XY was a terrible series that severely undermined the tone of the anime and tried to appeal to people who wanted it to "Grew up" and "Be a real anime"I know this because that is how XY fans describe it themselves. For them the idea of an "Anime" is just shonen, so copying shonen tropes legitimizes Pokemon. This entire series was a mistake from start to finish, everything in it was done better in other franchises.
