Never before has the phenomenon of people buying shit and only playing it for five minutes been more obvious. This thing so clearly needed active cooling, it only takes about an hour to overheat and stop working. Never had this happen in the thousands of hours I've used my standard MiSTer setup, because that actually has a fan. It's bullshit that it has so much coverage yet not a single person has played long enough to experience this, do people even play video games anymore? This has been your public service announcement, you're welcome.
>>12585008That's the market for these FPGA consoles, middle aged fans who like the idea of playing these games, have they money to spend, but are time poor.
>>12585027I just wanted a MiSTer in a fancy case without the shitty USB bridge mine has and with a 24-bit DAC. What I got was shelf candy that blackscreens in less than an hour of playing the PSX core. Feels like I fell for an actual scam. Everyone should just assemble their own MiSTer and not rely on crap like this.
>>12585008So this just overheats 100% of the time?I was interested in this but was confused why they offered an OPTIONAL fan. Damn, I'll just keep emulating then.
>>12585008>do people even play video games anymore?People only buy these things to make youtube videos about them or just to have on a shelf in the background.
>>12585089>So this just overheats 100% of the time?In my experience, yes. It took literally ten minutes last time it happened. Just booted it up and started playing some Wipeout and BAM, black screen. It persisted even after reboot until the unit cooled down enough. Fucking ridiculous, again this shit never happens with a well built MiSTer setup. Maybe mine is just defective, or maybe people don't actually play games. Both are equally likely I think.
>>12585094There is a way to install a fan into it though, right? Maybe try that at least.
>>12585096There's a fan header on the board, but I don't know where I'd mount it. It's kind of a sealed unit with little ventilation, it's just asking for heat issues.
>>12585101https://retroremake.co/products/superstation%E1%B5%92%E2%81%BF%E1%B5%89-active-cooling-add-onLooks like it's supposed to mount on the heat sink, like a cpu fan on your computer, that's sold out atm which is telling though lol.
>>12585008Take the shell off and use it that way. It won't overheat as bad.
>>12585008Often I look a things and tell myself I'll buy it at some point, and then I never do. Good thing this was one of those times.
>>12585008You probably have the wrong power cord, I've heard nothing about them overheating, I can't even find a single other post on the internet mentioning it.Just more misinformation from butthurt sour grapes anti-MiSTer shill retard
I only have a standard MiSTer too, but I have not heard a single story of the SuperStation overheating. I tried searching review sites, random other sites, forums, youtube, even fucking reddit and could not find a single instance of anyone saying their SuperStation would overheat.

considering the fact that they literally sell thishttps://retroremake.co/products/superstation%E1%B5%92%E2%81%BF%E1%B5%89-active-cooling-add-onon their website, I'd say OP is on the money, about buyers not even using this console for more than 10 minutes
>>12585854Lmao that's not how it works. It's not working like a pump, it's not forcing electrons into the device. Holy shit learn some basic fundamentals of electronics before you try to correct someone you mong.

>>12585828As long as it's 5 volts it'll charge just fine. The only time you'll run into an issue is if the charger doesn't provide enough current, then it either not charge at all or you'll cause the charger to overheat depending on the design. You could could plug a 5 voltage led array that draws 400ma into a 5v 1000amp power supply and it would work just fine as long as the array itself is fine.
>>12585110Fucking penny pinchers
>>12585239>I tried searching review sites, random other sites, forums, youtube, even fucking reddit and could not find a single instance of anyone saying their SuperStation would overheat.I looked as well before making this thread. The only conclusion I can come to is that people genuinely don't play games for more than a few minutes. They buy things just to take a photo of the title screen before returning to their doom scrolling.
My final test with this piece of shit was as follows: different power supply, stock SD card that came with it, proper Playstation 1 bios, redump copy of Wipeout. I simply left it to idle in the attract mode and within 20 fucking minutes it crapped out. The fact that the bottom of the unit is scorching hot and not a single other person has reported this flaw is insane. I recorded it but there isn't much to see, just the attract mode for 20 minutes, then my capture card saying no signal. On a CRT the result is a little more spectacular since it keeps trying to output a signal with black lines appearing on the screen. For the record it also crashed in the same way with Tiny Bullets and Harmful Park, so it's not an issue with the game. It also won't boot at all, even into the menu system when it's this hot.Retro content creators really have zero credibility for me after this, not that I necessarily viewed them as trustworthy before, but fuck man they literally will market junk as working.
>>12585972Retard
I wanted to get one of those "affordable" SuperStations because of the available composite and 240p output from the get go, but the fact that they keep it secrecy whenever they make new batches and 99% of the time they are stuck in SOLD OUT / OUT OF PRINT for like half a year and with all that hipster flashy WOOOOOOWie website design, made me feel like something was very off about this thing.
>>12585986Tranny
Why not just buy a used PlayStation? They're cheap as fuck and really easy to repair and mod. I think a modchip install is only like 6 solder points. The entire optical assembly can be replaced on AliExpress for $20 and requires zero technical skills.

