>>59698993Big fan of the color variations
>>59698993game is extremely comfy and sovlful. though i will say i buy into the premise that the game is larping as a real early 2000's mainline game from an alternate timeline. playing blind and discovering things like kids before the internet is fun. the graphics and especially the OST are really well done, and the attention to detail is very impressive. there are lots of little bits of dialogue and side things you can completely miss just blitzing through and not investigating everything, backtracking often, etc.i get why it's not landing with some people but for the right audience the game is easily romhack of the year, no notes. it really brings me back to classic hacks like light platinum that defined what original romhacks could be like, before the difficulty subgenre really took off.

>>59701352The only thing I dislike so far is mandatory hms and the lack of documentation otherwise it's a 10/10 extremely solid hackPart of me feels like they should've just went all fakemons, so far the old pokemon seem kinda unnecessary to this game, unless they're getting secret cross gen evos and the likes I'm not aware of yet.
>>59698993This is better than winds and waves is gonna be
>>59701377>mandatory hmsto be fair you can immediately replace the move with something else, there's move relearners at every pokemon center, and you can still use the HM even if the move isn't actually on your pokemon's moveset
>>59701387>and you can still use the HM even if the move isn't actually on your pokemon's movesetSheeeit I didn't know this. Will test out tomorrow
>>59701377>lack of documentationThis is where you come on Reddit and 4chan to discuss things like we used to before someone made a gamefaq
>>59701448Not even necessary, there are already several sources of documentation. People mined the data within hours using AI. Take your pick:https://merry-hamster-48dd08.netlify.app/https://dexdb.io/monomyth/I get the idea behind withholding docs but it is honestly just futile in this day and age.
>>59698993This game is Legendary. Six years in the making, and it has paid off. Very few nitpicks/grievances I have.
>>59701328>Israel Defense Forces devsSo, based ?
>these game corner prices just to get metal coat or evo stones in this game's economysadly already splurged all my heist money on ditto.time for bed, i guess. great game so far, though. had me hooked.
putting aside the inevitability of information being datamined rather quickly, skipping out on docs to enhance mystique is pretty silly considering the games were designed with the strategy guides in mind since at least GSC. here especially, it harms veteran players as evolution methods for established mons are changed/added. originally, i skipped out on the bonsly line until i found out it got an obscure evolution from one of the links above..
>>59701542That's why the first gym leader's ace is a bomb because he likes to bomb children (you, the player)
DEI what a shame.
>>59701377>>Part of me feels like they should've just went all fakemons, so far the old pokemon seem kinda unnecessary to this game, unless they're getting secret cross gen evos and the likes I'm not aware of yet. This is one of my biggest complaints with romhacks or fangames that add in new pokemon. It should either be all fakemon only or all gamefreak pokemon only. Mixing the two creates tonal whiplash between what you are used to and know as official pokemon and what you are discovering for the first time and know to be made up by fans.

>>59701377>>59702412I think the tonal whiplash isn't the fault of new vs existing. Its that the new designs... aren't very good. There's some cardinal rules for Pokemon designs (I've seen a great breakdown, but dont have on-hand) that a lot of these new ones immediately go beyond. Most lean towards overdesigned, but some others really needed a 2nd or 3rd pass to just hone in what the design needed. The new evos to old emphasize this well. Some I kinda like ( Starmie & Magcargo ) with interesting concepts and maybe a bit weird but weird enough to accept. But others like Sudowoodo or Poli really really REALLY feel off, feel incoherent to the original family (see Cinccino ), and feel like they'd be critiqued to hell in a fakemon thread. Only one evo (and frankly one new Pokemon at all) got a fuck yeah from me and that was Druddigon. The part that's most disappointing about all this is some of the classic mons get FANTASTIC new sprites. Exploud, Poliwrath (Red inspired), Toxicroak, Tangrowth, all top-tier sprite work. If 10% of the new mons had that level of visible personality, maybe they'd get past their design woes. But they don't.

Is Monomyth really that good it deserves its own general?
>>59698993I don't fucking trust any western made romhack with an original plot, 99% of the time they inserted fucking politics.
the GBA soundfont is pretty ass in every conceivable way but even i cannot resist the midi guitars
>>59701377>>59702412>Part of me feels like they should've just went all fakemonsAgreed. Meme hacks are the only "complete" romhacks in recent memory that fully committed to fakemons, which is a little sad. Ever since Covid it feels like fakemon creators in general are OCD about trying hard to make things "seem official" and lately they've only been designing regional variants slop.
>>59702683The Poliwhirl and Sudowoodo evos suck, I agree. I liked the Druddigon one too, but the most fitting was Magcargo's imo. The issue you have with the posework is more about how the design needs to be conveyed. Fakemon inherently have to be in a pose that shows off what the design looks like. Something that we're familiar with like Toxicroak can afford to be in a funky pose now, but if this were shown to a new player they wouldn't accurately gauge the form of the poison sac or the bands on its lower body. It's sorta like when that guy hacked XY right after it released and only showed Hoopa and Volcanion from one angle, so all the early fanart of them ended up getting their other details wrong. One of the only gen 3 mons that wasn't in a "just standing and facing left" pose in RSE was Kyogre, which could afford it due to being shown in full on the box. Maybe some could have gotten away with it, like how picrel from PD is in a dynamic pose but can afford to be drawn this way due to how the front of its body is mostly a flat banner.
>>59702683>There's some cardinal rules for Pokemon designsmy asshole
>>59702687there are black people
>>59702766literally a digimon design
>>59702683One of the issues with the designs is that they all lean hard into trying to be badass or ugly, like they were designed by and exclusively for teenage boys. Meanwhile actual Pokemon try to appeal to women and younger people in general too, so they have cutesy or girlish or just normal looking ones. That shit is almost absent from this, everything is trying to be super cool or freakish in a way that often doesn't feel Pokemon.
