I remember when the gen 2 games (og and remake) were considered the best games in the franchise

why do young pokemon fans today think it's one of the worse games in the series?
>>
>>59641426
Sour grapes by hoennbabies when ORAS cut a lot of content and people brought up that HGSS had Crystal content when they tried to excuse it with "they're Ruby and Sapphire remakes, not Emerald ones". Started a whole hate campaign, and now you have a whole generation of fans who were too young to grow up on any Johto iteration so they don't know any better.
>>
>>59641426
Because nearly everyone who's actually played them has aged out of the franchise. For reference the REMAKE is nearly twice as old as the average pokemon fan. So most pokemon fans know next to nothing about gen 2 in depth, shills and trolls can use it as easy scapegoat for the franchise's problems and those fans will swallow their lies.
>>
>>59641426
Because Pokemon go is the only game they have ever heard of, (not that Pokemon go is bad) I mean, all the newer fans just care about the new games it’s not even that they hate them, they just basically never heard of them
>>
If a game isn’t getting consistently updated and non of there friends play them, why play it in the first place?
>>
>>59641426
They were groomed into being trannies
>>
>>59641426
Ugly designs.
The Kanto mons are unironically the saving grace.
And the Pokémon themselves are a huge reason I play these games.
>>
>>59641426
The amazing new designs not getting much focus
The overabundance Kanto mons are unironically the only flaw .
And lack of new Pokémon themselves is the only reason these games are hard to play
>>
>>59641461
I know this is ragebait but go kill yourself regardless.
>>
>>59641426
You're trying to lump the Gen 4 remakes in with G/S.
HGSS are some of the best games in the series. G/S are not good

t. older gen z
>>
>>59641517
addendum
"not good" was a little harsh, but they're basically unplayable if you've played HGSS. The remakes are an upgrade in every way. ORAS and Emerald are an example where this isn't true. Emerald is still worth playing even though ORAS exists.

as the only actual zoomer in this thread:
gen 2 is alright. it's got the same retro charm and streamlined mechanics as gen 1 but is more in line with later games. and the level curve mostly isn't an issue because badge boosts exist.
HGSS are steaming dogshit. they bring in the frustrating EV and nature systems from gen 3, the pokegear is a piece of garbage, the safari zone is aids, and the doubling down on time-gated events means you're constantly getting cockblocked whenever you try to do anything. and no, following pokemon do not make it good. neither does reusing the frontier from platinum. pokeathalon i can see the appeal of but it's not my thing.
>>
>>59641426
I think part of it is that they're just designed to be played very differently to how most people play games nowadays. They're slow paced, almost sim-like. There's a lot of time-gated stuff, you're supposed to get immersed in it and play it slowly over a long period of time. It's game design that makes sense for people who might only have short windows of opportunity to play throughout the day: like a kid playing it in the morning before school, booting it up with friends at recess, then a little bit more before dinner, and a bit more before bed. And you play like that over the course of a couple months.

But people don't play games like that anymore. They just binge games and try to complete them as fast as possible. So the same things that used to make it immersive, now just feel like it's disrespecting their time. People arent gonna wait until the evening to rematch a gym leader anymore, they're just gonna change the clock and do it now. People don't want to spend 3 months slowly progressing through a game, they want to beat it in 3 days and move on. Gen 2 just isn't meant to be played that way.
>>
>>59641426
Because theyre insanely butthurt they didnt get to experience first-hand kino Pokemania. They can only remember Gen 5 and maybe gens 3 or 4 when no one gave a shit about Pokemon and the games' quality nosedived despite the better tech. It's sad to see really, poor lil bastards were born into the dark ages and they never stood a chance.
>>
>>59641553
there are plenty of people who want to immerse themselves in a game and slowly chip away at it over several months, but they play shit like animal crossing or MMOs or make forever worlds in minecraft. they don't play RPGs. and people who do play RPG expect the game to be ready for you as soon as you're ready for it.
>>
>>59641565
That's fair and the games are definitely an oddity within the genre and the series for being designed that way. But people weren't playing them back then because they were rpg fans, they were playing them because they were Pokemon fans. And that design did work for games that were on hand held, and primarily played by kids, who like I described, had a lot of short windows to play games. As a kid, you were not often sitting down and playing Gameboy for 4 hours straight. Maybe on rare occasions, but most of the time it was like a few minutes here, a few minutes there, a half an hour there. I don't wanna say "you just had to be there" because that's a cop out...but you kind of did have to be there.
>>
>>59641543
You're not going to convince newer fans gen 2 is good by shitting on HGSS.
>>
>>59641647
i loathe anyone who would get their opinions from me instead of playing the games themselves
>>
>>59641426
Because to this date, there has never been such a jump in quality and such an improvement on gameplay then the transition from gen one to gen two. No other game in this franchise shows as much improvement from its predecessor and never will again.

