop. Also, I’m a big fan of King’s Field, and not so much a fan of Pokémon’s current direction, so it’s quite challenging and also more aesthetically in line with those games. Reposting here for fellas to try out. That said I’ve never played Legends so I can’t speak to how similar it is, but from what I’ve seen the situations are far less testing, interesting or dynamic. Give it a shot. Controls take a little getting used to but I think there’s a nice opportunity for skill expression, and promise, overall, it’s worth it.I also plan to open source once documentation is cleaned up. Gens 1-4 for now. Over 10 biomes, over 20 maps. Feel free to give opinions once you play, happy to hear em. https://youtu.be/LzTpUXaYfSw
>>59643811I've found a few downloads on DA. I'd image wherever Girls Hunter is hosted has them.
>>59643811If they blanket ban AI usage, then people will just lie about their usage or new communities will spring up and the old sites will get left in the dust. I'm pretty sure the major discords allow some AI use for now, the Hackdex exists (and should probably be added to the OP links btw), even the Reddit sub had to walk back their hardline anti-AI stance after it got backlash. At the end of the day people will flock to the platforms that have the most options available, and platforms that create restrictions will eventually die out.

>>59642374How playable is it?>>59643223IV's kinda work for Pokemon's original design as a PVP game with friends as it added some luck factor that oculd help you overcome certain tresholds even in mirror matches. I've got plans for a Pokemon Ghost Grey port to decomp that actually adds all the ghost plus some other things. I will keep the dex curated and looking to not stray that far from base. The current name of the project is "Ghost Grey Ectopansion" and I could look for some ideas!
>>59644024please don't do slop edits of hacks. at worst, ghost grey just needs mons to keep their HM moves usable even after they've been replaced. that's the game's biggest flaw

Go look at the reddit threads that were discussing it, they were planning a complete AI ban but walked it back because so many people said it wasn't fair to ban AI coding. The reality is for most people it's fine if it's out of sight, out of mind. You can easily clock an AI art asset or AI writing and that turns people off, but it's a lot harder to notice AI code running in the background. Most people also just see coding as busywork and an obstacle, whether that's true or not.
>>59644510>That's true only for the most shitty vibecoded slop. The problem is that when making AI rules, it has to be all or nothing. Normally since Binary is the inferior method people would just use decomp but Bug Maniac Advance psyoped people into thinking decomp was hard to use and has resulted in a influx of frlg slop.
>>59645405WoT's attempt to clean itself up and be more transparent was funny, it's only like the first couple of areas that try to look less blatant about their AI overreliance, but eventually the game goes right back to AI slop writing, dogshit tilesets, incomprehensible map design and I think the most recent version outright softlocks you after you get the professor-turned-Shiny Gengar from the Distortion World, because I haven't been able to progress after that point.Lots of dumb shit too, like replacing the Kalos starters with the Gen 10 starters, except they can't evolve so they're worthless.
>>59645238AI was already cool, but the fact it angers and depresses retards like you is the cherry on the top.
>>59645405Just don't play binary hacks, then. Only play open-source romhacks based on the decomp. If you can't bother to do the bare minimum to filter shit out then you deserve to be swamped in shit.
>>59645440>b-but there are so few open-source romhacks, anon! only the good ones do it! the thousands of bad ones don't do that, how am I supposed to...>to...>...oh.
>>59644723They aren't the majority. They're just a very loud terminally online group of whiners.
>>59645460You're wasting your breath, he's one of them.
>>59645238it still takes time, at least for now you can't just tell the AI "make a Pokemon game" and have something playable in the hour. you still need to direct it, and there are still aspects of hacking that AI can't really do, like mapping. for how long this remains the case is questionable, but at least right now it's not an instant-pokemon-game button. the rate of slop coming out probably won't change all that much.
