You guys DO get your games graded and slabbed, right?
>>12587276Hell to the nah
how do you play this?
>>12587289The slab can only be opened by breaking it.
>>12587292so why get it graded if you have to break it open anyway?
mental illness
>>12587294To display it and show how perfect of a verified copy you have. If you want to play the game you can just get a loose copy to play.
So you seal your games in an unopenable box? What's the appeal? Who is it for? Objects in museums aren't encapsulated like this, for example, so I imagine it doesn't have anything to do with preservation or display objects.
>>12587298>buying a game you won't playwut
>>12587298That's not how valuable objects are normally displayed, though.
>>12587276games are meant to be played
>>12587276>You guys DO get your games graded and slabbed, right?Nope
>>12587301It's for speculation i.e. gambling so you hope that mint condition copy you have eventually gets sold for tens of thousands of dollars instead of people downloading one for free or buying near mint condition ones for 10 dollars each
>>12587306millions of dollars worth of material in an object purely reserved for the top 0.01% of society vs a 1985 piece of code (that can be downloaded for free online) engraved in plastic and paper
>>12587306You can easily put the graded sealed copy on velvet pedestals like that. And yes items like that are under glass generally, same thing here but it's condition is verified. It's sealed like this once graded so that the case can't be opened and a different bootleg or lesser quality copy out in it. The grading organizations don't want their names put on something they didn't actually grade.
>>12587276Slabs and grading are for two types of people.1) those too insecure who have not yet accepted that times change and entropy takes (but you can still enjoy and venerate the old, just look past the superficial form and into the actual content)2) people disillusioned with the modern prospects in life (at least compared to the last few generations), desperately chasing the next big investment and trying to manifest it by hype and participation aloneJust download a ROM – or get a functioning physical copy and whatever hardware you like – and play the fucking game.
>>12587325Sounds like you're salty you can't afford any graded and slabbed holy grails
>>12587317Imagine if the crown jewels in that picture were individually sealed inside their own, smaller boxes within the display case. That would be weird and unappealing, right?
>Ruined the retro market
>>12587332Your analogy is retarded, they're in a sealed case together.
>>12587276Scam.
>>12587317>The grading organizations don't want their names put onThanks, this is an excellent point. You're talking about a mass produced plastic toy. It's not something inherently valuable like a Picasso painting or a coronation crown, it's a fungible object where the increased value is created entirely by the same speculation market that the "grading organizations" are part of. Even coins, which are pretty mass produced, aren't treated like this (except for their own protection). The idea that an item can be "graded", and yet swapped out without anyone noticing, is hilarious. If a rare coin is in top tier condition, everyone agrees. If it has a certificate, there's no question of it having been swapped out with a lesser-graded alternative, because the difference in condition would be obvious to any appraiser.
>>12587345The grading organizations put their names on things like OP pic, that's what the tag at the top is. They seal it so you can't put in a different copy they didn't personally examine and grade.
>>12587337It would be one thing to display prized items of your collection in a display case. That is pretty normal for any type of collection. It would be a very strange sight, though, if each individual item were sealed in its own transparent enclosure (again, for any type of collection or museum display).
>>12587348Right, what I'm saying is that if you can substitute a different copy, then their "grading" system must be a scam. If no one can tell the difference between the "graded" item and the generic, to the extent that once graded, the item needs to be permanently sealed for the grade to apply, is there a difference?
>>12587352You're retarded
>>12587352The point is they don't want their grading being called into question by some retarded scammer putting a fake or lesser quality copy in it and attempting to sell it, someone seeing it's obviously not that grade and then coming to them asking why they graded a shit or fake copy so high. Do you understand now?
>>12587276No, I don't spend money on scams.
>>12587276I got my graded by WATA yes
>>12589087I'm sorry you fell for it, but at least you just broke the slab and played the game like normal.
