Why Pokémon BW is a misunderstood masterpiece:

So much so that I'm considering going back and playing black 1 after I finish (I skipped it back in the day).Not a fan of how much the story drags you around from place to place and doesn't get out of the way as much as it did in previous games, but the mechanics, music, level design, pokemon selection, and actual halfway challenging gyms are all stellar. It's also not as bad as what would come after.

The side content I'm personally interested in is stuff that ties back to the core of exploring, battling, and catching, rather than kind of gimmicky content like contests.>>59699886It was never perfect, but I'd have loved to see them keep trying to improve the Frontier in each game, especially as competitively viable mons got easier to obtain with each generation. Sure each game still has a battle tower/tree/subway whatever, but it was fun to see them get creative with different formats and dedicate a huge area to the competitive aspect of the game.One thing I really like in at least BW2 so far is how they integrate the battle facilities and competitive items into a normal playthrough. Most of the games, both before and after, will just not allow you to get any held items outside berries until after you've beaten the game and gotten some BP from the facility. I like how in these games you can find competitive items and good TMs just by exploring, and you're allowed to do the Battle Subway and World Tournament during your playthrough with more opening up the further you progress. Plus the facilities give you stuff like evolution stones that are useful for a normal playthrough so you're encouraged to try it out.
