It's a fact that the PlayStation 2 is the peak of the video game industry.
No, it's just that's what you grew up with. For me it peaked with the PSX and every other Sony console is gay garbage.
There are no hardware peaks, because games are the heart of the industry, not hardware.
The PS2 was pretty cool.

>>12591023I grew up with PSX but the library aged really poorly, N64 has more games worth playing despite its raw library only being like 1/10th the size. PS2 just has insane breadth and quality, and they still hold up today for the most part.
>>12591057Don't know what hold up meanA good game is a good game
The SOUL of the PS1 is unmatched
>>12591101good looking 2d games
>>12591017It sure had a lot of good fucking games.>>12591023For me, aside from PC and a Game Boy Pocket, I grew up playing an NES and later N64 in the late 90s, and then a PSX in the early 2000s, and a PS2 eventually, and I thought there was just no end to vidya goodness. (Also emulating SNES and Genesis beginning in the late 90s, consoles which I had missed, but thought were as good, if sometimes not better than PSX and N64).>>12591027Fundamentally, but the good games need something to anchor to.>>12591034It sacrificed some cleanliness of 3D rendering for speed, and it was noticeable next to N64 and many 3D games on PC, but it was kind of just accepted by people that I can recall, because that little wobble and warping was pretty minor (and less apparent on CRTs of the time, especially on composite). Some people are actually fond of that as an aesthetic now though, and you see it deliberately emulated, which I have mixed feelings on personally. Seeing indie games do that feels like if someone were to deliberately emulate the little flaws like the slowdown or flicker like on the NES.That was there at the time just like the polygon wobble/warp on the PSX, and we noticed it, and we (mostly) simply accepted it as a thing that it just did because the good games were good anyway, but it feels like the kind of thing you'd probably want left in the past because why not make your graphics have cleaner and more consistent rendering? CRT/filters or not.

>>12591101I don't think there'll ever be such a magical and revolutionary era for vidya again as the late 1980s to early 2000s. What an absolute explosion of technological development and creativity.

>>12591135Where do you think she is now?
>>12591117> cleanliness of 3DIs cleanliness a synonym for Vaseline smear?Because psx to my eyes was way cleaner than the thick layer of Vaseline covering the screen on machines that had "clean" 3D
>>12591209If you read my post, I'm talking about the texture/polygon wobble/warping, you know, because the PSX ironed out a few things for performance reasons (what was now, vertex positioning wasn't done in decimals?) and that was simply seen as an acceptable tradeoff, because it was.I am generally not that fond of the blurry filtering overall, but many games on N64 were very much inherently built around using it in various ways, like how the Zelda games use overlapping textures which are scaled and blended, and wouldn't work visually without the filtering (kinda like how Resident Evil 3 wouldn't be done any favors if you put a bilinear filter over its graphics, wasn't made for that).
