>the first hoops game for the NES/FC, a port of a Konami arcade game but retitled Exciting Basketball in Japan to be consistent with the rest of their Famicom sports games
>a huge US hit everyone had, but only a so-so seller in Japan as hoops didn't have much of a following there in the 80s
>obviously a game meant for the US market as it came out here in two months of the Japanese release, which was also for the FDS and cut down and lacking a number of things including the cutscenes
>they try to get full 5 player teams on here but the NES can't pull it off without tons of sprite flicker
>oh well, this isn't a PS3 so they did the best they could

not an issue on the ZX Spectrum i reckon as there's no hw sprites or scanline limits
>>
>>12584481
me, i find the cutscenes annoying as they just slow you down and interrupt the flow of the game
>>
emulation solves a lot of the issues with Double Dribble

>disable scanline limit, get rid of flicker
>use Rewind when you miss a basket

Not the first console basketball game, Sega's Great Basketball was out before it but that one is pretty much kusoge.

Nobody has played this game I think.

I remember basketball fans of the era liked it right up until that Jordan vs. Bird: One-on-One game released, then that was THE basketball game on the NES.

Sales should be proof, DD was hugely popular in the US and sold around a million copies. Probably helped that it was the only basketball game on the system for a year and a half.
>>
>>12584859
Bigger than that, it sold about 2 million copies. It was in the top 20 best selling NES games.

The Japanese version had no speech samples either. It's cut down because the FDS had 112k of space while the cartridge version was 128k so that extra 16k made for a big difference.

as he said, it was definitely meant for the US market and they only put out a Famicom release to make a few extra bucks

EVERY. SINGLE. FAMIBOT THREAD. This EXACT same pattern happens
>OP blogposting with generalities or errors
>the first post or one of the firsts talks about the ZX Spectrum
>a few posts down the line someone complains about "Famibot"
>another few post down the thread gets bumped by counting the number of replies and claiming "nobody played this game"

All with a 2 hours period.
Just check the catalog, or wait for the next thread, and you'll see this exact pattern repeat again and again. What are the chances that this is several posters and that they just happen to always be there so this exact pattern repeats the same way every time? Absolutely none.
