Small res yes, but blown up to the entire screen. The bigger the play window and the less stuff around it the better, light coming from other things is distracting and soulless. I pity zoomers who only play widescreen with their discord window opened to the side, they don't know what soul is.

if it's with pre-rendered backdrops like your picrel, then yes. because otherwise the high resolution character models comically stick out on the blurry or pixelized backdrops.
sometimes the low res might not only make stuff more cohesive but also hide some imperfections.

For full 3D games, no.
Even for ps1 era graphics I think razor sharp HD rendering is the better poison than a crusty low res image blown up to fullscreen.

you're forced to play low-res with some GOGs like Vangers and KODP. there was a halfassed resolution hack for KODP, don't know if someone made a better one.

No, but I'm also on an LCD, and not a CRT which would scale and anti-alias it better. It'd be fucking great to not have to run 3840x2160 at 140Hz stable for even 'okay' image quality at my monitor size, but here we are.

Only doom. Sometimes I play original 320x200 but 90% of time I play twice that, 640x400