G/S serves as a constant reminder that the games they play are soulless slop and Pokemon will never return to the passion it once had. If zoomies want to make money by making silly faces in a world of shock and reaction, they need to act like Pokemon is consistently improving and 3D is great. G/S is the slap in the face that it’s not and so there will forever be campaign specifically against that gen.
>>
>>59642236
>there has never been such a jump in quality and such an improvement on gameplay then the transition from gen one to gen two.
Gen IV to Gen V. I don't care how much revisionism and nostalgia people try to wrap around Sinnoh, it was ASS in exploration and engine quality.
>>

Later slopgens could never.

Everyone has a different cutoff point.
Some people say gen 3 is the end of Pokémania and was origoinally supposed to be the final game.
Some people say it's gen 4 because they didn't have a DS or because the gen 4 games look a little ugly.
A lot of people say gen 5 because of five particular Pokémon designs and hating gen 5 is a meme.
Some people say gen 6 because the move to 3D killed it.
Very few people still liked gen 7 for the story and say gen 8 was the end.
It's amusing.
>>
>>59641543
>they bring in the frustrating EV and nature systems from gen 3

And with this, I've found the core problem with Zoomer's relationship with old Pokémon. They literally hate that the older games have to be investments and personal projects as well as forcing to you to put more consideration into the Mons you pick. They can't stand Pokémon expanding its mechanics because it's "too much" to the point where it actually gets them exhausted and upset
>>
>>59642464
least obvious bort post
>>
>>59642466
Zoomers are like "Okay yes. Get Mankey. I will get mank- wait I have to care whether it's adamant or jolly NOOOOOOOO"
>>
>>59642466
>They literally hate that the older games have to be investments and personal projects as well as forcing to you to put more consideration into the Mons you pick.
You mean having to levelgrind CHAAAARIZAAARD for 20 minutes instead of 5 minutes to crush the league?
If Pokémon is an "investment and personal project", is Mario and Luigi a career level commitment because you actually need to learn some gameplay mechanics?
I hate the gen 1 and 2 games because they are kinda ugly, buggy and have bad sound and the GBA and DS remakes are better and more fun.
>>
>>59642474
>If Pokémon is an "investment and personal project", is Mario and Luigi a career level commitment because you actually need to learn some gameplay mechanics?

LMAO no literally just take the time if you want good Mons zoomie
>>
>>59642474
>he needs to grind in pokemon to begin with
>>59642460
this except hgss is the best game in the series and the final form of what pokemon SHOULD be
>>
>>59642451
>hgss to bw
i can't think of a bigger nosedive in quality
>>
>>59641426
As an actual zoomer i liked crystal a lot when i played it. The graphics and music are nice, and there's a real feeling of being allowed to wander around basically however you want. The only things I have against GSC are how a lot of native Johto mons are locked until the postgame, and the fact that almost everything seems to be just a little lower-level than it should be.
HGSS is great too. I like the gen 4 mechanics and they add a lot of cool stuff to games that were already packed with cool stuff.
Not my personal favorite pokemon games, but definitely understandable if it's yours.
>>59642466
>>59641543
Maybe if the games were harder, you'd have to pay attention to IVs, EVs and natures, but they really only matter in competitive play. Most people will just over-level or catch a mon with a type advantage if they're losing, since that doesn't require you to have multiple wiki pages open at all times.
>>
>>59642451
Gen 5's changes are mostly quality-of-life improvements and polishing up the presentation. Gen 3 to gen 4 is a much bigger leap honestly, if only for the physical/special split.
>>
>>59642494
>native Johto mons
well that's the thing, they aren't native Johto mons. it's easy to get mixed up since the current design philosophy from gen 3 onward is "the new pokemon are the pokemon native to this region" but the gen 2 dex was just shit that had been newly discovered since the events of gen 1.
now is it still kinda retarded that sneasel and misdreavus aren't obtainable until the very final dungeon of the game? and that while misdreavus was made available earlier in hgss, sneasel wasn't despite it being in ice path in crystal? yeah, kinda. but not to the point where the game is actively much worse for it, it's only such a noticeable flaw to begin with because it's in such a kickass game
>>
>>59641426
>why do young pokemon fans today think it's one of the worse games in the series?
Changing priorities in what constitutes a good Pokemon game.

Also people who played the games as kids aging out of the franchise.
>>
>>59641553
>They're slow paced, almost sim-like.
What? They are way, WAY faster than most early gens.
>>
>>59641426
>makes up fake scenario
why do johtotroons like to do this?
>>
>>59642514
That makes sense. Having started with gen 3 I never realized that. I just remember seeing a lot of the cool gen 2 designs like Houndour and looking up where to get them and being frustrated that they were shoved to random corners of Kanto, and how many Kanto mons populated Johto.
In being sore about that, I missed out on appreciating Johto's great pokemon distribution, which is still among the best in the series. It's especially impressive coming from gen 1 where it takes a while to get out of Pidgey-Rattata-Caterpie hell.
>>
>>59641426
I like GSC and HGSS. I am '98 so dunno if zoomer or not
>>
>>59642475
If you mean breeding by that, it's a braindead activity that takes no skill, isn't fun but just wastes a lot of your time.
If you really need that 31 IV Pokémon, just have some self respect and hack it in.
>>
>>59642557
another detail i completely missed that I really like in Johto is how tuning in to the radios in random NPC houses will tell you areas where certain mons can be found.
