The Hero Story had a lot more polish than the Dark Story.

Iizuka disliked having 6 separate characters with uneven gameplay content. Sonic has 10 stages, Amy has 3 stages, Big has 4 stages, etc.

For SA2 he wanted to create a playlist where Sonic, Tails and Knuckles had even gameplay content with unique stages for the trio

I always hated the later stages, specifically starting from Hidden Base / Pyramid Cave, every time I see modern Sonic games I just picture those stages and feel like they were inspired by those specifically when making them.

I think that was one of the one or two emblems I didn't get legit when I played SA2B as a kid.
Used Action Replay to cheat in that last emblem so I could see Green Hill Zone, but I think I did the emblem properly afterwards.

What the actual fuck were they thinking to have the hint only be readable for a few fucking seconds? This was back before smartphones too so it’s not like I could just snap a picture. SA2 has an absolute truckload of horrible retarded design decisions but something like that is the cherry on top of the shit sundae that makes you resent the entire Sonic franchise and all the retards at Sonic Team who wasted your time and tricked you into playing a halfassed garbage sequel to an awesome game. Honestly I even enjoyed Sonic 06 more than this dogshit.

I'm convinced that you are meant to use the monitors to find the shards. I think this because they don't just tell you where they are exactly. They give you clues that require knowledge of the stages to figure out. You get punished for using them but it's still possible to get A ranks.

That and the player will eventually figure out all of the spawns for the shards, the game is designed around its replayability. Something of note about the A ranks to add to what you mentioned, it's suspiciously easy to get A ranks except for Security Hall if it's your first time doing the stage, you can waste so many minutes and still get an A no matter the stage.

They only difference between SA2 JP and SA2 USA, Dreamcast and GameCube, is the default language. They're the exact same.

SA1 has various differences between SA1 JP, SA1 USA, SA1 International, SA1 1.005, SADX, etc
