Why is this game so offensively easy? It's basically impossible to have fun without gimping yourself on purpose because everything deals 1 damage to your character
>>
>>12593513
Dying a thousand times per run isn't fun. Also, the bosses are the right amount of difficult.
>>
The exploration and atmosphere is what makes the game fun.

If you want, there are mods to make the game harder.

Just avoid the "HardType" one specifically, because it's not even fun but just tedious as fuck.
>>
>>12593513
>if I'm not getting a game over every 2 minutes I'm not having fun!!
Yeah no one actually thinks like this lol
>>
>>12593513
>Why is this game so offensively easy?
Because of the RPG design.
>>
>>12593513
Play castlevania 64 big dawg
>>
>>12593513
Inverted castle is sufficiently hard without the crissaegrim, especially since by then you kind of just wanna rush it and get the game over with
>>
>>12593513
not the case at all in the inverted castle
>>
>>12593865
>>12593592
you must have played it when you were 5 if you thought that was hard
>>
Anons have never played one of those tryhard romhacks that up the difficulties and make the game a chore to play. It's a fucking exploration game so you need fast traversal to keep you engaged. I see zero bitching about Super Metroid despite being equally as easy.
>>
>>12593513
I played it for the first time recently. The inverted castle was a little dicey at times, but still manageable if you play cautiously. By my second playthrough, I was tearing through everything. Knowing what you're doing makes a big difference.
>>
>>12593895
>make the game a chore to play. It's a fucking exploration game so you need fast traversal to keep you engaged.
Yeah I started with the harder luck mode but restarted in normal mode because of this.
>>
>>12594006
Luck mode actually gets easier than normal in the long run, it's only at the beginning of the game that is harder
>>
>>12593513
It's an exploration game. You never see anyone complain Zelda, Kirby, Fable, KOTOR, and a plethora of other popular games are easy. This whole ''game must be hard to be fun'' mentally is a Gen Z thing.
>>
>>12594034
>This whole ''game must be hard to be fun'' mentally is a Gen Z thing.
>>
>>12594052
Yes.
>>
>>12593513
The movement and controls are shit, Alucard is very slow and floaty, cannot dodge/block/parry, has no directional attacks, there are no stagger mechanics etc, if the game was actually hard it'd be annoying af to play, you'd be running away then hitting once then running away again.

Just think of it as a turn your brain off looter with cool visuals and audio. It's enjoyable that way.
>>
>>12593895
Super Metroid gets a pass because the exploration part is more involved and intricate (SOTN has like, 1 actual puzzle in the entire game) and Samus ia a much faster character. Alucards default moving speed is shit, the only fast options being bat and wolf dashes. Compare it to shinespark and space jump. SM also features FAR less obligatory backtracking. The route just to get necessary items - jewel, mist form, double jump, spike armor, and gravity boots, would take you round the castle 4-5 times. And then inverted castle forces you to do another merry go to kill all the bosses.
>>
>>12594034
it's not about being hard per se as a proper amount of weight being given to the environment. going through hot zones in the castle should feel a bit perilous and require you to be on your toes.
>>
>>12594085
>dodge
Backdash
>block
Shields
>parry
You can parry nearly every projectile
>stagger
Most common enemies die in a few hits why would that be a thing. Some tough ones, like knights, can be stunlocked
>directional attacks
There's downward thrust and circular swipe, many weapons have special attacks. Special weapons serve as precision attacks (axes fly in an arc, holy water hits below)
>>
Stat growth is randomized, so difficulty varies. If you're unlucky, you'll only get LCK.
>>
>>12593513
>Why is this game so easy when I look up how to get everything on the internet???
It came out in 97 when most people didn't look up every single thing on the internet and just played games unless they got stuck.
>>
>>12593884
>why yes I look up guides/exploits before playing a game for the first time
>>
>>12594034
Agreed with this. If SotN is too easy for you, you’re welcome to go play Hollow Knight or any other indie game Metroidvania. There’s no shortage of them.
>>
>>12595086
The correct term is Willyvania.
>>
>>12593513
This kind of criticism marks you as someone who 'plays' games by watching youtube. Lots of good games don't greatly challenge your problem solving or dexterity.
>>
>>12593513
I think Castlevania is a pretty cool guy. Eh whips the skeletons and doesn't afraid of anything.

