So, the 30th Anniversary three-volume Artbook is gonna show the original Ken Sugimori concept art for the Johto Gym Leaders for the first time.Although not in Teraleak, the existence of such art was obvious since ever, as it was the base for:-The Stadium portraits-The anime settei (seen in Teraleak, aside from Falkner)-The (rarely-seen) colored anime Johto GL stock art,which all show the Leaders in more-or-less consistent poses.So far, they teased four of them.I made this ugly but informative spreadsheet of all known iterations, which should be a hint of how the remaining four look like.I've no idea why Falkner's anime settei is missing from the Teraleak. But I am sure that somebody (possibly Pokescans) once scanned a Japanese-only book full of settei for the early Johto episodes (I remember it having the settei for the spider creature from Gligarman episode, among others), which probably included Falkner's settei, but I wasn't able to re-find it. I've looked through Pokescans's Tumblr entire archive and found nothing (found only scans from an analogous book but for Kanto), so I'm not even quite sure if it was her (I remember those scans bearing the same "meh" picture quality like most of her pics) but many of her posts were DMCA'd, so anything's possible. Does anyone still have this? I'm mad at myself for not saving it back in the day.Anyway, do you expect much never-before-seen stuff in the new Artbooks? Or is it going to be a letdown? >>59700358On a side note, it seems highly likely that a similar fullbody art exist for Janine, as she also has an unused anime settei that is consistent with her Stadium portraits.Doesn't mean that it'll be published in the book, but I've got my fingers crossed.As for the returning Kanto GLs, for Gen II we have only their VS Set and Stadium 2 portraits, which are very different.VS Set arts are pretty clearly considered as card art by GF, rather than game art, so I'm pretty positive they won't be in the book (which is devastating because we've never seen them in proper. Sure, there are HiResPokemon restorings, which are great, but they're "frankensteined" from different sources and may still feature minor inaccuracies. That's not the same as having them revealed by an official source, especially that we don't have Bruno and Koga fully restored due to missing material).As for Stadium portraits, obviously Sugimori must have drawn at least the monochrome face/half-body arts (we have them in Teraleak but only for select Trainer Classes). But if they're partial, uncolored and drawn specifically for Stadium, I guess they won't be in the book.Also, note that Blaine reuses his Stadium portrait in Stadium 2 and Blue has no known Gen II imagery (reused in Stad2, not featured in VS at all).As for the Elite Four. Will and Karen are an interesting case because their Stadium portraits are consistent with their VS art. To me it's an indication that both of those might have been based on the same settei that was digitally colored and first published for VS Set.Koga and Bruno both reuse their Stadium portraits in Stad2 and aren't much redesigned from RGBY, so I'm more inclined to believe that they were drawn from scratch for VS Set specifically.