I didnt understand the purpose of this. I have a MisterPi and it works great. This thing doesnt even have SNAC support(except ps1) without the extra base. The only interesting thing was having all of the video out adapters built in.

>>12585868They also sell a cd-drive dock, are you gong to argue that you need to use physical disks too? If OP is "on the money" how come nobody can find a single mention of it overheating anywhere? And before you try to argue absolutely everyone who talked about it was somehow paid off, people slammed the creator over just the name Mister Pi, he would have been raked over the coals if it was unusable because it keeps overheating.>>12585907>As long as it's 5 volts it'll charge just fine. You really don't know how current works huh? It would not "work just fine" it would not work at all or keep browning out, and battery-based devices if they don't reject the charger outright to having not enough power your battery would still discharge rather than charge, just slightly slower, because it would be providing less power than you are actively using.>>12585972Still zero proof other than your questionable posts. Do you have ANY proof of anyone else having overheating issues? He's pretty good about taking care of defective units. It's almost as if the OP is full of shit and trollingLet me guess, all responses to this will still be "Literally everyone on the planet except me never even played it" and "B-b-b-ut they are selling a fan" while still not posting a single shred of proof?
I just got mine today and even after using it for two hours testing various cores it wasn't even that hotWhat I want to know though is why half the cores would only display in black and white on my tv
>>12586451All I can do is report my experience as a consumer. If it gets hot as hell regardless of what I do, the only real conclusion I can come to is the design itself is flawed. I don't think the unit itself is defective, because it works fine until the overheat happens, that to me indicates a design flaw. This is a niche device in a field full of people that don't use the things they buy very much. If it happened to EVERY unit that would be a design flaw, but it appears to only be happening to yours. I am not seeing a single report of it happening to anyone else.In fact, I spent 10 seconds Googling twitch superstation one and the first result was a stream of someone who played it for nearly 7 hours:https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2769053394Here is a three and a half hour stream:https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2770690275And another three hour stream from the same person:https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2770032798Youtube as well, another three hour video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OuoOBbe_wcoAnd one where someone played just the N64 core, both standard and overclocked versions, on it for three hours:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vta1fCvcobsI could go on, this literally took me just a minute to Google, there are likely several dozen if not over a hundred hours-long videos showing it working fine. Pretty much completely disproves both the "Everyone just put it on a shelf and didn't play it" argument as well as the "they are all defective" argument. Are you now going to try to argue that every single video showing it working fine for hours was a hoax or paid off or some other bullshit like that now?>>12586458How is it connected to your TV? The only possible reason to refuse to contact him and instead create wild easily-disprovable stores that every single unit has a design flaw that makes it unusable AND that absolutely nobody else who bought one noticed because literally nobody else other than OP and OP alone actually tried to play with it for any decent amount of time is because he's making shit up. Who in their right minds would have a problem with something they bought (and I highly suspect OP didn't buy one at all) and their first thought would be "Hmm, not a single other person has this issue, clearly I am the only person on the planet who bought this expensive thing and actually tried to use it, the entire product line must be flawed. Now instead of contacting the person who sold it to me I will instead post on a website that has the last possible chance of anyone who can do anything actually seeing it.">>12586585>I don't use other forms of social media. You can e-mail him too. >>12586742>4th video link shows issues with resolution changes.Uh Oh.
>>12586763Did you try component or some other type of RGB connection? That sounds like you have it set to some sort of component/RGB output. The Mister can't output more than one analog format at once, and AFAIK there is no extra circuitry on the SuperStation to bypass that. You likely have it set to type of component/RGB output and will need to set it to composite or s-video.
>>12586775>goalpost movingWe were talking about OP claiming that the system is completely unusable because it overheats in a few minutes. Even original consoles cause issues with many modern TVs, capture cards, and upscalers when they switch resolutions. Only way to not have that issue is to play it on a CRT (though that won't solve your capture card having issues) or to use an upscaler that can triple-buffer the video, but that adds latency. Old consoles switching between 240 and 480 were common, especially the 5th gen.
>>12586776I have it on whatever the default settings out of the box areMy tv doesn't have any RGB connections, only composite and svideo. At least most of the cores seem to work normally. I got no idea why a bunch of them are in b&w