>>59645460I'd argue it's the other way around.
also another thing, where is the incentive for people to churn out a bunch of shitty AI slop hacks? with AI art and videos etc, there is an incentive to make mass amounts of the stuff, because it can be monetized. but people aren't making money off romhacks outside of a very few exceptions. there will definitely be people who do it just because they can but I doubt there's going to be a mass deluge of slop like there is in other mediums. the incentive just isn't there. why make a slop romhack when you could just make a slop game that's original and try to sell it? the fact that this is a non-monetized hobby means it attracts people who have a real passion to make something, and people who are more conscious about the use of AI. now having passion doesn't mean you have the work ethic or skills to make something good, there is and will continue to be a lot of slop. I just don't think it's going to take over the community to an unmanageable degree.
>>59645484I would agree a majority of people don't want AI art, sprites, writing etc. But when it comes to AI coding people are far more mixed about it.
>>59645491We don't understand why they do it. but they do it. There's already one guy I know of who was putting out a slop hack a month.
>>59645491Clout still exists, as does starting up a Patreon or Ko-Fi for things unrelated to the ROMhack (but totally are, shhhhhh) to exploit that newfound clout.Wishes of Tomorrow, despite being an AI slop hack, is trending big and getting downloads aplenty on Hackdex, which says a lot about how viable it'll be to churn out slop as long as you have a way to be clever about it.
>>59645498Unfortunately, it's difficult to separate the 2. If there was a way to make a clear line, that would be different.
>>59645506no it is not. if you have trouble finding a line between AI assets and AI code you might be retarded.>>59645505right on the money, but also not necessarily an AI problem alone either. lazarus might as well be AI, very obviously completely visionless, devoid of content or care, and uninspired, but its """done""" and checks off all the boxes for retarded rom hack players, so nemo gets 10 grand and infinite rom hacker clout for nothing.I don't know if AI will really make this better or worse but I know its coming and for a lot of people around here they already didn't really know how to tell apart slop from legitimate effort before AI so god help them now

>>59636835My romhack will have an unavoidable, scripted battle that kills the first Pokémon in your party during combat. This will happen near the end of the game.Good thing my players will surely be well-adjusted, normal people that would never think of doing dumb shit like nuslokes or one-mon-only runs!
>>59645731fuuuck ittttttt
>>59645784Extremely simple to just sack a shitmon or something that just doesn’t scale into late game
>>59645795You're mistakenly thinking you'll see it coming or that the game will tell you.
>>59645784i don't think there's anything inherently wrong with this as a design decision but your average pokemon romhack player is a subhuman who never thinks they should be deprived of anything for any reason.it does come across as a bit hostile, though, and there are probably better ways to force a player to experience meaningful loss than this.

i had to wipe my whole laptop recently and I was about 2/3rds of the way done with reborn. It was frustrating and I hated it but I wanted to at least finish it before moving on to rejuvenation or whatever its called. Is it worth it to start reborn over from scratch or just move on

Does it make sense to make Shadow Lugia Water/Flying? Dark/Flying seems obvious but I wanted Shadow Lugia to be the Lugia of the Galarian Bird trio, and Water/Flying is funnily enough what most retards thought Lugia was originally so it felt right to me personally
>>59645844>i wanted shadow lugia to be the lugia of the galarian bird triothis is a very stupid idea and you should outgrow whatever idiotic desire you have to do something like this
>>59644800What's your hack?
>>59645921>You can't do anything about itIt'll be pretty obvious when the game runs like shit and you have no fucking clue how to fix it.
