What's the best output available for the gamecube that isn't spending 300 bucks on component cables? Does a wii + component suffice?
>>
>>12591658
Unless you plan on using the Game Boy Player, just play GC games on a Wii
>>
>>12591658
Go with an HDMI converter such as the Carby from Insurrection Industries.
>>
What's the point of getting real hardware if you just want it to look like an emulator?

Composite is maximum sovl.
>>
>>12591661
This is the recommended course of action. If you don't have a first generation Wii, or you just want to play Gamecube games on a Gamecube, then using retrotink's s-video cables is also a good choice.
>>
>>12591658
$30 on aliexpress.
>>
Retroscaler 2x - $70 on Amazon
>>
>>12593195
A scaler's output will only be as good as what you feed it
It won't look sharp if you feed it composite

Nigger, even the SNES had official S-Video output support
>>
>>12591658
If starting from scratch, just get a Wii plus component cables. If you already have a GC with a digital out, then look around for some aftermarket component or HDMI cables, depending on your setup. I purchase Insurrection Industry's component cables back when they sold them and they work fine for me.
>>
>>12591661
Hell, I would rather emulate GBA on the Wii than use the Gameboy Player
>>
>>12593215
Which barely anyone used
>>
>>12593223
>I'll use the inferior option because most people did
>>
>>12593224
I think composite is the best. It's a happy medium between RF and S-Video. Not too grainy, not to sharp. Just right for retro feel.
>>
>>12593215
I use S-Video on my Gamecube and Dreamcast cause it makes /vr/ seethe.
>>
>>12593228
Composite is blurry shit I'd never go under S-Video.
>>
>>12593215
Nah this looks worse. You don't want perfectly crisp pixels. That's unholy.
>>
>>12593232
Pixels are supposed to have some blur.
>>
>>12593235
No they aren't.
>>
>>12593239
Yes they are.
>>
>>12593241
>>12593215
>>
>>12593243
Nintendo offers options that look worse. Both RF and S-Video look worse than Composite which is perfect.
>>
>>12593235
>Pixels are supposed to have some blur
Then why did 2D arcade games output clean RGB?
>>
>>12593247
Nintendo offers cables for the poor and high end cables for enthusiasts who know what they're doing.
>>
>>12593249
Arcade games are for niggers who sit 1 inch away from the CRT.
>>
>>12593257
Why not enjoy blurry composite from a inch away?
>>
>>12593263
Because pixels are supposed to be view from some distance away

Not sure how autistic you are but this is a photoshoot in case you can't tell
>>
>>12593249
Because they recycled components from older boards instead of fitting in new composite connections
>>
>>12593249
This is irrelevant to video output on home console games.
>>
>>12593234
S-video isn't "perfectly crisp." It's the perfect balance for some consoles imo.
>>
>>12593289
I just tested this myself on the SNES with DKC. S-Video makes the pixels noticeably blockier in a way that looks worse.
>>
>>12593302
Now try with a game that has actual pixel art like SMW
>>
>>12591658
For me its a wii U with nintendont... it does something to the image that just place nice with my tv and doesnt look like blurry shit
>>
just go to aliexpress and buy this: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005821394882.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.18.6a5418027aWn3W (needs digital out port)
Also get a https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005009974215799.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.5.6a5418027aWn3W to load games from a microsd card. It's easy.
>>
>>12591658
I've seen some of the autists on GBATemp say a GC with the official component cables gives the best picture quality for GC games, somehow even better than playing on Wii. I don't remember how it's supposed to be better but if you actually care you can probably search it.
And it goes without saying that HDMI converters are dog shit since they just take the component signal and convert it, witch degrades the quality compared to just using component. You'll also want to use a TV that supports native 720p.
>>
>>12593223
>make up claim
>>
>>12594036
Most TVs in the US at least only had RF when the SNES was released. Anything requiring even composite had to go through the VCR, which usually did have some additional inputs but the signal was still going to the TV through RF. S-Video didn't become common until later on.
>>
>>12593224
Literally yes. Its what the devs assumed you would use.
>>
>>12593249
It was cheaper. Composite circuits cost money. Its why the genesis had notoriously rough composite output. Sega bought cheap parts but knew they had to have composite output since thats what everyone had.
>>
>>12593171

As a composite-preferrer, to be fair, I can see why people don't use it for gen 6. It's all 480i and can get a bit blurry. I like s-vid for that generation.
