I find being in punching distance makes for a pretty good immediate deterrent, that and the social aspect pretty much means the only people likely to do stuff like that are autistic retards, and why would you trade with them in the first place?

A couple of times over wifi trades, never irl. I did have a kid disconnect the link cable when he was losing a battle one time back then though.