>>59645947if this were something that mattered most of the top hacks would be indistinguishable from the ones coded by ai>>59645921what makes you think it's a good hack
>>59645801player can just reload
>>59645947This really isn't as big of an issue as the anti-AI crowd makes it out to be. It might be true if you were implementing transformative new systems and really pushing the game engine, but 95% of romhack coding is just rote copy+paste and fill in the blanks style "coding". For a basic hack, you are not going to be altering the codebase enough to make the game "run like shit".I have done a bunch of coding in pokeemerald with AI, and you wanna know what kind of errors I've gotten? Incorrect text wrapping, NPCs walking over tiles they shouldn't during cutscenes, dialogue boxes not triggering properly. That kind of thing. Nothing gamebreaking, and you wanna know how I fix it? I playtest, I make a note of errors, detail them to the AI, and it fixes them. Done. Again, I admit that this could change depending on the scope of your hack. Implementing major gameplay and engine changes, you should probably at least have a basic understanding of code even if you are going to use AI. But for what most people are doing, it doesn't matter. You're not going to break the game to an extent that an AI can't correct just by doing things like adding cutscenes, dialog, progress checks, trainer battles, editing items and Pokemon values, implementing sprites, and most of the other sorts of things a standard hack is going to be doing. That simply isn't how it works. If you DO manage to break the game badly doing that kind of thing, it's because you were lazy and didn't give the AI enough direction, and didn't do enough playtesting to catch issues before they compound. Which has nothing to do with the use of AI or not, and was happening long before AI entered the scene.
>>59645947Strawmanning.Yeah, obviously all the ai users until now already knew that they had better not disclosed their use. Simply if it's pure ai vibecoded you aren't really able to cover your lie, as soon as someone ask for one bugfix and you are not able to do it people find out.I'm obviously able to read my code and bugfix appropriately.Able to cover your lie = good code. It's indestinguishable, it will be so funny when the mentally ill anti ai absolutists will play it. If i then disclose, their brain will probably go into shortcircuit.>>59645951Well obviously the hack has already a lot of effort put into it. From what we can see it's already well beyond the level of slop. It doesn't matter if it isn't the best, it's enough if it's a 7, and it's on it's course to be.
>>59646022it definitely isn't beyond the level of slop at all, but i would say this about the game as it is described even with 100% certainty that no ai was involved. the generally talked-about "good" pokemon romhacks in the scene on a good day are lucky to break a 3/10, and the most charitable score i'd give this one just from how it is presented and advertised is also a 2 or 3.
>>59645460Basically no one has positive feelings towards AI art assets or writing. I literally can't think of anyone that isn't just a contrarian that does.
>>59645491There's literally no reason for them to fill boorus with it, but every booru around gets millions of AI images dumped on them constantly that they have to filter out.
>>59646038there's a type of person that can't tell the difference between good things or bad even when ai isn't involved, i don't know why you think this type of person wouldn't continue to exist after ai landed
>>59646030While i also agree that basically all the romhacks are way overvalued, i also think you are beign too rough. 3/10 is for me a game that's unplayable. You aren't able to go that low with all the pokemon skeleton as a base. Do you also think improvement hacks are 3/10 when the base game is at least a 6 and they changed one thing? It doesn't make sense. Also, i should have been more clear, what i meant is more that the community gives it a 7, the objective quality doesn't matter.
>>59646046if 3/10 is a game that's unplayable for you, what exactly is 2, 1, or 0?
>>59646042Gormlessly neutral isn't the same as positive.
>>59646046>Do you also think improvement hacks are 3/10 when the base game is at least a 6 and they changed one thing?it is frequently true that improvement hacks make the games they think they are improving markedly worse.
>>59646048Idk man, it's just how me, the gaming press and the school system do it.6 is good enough to be playable.I guess 2 and 1 are so horrificably bad that the engine glitch out at every step, that the game continually softlock, that's impossible to progress in the story...Something like that.
>>59645844Make the Shadow type a reality, or go Ghost/Flying.
