What's the verdict on RE4 HD Project?
Fan fiction. You didn't beat it.
>>12594468Looks better, stop being a nostalgia fag
>>12594468autistically based
>>12594468Still looks as shit as any other HD texture pack for a retro game despite how much effort supposedly went into it.
>>12594468looks worse
>>12594468>upgrades textures>leaves 3d models as is
I wish people would dedicate time turning shit games with potential into games that are actually good instead of messing with classics that are already perfectly great
>>12594468Bloody incredible stuff. Even on a CRT telly at 480i the HD project looks miles better than the original game.>>12594546>leaves 3d models as isThis is demonstrably false as seen in the OP image.
>>12594468Looks okay.Question tho is: Why? Never once have i thought>Man, if only that chair had a more life like texture and those walls were a bit less blurry this game would be SO much better.
>>12594559It's a white people thing; you wouldn't understand.
>>12594552it's the inconsistent application of it that makes it look ass. Like, yeah, the chair now has a 1/2" step up to the cushion, but the stonework reveals are still flat as fuck
>>12594606>Why angular objects are still angularlmao regard
>>12594468Gives me Max Payne 2 vibes for whatever reason.
>>12594468I don't think they are interpreting the pattern on the chair correctly.
>>12594468Genuinely amazing effort, really cool project.
>>12594670>I don't think they are interpreting the pattern on the chair correctly. How many mistakes were made in re4hd?
>>12594468Did they purposely make the Original look worse? Or was it always that shitty looking. What is with those textures, they look so weird.
me personally I find the 6th gen novelty more interesting than super sharp high res textures but I recognize that's my own eccentricity.
>>12594691re4 always looked like that
>>12594564Actual white people have imagination and can deal with abstraction. Fuck you, faker.
>>12594697abstract art is jewish slop
>>12594694Are the underlying textures themselves bad, or is the rendering pipeline fucked up somehow?
>>12594468It's the only good HD texture pack ever made, which makes it that much more incredible.
>>12594468Capcom took an L over RE4 when the codebase leaked and showed they stole assets from a designer book/CD from the 90s. They didn't even rename the images. The case was settled out of court.
>>12594761what do you mean by assets? texture photos?
>>12594761>they stole assets from a designer book/CD from the 90s.Wasn't this like every game during that era?
>>12594764Yeah
>>12594753Resident Evil 4's textures were already based on real photos, so just making them higher quality doesn't destroy the art design. Putting realistic textures in something like a fucking Zelda game is another thing entirely. There are also other texture packs which work for the same reason, like the one for The Witcher 3 which was so good that CD Projekt paid the guy who made it so they could use it in the official remaster.
It is some outstanding stuff in many areas.
>>12594724>reading is jewish slop
>>12594468I don't know why all companies can't remaster their games with the same level of passion. If they did I doubt there would be so much disdain for remasters with anons today. The effort put into HD Project should be applauded and this should even be the official HD remaster for RE4 going forward.
>>12596924The project took like 10 years and they even tracked down the actual churches and other buildings that the devs took photos of and went there to take new high quality pics, you can't expect to see that happen with any other remaster (official or fan-made)
>>12596981Oh so then the fans here of RE4 are far better than the developers themselves? Yeah I knew that.
>>12596986I was replying to this bit>I don't know why all companies can't remaster their games with the same level of passionNow you know. It's simply not feasible, and wouldn't make any money.
To be fair it took 10 years because for 90% of it the project was just some autistic spaniard who wanted to make the game look better. A team at a funded studio would be able to do it faster and with some luck get access to the archives from the game to find where a lot of the reference material was sourced.
>>12596986MANY such cases. Fan works generally blow corporate labor out of the water. There is a precisely 0% chance that Capcom would ever, ever bother to do something like track down the original objects used to generate the textures. Only fans are so dedicated.
