Every decision on XY and XY&Z was about Alain and how to glorify him. They took Red and his battle against an underground mafia and his desire to be champion, and twisted him into a dork with lines on his face, who hates evolving his Pokémon, didn't fairly win a single one of his badges, aimed for the horn, and eventually lost to somebody else's Pikachu because his own Charizard didn't respect him. The Origins series and the BW2 marketing anime shows us that *somebody* in this franchise is *capable*, they just...don't want to commit.