>>59645862I shall not outgrow that desire.>>59646089Ghost/Flying sounds fine too but that would make it weak to GMoltresI was hoping for a type that wasn't weak to either Dark, Fighting or Psychic
>>59645795the original point of nuzlockes is supposed to be the emotional turmoil and bonds you build. nicknaming isn't optional. you're supposed to grow attached to your mons *because* they can faint at any time. sure, a lot of the fun is teambuilding, planning ahead (or anticipation if it's a hack), and playing more strategically than you otherwise would, but the core part of "Pokemon Hard Mode" is the emotional aspect. you don't have to make comics too (though i reccomend trying it out at least once), but it's surely more than just strategy.>>59645784i often nuzlocke hacks blind, so if yours ends up being any good otherwise, whichever one it is, i look forward to have a heartwrenching loss
Need some opinions. The game I'm creating is not a full-region game, but meant to be a short self-contained adventure type deal. There are absolutely no Fakemon, just a select batch from Gens 1 - 9.What battle UI should I use? The vanilla one that comes with Essentials by default or EBDX?
>>59646111If you're insistent on such, you might have to go Fairy/Flying.
>>59646111>that would make it weak to GMoltresRegular Lugia was already weak to Articuno and Zapdos.
>>59646130Actually Dragon would work too now that I think about it>>59646141Yeah but due to the flying type, not the Psychic type, there's layers to this shit
>>59646144Weak is weak. Ho-oh's primary typing loses to Suicune.
>>59646111do you at least understand why it is an extremely stupid idea to even consider in the first place? for reasons beyond just autism
>>59645826You solved the case, did you play the game?
>>59646148I know Shadow Lugia and Lugia are one and the same, but there's more than one Lugia, and the Galarian birds are also said to either be completely unrelated to the originals or that's what they originally looked like. I can shalk it up to the environment it inhabits having changed how it turned out.
>>59646184design your own "galarian lugia" then. using something completely unrelated just to ride the coattails of something "cool and recognizable" is about as retarded as using the galarian legendary birds in a setting that isn't galar.surely you aren't also doing that either, right?
>>59646191I am, the Galatians birds are migratory, they only meet up to fight over the fruits in the Galarian territory and are otherwise roamers. They state that in the game.>design your own "galarian lugia" then. But why wouldn't I use something cool and recognizable that isn't considered canon to mainline games? Shadow Lugia is just proof that Lugia can change it's looks when subjected to different conditions.
>>59646191>using the galarian legendary birds in a setting that isn't galar.Aren't they described to go around the world despite the "Galarian" title? Honestly I myself was going to do that in a game about the Sevii Islands, where getting the three Legendary Birds was neccessary for something but you get mislead into getting their Galarian forms, playing into how their dex entries might imply that they were mistaken for their Kantonian counterparts.
>>59646198>why wouldn't i be an idealess hack who can only make kitchen sink slopsorry for doubting you sir won't happen again, you're right. you should just use whatever recognizable imagery you can and call it a feature. be sure to include a ghost pikachu and mosslax form too
Are there games out there that use less chibi-ish sprites and have overworld sprites more akin to... I guess in terms of solely referencing Pokemon games, Pokemon Ranger?
>>59646228>ghost PikachuBut it's just pale.>Moss SnorlaxBut it's just normal.Rotom Stereo however...
>>59637237not a hack, but I feel like gpx plus is an honorable mention
>>59646208The brids are weird in general, they're called regional forms and the ancient Galarians named them after the Kanto birds due to confusing their signature traits for those of the Kanto birds, but they're actually far closer to convergents because they're technically not the same species, except convergents didn't yet exist and have different names, and GameFreak doesn't like retconning things unless their hand is ABSOLUTELY forced, so they're still considered regionals.
romhacks or fangames, call it
please recommend a game based on Hoenn region, so far I've tried Seaglass and Inclement Emerald, and they are not good..no fakemons pls.Basically I'd like something like Heart and Soul but for Hoenn.
>>59645921>good
>>59646390Star Emerald, but it's Moemon only
>>59646302both have pros and cons. While fan games don't have size limitations and have more freedom with coding, I still prefer playing rom hacks for their stability, frame rate and ability to run on real hardware. If someone were to ever to have a breakthrough and find a way to get essentials to run on a 3DS I'll probably flip, but no way in hell that's ever happening, even with AI.
>>59646390Eris Emerald. Just don't enable the randomization at the start.
