I think adding the ability to get Rayquaza before post-game gives you an easy mode option and trading Steven for Wallace was a huge mistake. Other than that, it's definitely the definitive way to play through Hoenn

I don't think it's very different than Ruby or Sapphire, and some of the change only make it worse like Wallace being a worse champion, but people seem to think it's in a league of its own while vanilla RS are seen as just ok at best. It's weird. Only major upgrade if you'd call it that is the battle frontier which I also don't think is all that. More fun than the Gen 4 battle frontier at least. They had a great opportunity to make the battle frontier really cool in the remakes but instead they were jewish and gay

And battle frontier is neat and all but that's not enough to make a C tier game suddenly SSS+ tier
I would say this is the end of what I consider classic Pokemon

>>59652149i've done like 10+ replays of emerald romhacks over the past year (mostly seaglass although i'm doing a legacy enhanced playthrough now). i like the region a lot and it's refreshing after doing like 10+ firered romhack playthroughs. the original game probably sucks dick though
>>59652149cool game that i probably would've had way more fun with as a kid there's loads of post game stuff. but being an early gen pokemon game much of the pokedex being next to impossible to actually complete sours that a little. also getting rayquaza before you've even done the 8th gym badge was very silly, you can cheese the rest of the game with it. also pokeblocks/contests aren't explained well and kid-me would not have understood how that worked at allthere's loads of emerald romhacks out there that scratch the itch if you're somehow not satisfied woth the base game, but 70ish hours in i've gotten way more than i thought i would've out of it. i think what i liked most out of emerald is that the progression throughout was paced just about perfectly and even of you waste time overlevelling amd grinding to cheese through the main game it's enough fun to at least beat the game and hunt for some of the legendaries / look for feebas if you're crazy

It's a great game but the main campaign is a side grade from RS, most of the glory comes from the post game which I won't care about when it hits the e-Shop.

It was a crime that most of these weren't integrated into ORAS like the Crystal ones were in HGSS. This is coming from someone who actually likes ORAS too. But this is such a flaw that I can't view ORAS as anywhere near the same as HGSS in terms of quality.

GSC and DPPT get somewhat close, but both still have gates or load zones. The funny part is, I've played ORAS so often that I know exactly where the map of hoenn in those games cuts off compared to RSE. It really does make me appreciate the work that went into it

Green color palettes are great. Being completely serious. It looks nice on the game's natural environments. Brendan with the green headband was my favorite character as a kid.I hope they release this game with the Mew ticket.
