Nintendo fucked themselves over by marketing their console with such a terribly generic name, nobody ever says they're gaming on their "Entertainment System". This went all the way up to the 64 before they figured maybe they should name their consoles something other than their brand plus a generic product definition or number.
I think Nintendo was angry at parents just generically calling every game system "his Nintendo" because they are petty and hated the association with Sega consoles.