/vr/ autists think this, if a game isn't like the original NES castlevania full of retarded level design, bullshit enemy placement, and insta death pits then it's just not fun.

For the life of me I still don't understand how people even like this game. Like, on just he most basic level, not only is the gameplay weak as fuck, with few bosses even being a threat, but the actual level design is just horrendous and even the 'Metroid' elements are just lame. What even make people see this as a classic?
>>
>>12594052
It's because they literally lack the ability to feel positive emotion. They're soul-dead golems. I'm not even kidding. Their childhoods were warped by smartphone scrolling and education systems with all heroes raped out of existence by marxist foids, the part of the brain responsible for actually interpreting art, emotion, joy, etc atrophied and they're just shambling, deterministic husks. Since they can't judge a game on its emotional or entertainment merit, all they can try to do is grasp at some "objective" qualifier like "difficulty". It's incredibly sad, like watching a chimp trying to saw a board holding the saw upside down. They lack even the capacity to understand what they're doing wrong.

And if you think I'm just bullshitting, shitposting, etc, you should see how badly this spills into domains OTHER than video games. There is a zoomer epidemic of not being able to feed themselves right now because "door dash" and restaurants are the only things they understand, and they have panic attacks being told to just make a sandwich. It's getting really, really bad for them, and it's quite possible this generation might die off before older people.

>WAH WAH WAHH!!! I'M NOT HAVING ANY FUN!!! I'M NOT HAVING ANY FUNNN!!! I'M HAVING A BAD TIME!!! EXPLAIN TO ME HOW THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE FUN!!!! I'M PISSING MYSELF IN RAGE!!!
Why are you like this?
>>
>>12595262
Zoomer Derangement Syndrome
>>
>>12595251
Castlevania 1 isn't even remotely unfair at any point lol. I wouldn't even put it in the top 100 hardest NES games.
>>
>>12594034
The difference is that all of the games you mentioned shave interesting level design and scenarios. They may not be particularly hard, but SotN's level design is just empty corridors/towers and enemies that die in one hit. Occasionally you'll run across a tank enemy or a few guys that deal high damage, but then they throw about 6 of them in the row and after the first encounter, you understand how to deal with the remaining ones, so the challenge or uniqueness of the scenario fades.

SotN is just... Not engaging. Probably it's just not fun to move through
>>
>>12595265
Being able to explore is its own reward
>>
>>12593865
What inverted castle? I just beat Dracula and the game ended.
>>
Yet another exposed ps1 "classic". People are finally waking up
>>
>>12595265
You sound like a literal retard. I don't like gacha games or fighting games or extraction shooters and think they are shit but I can understand why people like that. Being unable to understand other people's perspectives is a sign of actual, unironic autism.
>>
>>12595461
Please be bait
>>
>>12593513
The fun is in all the options you have. You have the option to "gimp yourself", or you can plow through the game.

you've literally never talked about video games in your life, you only seethe like the soulless golem you are

you solved the board and all its troubles. and the reason online communication is circular and pointless today

I turned into mistakes and choked Darcula to death. Kinda felt bad for the guy.
>>
>>12593564
Pretty much. For me, it certainly had a mostly inverted difficulty curve, where the beginning parts were the hardest, but due to having better gear and having leveled up a bunch while wandering around finding where to go, the later parts became super easy.

Play as Richter if you want challenge

Tendies are not the ones crying about SotN being "easy" it's jealous primitivania faggots mad superior igavanias raped them out of the series Canon
>>
>use Shield Rod/Crissaegrim as a crutch
>WHY IS THIS GAME TOO EASY WAAHHHH
This game wasnt made to appeal to instant gratification zoomers that can look up everything about a game at their fingertips. Its definitely not as hard as a Classicvania but if youre not power gaming the Inverted Castle is a pretty decent difficulty spike. Modern gamers revisiting retro games cant play them without being surgically attached to a guide though, so I shouldn't be surprised by this retarded opinion that has gained traction