>>12594779>>12596924RE4 HD tidbits>When the game was ported to PS2, some textures were lost because a very low-resolution texture pack was used. Later, the Wii version mistakenly used the low-resolution inventory pack from the PS2 version>RE4 GC/Wii audio is Dolby Pro Logic II. RE4 Xbox 360 and UHD audio is presented in Mono>resident evil 4 HD project began as a Wii Edition texture replacement mod for Dolphin before the UHD port was announced in 2014>RE4 GC was originally coded for 30FPS, with almost no code to adjust things for higher framerates. To add 60FPS for UHD version QLOC had hijacked the games "gameSpeed" value, setting it to "gameSpeed = 30 / framerate".>eg. at 60FPS the gameSpeed would be set to 0.5x, but since we're running game at double the framerate, that'd allow things to look normal speed. Sadly not everything in the game made use of this speed variable, in the original GC release only a tiny amount of code ever checked it.>Resident Evil 4 UHD PC 60fps broke timers for the first village fight (supposed to last 6:30/7:30 depending on route taken / enemies killed on GC)>Resident Evil 4 HD Project removes terrible looking PS2 version assets from Separate Ways>WEAPONS and other item MODELS: The models used for all post-Gamecube versions have less polygons than the original Gamecube version. It seems they kept (perhaps by accident?) the low-poly versions from the PS2 port of the game. I restored and even improved all of these models. There is a limitation with these models that crashes the game if the file size of certain files are larger than the original, but I found that there is some dispensable data that can be removed from the .bin files (the 3D models), and even entire .bin files that are unused in-game>emoose fixed RE4 UHD to run at 120 fpshttps://www.nexusmods.com/residentevil4/mods/709>Albert landed a job in Nightdive studios

>>12597049>emoose fixed RE4 UHD to run at 120 fps
>>12597056Supposedly it has a ton of issues because RE4 was coded for 30FPS- The first rock QTE lifts you off the ground after you complete it (it also leaves the rock far behind).- The item dropped by dead enemies floats if the enemy's body dies in the air.- The animation of the well cover with rotten water rising/falling is sped up (I'm specifically referring to the one on the way to Mendez house but I think the farm's one has the same issue).- The animation of the entrance puzzle to Bítores Méndez's house is sped up.- Chickens move somehow faster? Needs confirmation.- Leon vanishes and reappears in the inventory faster when equipping another weapon.- Del Lago: the harpoon sight is distorts itself when moving it.- The save file name is not replaced after overwriting, and the corresponding save game sound does not play.- Some of the interactive texts are sped up (haven't checked everyone of them but here are some: church puzzle, initial text of the wagon level, initial island area reflector, security door puzzle in the first regenerator level).- Lightning illumination is sped up in the house with a cave level which connects the village and the church.- The sound of the big door opening in the cabin level (where you shoot Ganados with Luis) stops abruptly.- The scythe can get stuck. The floor a few moments before vanishing- Knights dying animation is faster- The tremor effect on the Chalice door lasts longer than expected- The clock tower lever is activated faster- Doors in the two Garradores level close faster- Torch illumination is faster in the trap room on the train car level and in the train car room- The first elevator chamber in the Salazar statue chapter moves in a higher height than Leon- Some enemies may spawn with the parasite already exposed
>>12597049>Albert landed a job in Nightdive studiosGood for him this is well deserved.
>>12597073Is that from the 2026 version of the fix?
fukken sweet. I did try 240fps but it wouldn't hold consistently so dropped it to 120fps for the lock.
>>12597049Resident Evil (2002) HD REMASTER>some lighting and shadows are absent due to Capcom loosing the source code of the pre rendered backgrounds>black levels are crushed to an absurd degree in some sections. Not to mention some audio/music issue I remember hearing abouthttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRIIad9ji3w>Capcom did not have the source files anymore>They even released a promo video back during REmakes release with a camera going through the 3D model for the mansion. These models are forever lost...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l80nGSuHQNYResident Evil Zero HD REMASTER>GameCube has better shadows>shadows missing from the train car >broken glass missing from the train carhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1_rTdPjBQ4>Capcom still had access to the original backgrounds and FMVs, and those were created at a high resolution. They actually had to scale the images down when they developed the game for the GameCube>Tose still had all the raw source files for the backgroundshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaLfiu1XP7M>The properties of each file shows that most of the backgrounds (particularly on the train sequence) are stored at an unusual resolution of 1588x1392 - while later spots decode at 1536x1344. Essentially, both values are lower than the 1920x1080 on the horizontal axis - for those playing in 4:3, this means you'll be getting a near 1:1 pixel match on the horizontal scale (with the side portions of the screen boxed out, and the active pixels matching the output resolution)>Resident Evil Zero HD on PC runs at two different frame-rates then - the user-definable value set in the options, plus the hard-locked 30fps of the base background files. In the end, having the game animate at two separate rates doesn't distract (the backgrounds are mostly static, after all) but it is a curious hold-over from a different era in game design>Rebecca Chambers was modeled after Ayumi Hamasaki
>>12597049>emoose fixed RE4 UHD to run at 120 fpsIt still has some bugs but it's waaaaay more playable than the old experimental version and it's nice to see emoose return to RE4. Him and the DDrawCompat guy are my vidya programmer wizard heroes.
>>12596924Companies see remasters as quick, easy money. Not putting any real time or effort in is the entire point.
>>12597039at the end of the day, who's paying the hourly rates of the hundreds of man-hours spend on things most paying customers won't appreciate?it's easy to write it off as no caring, but capcom is still a company that needs to make money to keep existing and making new games, so a balance needs to be struck.not to excuse lazy/bad ports, i don't know much about this RE4 stuff but i have seen terrible ports which shouldn't have bothered existing
>waaah I need everything 4k 240 fpsglad Im not retarded
>>12597568to be fair lcd's look like ass at lower framerates
>>12594564Maybe they should have sex instead of creating hd shit no one cares about which ruins the look of the game?
>>12597568based
>>12594764>>12594772Notable game devs would have paid for a royalty free license to use asset libraries, which is why you can find a lot of the same sound effects and textures in many different games from that era (as well as stock riffs and soundbytes in some music).Capcom did not do that for these assets, and as far as I know they were not actually available as licensable assets in that sense, they just acquired them and used them.
>>12594764No. Usually they paid for the license to use the art
>>12596981took 10 years cause its only 2 dudes with no budget. this amount of work would take less 2 years with a proper passionate team and a budget
