What are the most manly retro games and why? no fruity jrpgs or touhou, just pure testosterone.I'll start with pic related;Contra III honestly feels like the peak of the series to me. Graphics, music, bosses, stage design, all just hit hard. Konami was basically on a cheat code run back then, just dropping classics nonstop.I know people complain about the overhead stages but they actually help break things up and force you to play different, so its not just run and gun autopilot the whole time. And stage 4, the “secret shmup in disguise” level is legit one of the best Contra stages ever, no debate.Yeah its harder than the earlier games, especially on Hard, but thats kind of the point. True ending locked behind Hard plus the final boss surprise just makes it feel more complete instead of just extra content tacked on.
