Masato Kato is the unsung hero behind CT. Even though his games afterward were disasters, it was his vision that gave CT the SOVL and the unique and streamlined combat system that set it apart from FF and DQ games. He's also responsible for all the cats.

All it took to make Dragon Quest be enjoyed in America was no grinding, crazier story, and being able to see your characters on the field.
