Which one was better on the N64?
>>12593429A better question: why did N64 fumble so much with fighting games?
>>12593430N64 bombed in South America
>>12593430Weak 3rd party support and hardware not suitable for 60 fps quick paced games
>>12593430cartdriges limiting the storage and zero interest from the likes of capcom, snk or namco (the later had bad blood with nintendo at the time).
F-Zero X
>>12593430None of the big JP fighting game makers were interested. They wanted FMVs and shit. It would've helped if NST did Tekken 64 instead of Ridge Racer 64.
>>12593429KI Gold, because it was an exclusive, and one of the most rare (pun intended) games to find in mind condition now.MK4 was better on the PSX because it had FMVs like this kino openinghttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qAOwaXJAzAU
>>12593430I had both a n64 and a psx and I would rather play smash with my friends than any of the gazillion identical 2d and 3d fighters on the psx I had.It simply didn't need them. On the other hand I would have enjoyed fighting games more on the psx more if a single one had free for all style 4 players matches but I guess the Playstation couldn't handle such games, even actually cool and innovative fighting games like Evil Zone are still held back by being 2 players only
>>12593430Nintendo fans only buy Nintendo games.
>>12593532You just don't like fighting games. Smash isn't one.
>>12593545>if it's not a generic copy of street/virtua fighter it's not a fighting game!!!!People like you are the reason genres stagnate, it is a fighting game, if you want to play it the boring try hard faggot way you can do 1vs1 no items on some boring flat stage but I would rather have fun.
>>12593550>boringYou've said it yourself, you just find fighting games unappealing in general. If Smash is a fighting game then WWF No Mercy is a fighting game too and Star Fox 64 is a flight sim. Except they're not.
>>12593552I do like fighting games, I like good fighting game.Wrestling games are fighting games though I don't care much about them except for Def Jam which is a fucking good fighting game but all the ones based on WWF? I really don't care about them.Star fox is not a Flight Sim but it is a shooter like Gradius, being in the same genre doesn't mean having to be carbon copies.
>>12593550>People like you are the reason genres stagnateSo why did the Smash series stagnate?
>>12593561>Yeah just completely change how the game plays for no reason What a dumb post, if Nintendo or Sakurai want to make a new fighting game with different gameplay they shouldn't make it a smash sequel, a spin off at most
>>12593532Never played a Smash game, watched some 2026 tournament and I don't get it. Do people consider it a fighting game? Looks like something related to Joust or Balloon fight - funny looking cartoon characters bumping into each other and trying to knock each other into a pit. Where are cool kung fu moves and wrestling grapples?
>>12593573I'm sorry you never had friends
>>12593552>WWF No Mercy is a fighting game tooIt is, retard.
>>12593576Nah, anon, I am serious. We had all those martial arts movies and Monday Night wars growing up. Then it was DBZ. I even can see the appeal of Mortal Kombat despite not enjoying it from a gameplay perspective. I enjoy a good old bloody one on one fight. From what I've seen of Smash gameplay it's kind of a party game like king of a hill, isn't it? So it's not something for a martial arts fan, right?
>>12593594Cool story bro>>12593590Exactly it is, if it's not two dumbasses on a flat drawing it's not a fighting game for the retard
>>12593594>fell for a bait awardNever argue with a smashfag in a fighting games discussion
>>12593590The best WWF game is a fighting game but No Mercy is neither
>>12593610I am genuinely curious
>>12593617Would you argue with a retard who says that tetris versus mode is the best fighting game? Same shit
>>12593634>tetris versus mode is the best fighting gameIt certainly takes more skill than any fighting game
>>12593430Dead or Alive was supposed to be released on the N64. Would've been a cool rivalry with VF and Tekken if it had an exclusivity deal and Nintendo's backing.
>>12593675DoA competed against VF and Tekken directly on Saturn and PS1 and failed
>>12593689That's my point. Dead or Alive was ported to the PSX right around the Tekken 3 release date. Tekken 3 had all the hype at the time. DoA1 was a genuinely good game with bad timing. It had got good reviews but didn't sell well enough. If it was on the N64 it would've got way more hype and sales.
>>12593689>>12593707>barely any unlockables or story. It didn't stand chance against Tekken
>>12593767As a resident /vr/ tekkenfag, I never cared about unlockables or story
>>12593675n64 had so few games they had to write wishlists and articles about other consoles games.
>>12593430Carts don't have enough space for animation, and Nintendo operated in a way that gets them profit and everyone else barely gets to break even.Capcom specifically mentioned in an interview that their profits skyrocketed once they switched away from Nintendo to Sony. I imagine most other fighting game makers were in the same boat.
>>12593430Only fighting games???Nintendo fumbled with everything
>>12593675>bosom algorithmsHow come this term never caught on and jiggle physics did?
>>12593434Because favela monkeys couldn't pirate as easily.
>>12594343Too sophisticated, people are trashy.
>>12593430The N64 has one of the strangest libraries in gaming. No shmups, no rpgs, no fighting games. It's just 3D platformers, racing games, FPS, and sports games.
>>12593429Neither, N64 sucked at traditional fighting games.>>12593430Lack of data space and putrid cache, plus blurry bilinear.
>>12593675>Dead or Alive was supposed to be released on the N64Which britbong mag told you that lie?
>>12594105Ooooooh so it was a fake article?
>>12593675Ngl, would've been cool
>>12594746Look at the bottom of the pagesOfficial UK Nintendo MagazineSame as pic related
>>12597418Based brit shitpost
>>12593429KI Gold wasn't as popular as the first game, but MK4 was unanimously derided. People thought the franchise was dead. In fact NRS would never give up, however they weren't taken seriously from MK4 in '97 all the way up to 2011 when they finally made MK9 more like Street Fighter.
